  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2018 T-Handle Shifter Swap

Haha, that's gotta be a joke right. Would look ridiculous.

Absolutely! Highlight "Spoilert Alert" and keep highlighting to the right to reveal some hidden text :)

Bad news. Shifter handle swap is a no-go. There’s a V shaped rivet on the rod that the original shifter goes in. It faces the dashboard since the shifter button you press to switch gears facing the front. The t- shape handle button faces the drivers seat, and they couldn’t do anything to alter the rod. No soup for you, come back with G80 if you want a t-handle!

I was able to swap mine at the dealer. They even gave me money for the old one. Before discount, it was $55500. Drives like new with it.

Which dealer if you don't mind me asking? I can call them and speak with one of their techs to see how they were able to do it :-)

Pretty sure he bought a new G80...Pics please?

Petty sure you are right. He was just being facetious.

Maybe, but I did leave the dealer with a different shift knob (and more) that way. Took about 3 hours.

Haha I know, so was I!

On a separate note I was looking at G90’s and found inventory to be lacking, especially for Pre-owned AWD variants. I’m curious to know how many units are made since AWD and v8 AWD models are scarce

LOL. That is one way to perform a shifter swap.:)

Hell, probably the only way to get a 2018 T-handle shifter.

I looked up the parts and the 2018 T-shifter assemblies(electronic and manual) seems too dissimilar to the 2015-2017 models for a direct swap.

I know this is reviving a dead thread, but I'm going to attempt this in a slightly different way.

Them telling you there's a river that makes it not fit doesn't make sense when looking at part diagrams, because the 2015 base and the 2018 base use the same exact lever assembly, rod assembly, and bracket assembly, with the only part difference being 46720 for the shift knob on 2015 and 46720E for the shift knob on 2018.

So I'm pulling an entire shifter, boot, and lower mechanism from a wrecked G80 to see if I can spot any differences at all.

You are correct. The 2015 and 2018 does share the same base shift lever part number, therefore we older 2015-2016 Genesis owners can probably swap to a base T-handle style shifter, not the top-end electronic T-handle shifter.

Exactly.

However, the problem I ran into is this - the t shifter itself, labeled 46720E, has 4 sub-categorized part numbers, all of which (including the one the original creator of this thread tried to use) are labeled as being only for the SBW (shift by wire) version. There legitimately is no part number that I can find for the base model T bar shifter shown in that diagram. I searched for hours and hours.

So that leaves the only option being to pull one from a vehicle.

The part numbers are right here. I assume the cheaper $68 part number is the base T-shifter bar.

Nope. Those are for the SBW version only. And the cheapest one is not the base version, it's actually just the cap of the shifter.

As you can see here, the fit note for all 4 is for the SBW version, not the base version.

The base version legitimately has no part number to be found anywhere.

No offense , but you are not correct about the part numbers and what they represent. The part numbers listed are the numbers after 46720- listed above in your post. The listing is for the shift knob or handle, not just the cap. Who told you that the shift trim cap is separate item in the part listing? The knob assembly is a complete unit.

I purchased a new old style round shift knob that was a complete unit with the part number described for the 2015 models like in my previous post.

Bud, you might want to do some basic research before trying to tell me I'm wrong. As I said, I was looking into this for HOURS.

The 2 part numbers with 1550 in it is JUST the cap, as you can see here in this pic and in literally any Hyundai parts website where it shows that it is just the cap.Screenshot_20210920-094313.webp

The 2 part numbers with 1050 are the full shift knob, but both of them are for the SBW version only.

And here is the other 1550 part number, also just the cap.
