If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Suspension Issue - A new take

I changed to the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season. My reason was safety. No change in the ride. Tires are not the answer. Wish I could put the Audi A6 suspension on the Genesis.

To be fair, you put another high performance Good Year tire on it - I wouldn't expect that to have an impact on ride, TBH.

I would hope that going to a touring tire would make a difference. I understand many prefer the performance characteristics. Personally, I care primarily about ride comfort and noise.

Agreed. Even the most quiet/smooth riding Ultra High Performance tire is going to ride a bit worse than your average Grand Touring tire from my experience. This is mainly due to the fact that they have stiffer sidewalls. And the Goodyear Eagle F1s aren't even rated that high, so I'm not sure why anyone would expect these tire to IMPROVE the ride quality. In fact, in Tire Rack's testing they scored this tire last in terms of ride comfort out of the 4 UHP All-Season tires they tested: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/chartDisplay.jsp?ttid=115

I'm not saying that switching the tires is going to completely fix the suspension issues some owners are experiencing, only that tires CAN help. As I've said multiple times before, my car rides noticeably better over rough pavement on my snow tires. I can't wait for next Spring to ditch the OEM Dunlops and give the Bridgestone Turanza Serenitys a try.

Bear, just out of curiosity, what make you go w/ the F1s?

Readers of this thread will not want to miss the discussions going on over in the Suspension and Brake Forum. The reports of Hyundai making important changes in the 2010 sedan suspension re to shocks, A arms, tires and alignment are becoming more authoritive. With any luck these changes may be retrofitable to the early 2009s. Any chance that Hyundai would offer a no charge retrofit to 2009 cars is pretty slim, given the magnitude of this as yet unseen rejiggered front end. But we can dream.

Keep on keeping on,

Dick

does anyone know what tires the BMW's or MB's ship with? Since they are supposedly the competition then I would like to compare those rides with the Genesis.

I know the BMWs I've looked at and driven have had Bridgestones. I drove an M that had the higher end Dunlop run-flats. I had a Mercedes E class with Continentals, but I believe they're offered with Pirellis and Michelins as well.

The Lexus had Michelins.

Not sure about the BMW and Benz, my Audi A6 come with Michelin Pilot SP.

My BMW 528i came w/ Continentals IIRC and my Lexus GS430 came w/ craptastic Dunlop run-flat tires. If you guys are disappointed in the ride of your $40k Hyundai, try spending $60k on a car only to find out a $20k Camry has a more forgiving and controlled ride over expansion joints.

Bridgestone Turanza serenity in 17 inch looks like the best I can find, As mentioned a 60 series tire is available in 17 but I did not like what tire rack said about any of them.

Goodyear Assurance Comfortreds and TripleTreds also come in 215/60-17 H rated.

Quick FYI, I've found that the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity series are a quiet riding tire, but in general Bridgestones have a fimer ride which obviously is not wanted in this situation. I had them on my Avalon.
Stay away from the Turanza EL400. This is a harder riding, not so quiet tire, despite Bridgestone's marketing hype to the contrary.

Do you have a suggestion for a softer ride than the serenity series? in a 17 inch 55 or 60 series?

Odd, all the reviews seem to indicate the serenity is a softer riding, quieter tire. I was going to go with the Michelin, but surprisingly, that didn't get nearly as good of reviews as the serenity.

That may be true in general, but the Serenity tires in question have the highest rating for ride comfort by consumers out of all the Grand Touring tires on Tire Rack's website. Based on this, I think it's fairly safe to assume that the Serentys are not a firm-riding tire.

Please don't misunderstand. The Serenity is not a "hard" riding tire - just firmer than, for example Conti's or Michelin MXs. I just think that firmer with the Genesis is not the way to go. In general, I do like Bridgestone tires and have had good experiences with them. As I said I had them on my old Avalon and Camry before that. They ran very quietly and smoothly but the ride was definitely firmer, which wasn't a bad thing because the Avalon was very soft to begin with.
I'm planning on installing 215/60-17 H rated GoodYear Assurance Comfortreds on my Genesis. The Comfortred is an EXTREMELY quiet and soft-riding tire. It turned our hard-riding Altima 3.5 into a real smoothie. There may be some people who don't like this, but I am looking for the smoothest, quietest ride in the Genesis, not for Corvette handling and scrape your butt "road feel".
In my experience, GoodYear have always stood behind their products and I currently have them on our Altima and Honda Pilot.
Another "smooth and quiet" possibility is the Toyo Versado, but I have no personal experience with them.

Did you have the Turanza Serenitys or some other Bridgestone tire?

I've had the Turanza LS series in T, H and V ratings on various cars over the last few years. I understand the LS has been renamed "Serenity". A GoodYear dealer told me this when I inquired about new LS's a while back, but you may want to confirm this in case the info I received is not correct.
Again, the LS was a very good tire and I'm not trying to put anyone off - just offering a word of caution, considering that the subject matter is trying to resolve a firm ride. The worst thing is to spend the $$$$$ on new tires only to be disappointed.
I had the Bridgestone EL400 which is NO COMPARISON to the LS series. They are noisy and very firm as are the Potenza series, which is more of a performance tire. In my opinion, the LS was a far superior tire.
Please also consider that my views are subjective. Your experience may be different.
I just wish Hyundai would come to our rescue, instead of us having to make expensive trial by error changes.

The Turanza EL400 has to be one of the worst tires ever created! As said earlier, they ride hard, are very noisy, and wore out past the wear indicators in 27K despite being diligent about tire pressure (35PSI) and rotations at 5K. Wet traction was not so great either. This was on my '06 Toyota Avalon.

Thank for the insight. Just like you, I'm going for smooth and quiet as well. If I wanted Corvette handling, I'd get a Corvette (been there, done that, actually.)

I've been hearing great things about Toyo lately. I've had no experience with them, but am curious how they'd do on the Genny.

Genesis 380:

I appreciate your feedback, but I'm going to have to give the Serenitys a try. The HUGE amount of positive reviews and solid Tire Rack test results are just too much to overlook.

As well as positive reviews here: http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebrand=Bridgestone&tiremodel=Turanza+Serenity

Not to mention this review from the wheels.ca (midsection of the page): http://www.wheels.ca/article/31155

Quote: "So to cut to the chase: the Serenity is the quietest, smoothest W-rated tire I have ever experienced. It floats down the road like a hovercraft, but still has excellent turn-in response to quick steering inputs."

Please keep us updated! I hope it works out.
I ordered the Assurance Comfortreds in 215/60-17 today. Hopefully both of us will find some improvement.
