  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

Not exactly a review, but here's an article talking about some of the financial woes at Hyundai and their potential impact.

Terms of Service Violation

Not just Hyundai, but every car maker will be affected. If the price of cars jumps by thousands of dollars, sales will go down. Companies that thought the tariffs were good are now saying otherwise. BMW exports more cars from the USA that it imports and if retaliatory tariffs kick in, layoffs at the SC plant will be coming.

I bought a new Genesis last October so I'm not in the market. I can say for sure though, if the price was $5000 more for the same car I would not have bought it.

Yeah even more reason for Genesis (Hyundai) to release the G70... get it out there and get people buying them before the tariff kicks in and raises the price substantially. If they can get the price at $51k people will buy the hell out of it; if the price has to rise to $56k because of the tariffs, people will be less inclined ...

Fortunately for us here on this forum, current G70s are already here and it looks like we will buying them before the tariff would kick in anyways so this wouldn't really affect any of us.

However, this would put additional stress on the whole brand of Genesis as they are struggling to break into a competitive market. Kinda puts their effectiveness and future in jeopardy....

If all costs go up for every car maker then Genesis will still be cheaper as it is now

Ha...very good point. To add...Trump will probably go after the EU harder...so the German cars will probably get more of a hike than S.Korean cars.

Hahaha good points... I guess the price hike would be across the board!! Let's hope he goes after those krautheads harder than S. Korea! Maybe with a price increase, more people will go for the 2.0T, making the 3.0T that much more exclusive for us!

Yeah if car prices go up i may just hang on to this G70 longer than i intended,

As a German I feel triggered and think that is a hate crime. Who can I sue?

Speaking for Germans everywhere, we prefer just being called Krauts vs krautheads. After all, it is ze whole body that is a Kraut and not just ze head.

:p:p:p:p

HAHA fine I rescind my comment... let me change what I said to "let's hope he goes after [that 'fine German Engineering'] harder than S. Korea" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

If car tariffs are implemented, they definitely will be across the board and affect both EU and South Korea. The steel tariffs had multiple options for implementation, like with certain types of steel only or revolving around mostly China, but the administration chose the most straightforward and most severe option. Any exceptions were only for a very short temporary time period.

Right now, I would say Genesis is in a relatively favorable position because the G70 is manufactured in Korea. With only steel tariffs in place, cars manufactured in America are at a price disadvantage for raw materials. Unless Hyundai as a whole distributes their domestic steel costs across all products including Genesis, we should be fine until car tariffs. With the recent EU trade negotiators visit, hopefully car tariffs will be on hold until the G70 releases.

I feel as though I should mention that all of my relatives whether they are here in Canada or still back in Stuttgart fully blame me for going from a German sedan to a Korean one as the cause of Germany losing to South Korean and being out of the World Cup so early lol

Back on topic, I hope all of these tariffs gets sorted out soon as they impact so many industries indirectly and are hurting so many companies. I am curious what these governments are going to do with all the money they collect in tariffs as it is really all of us that end up paying for it.

Didn't some sort of deal get worked out with Europe that limits the tarriffs substantially? It may not be a done deal yet (and may never be, of course) but I think it's one of the things people were talking about after Trump met with the head of the EU. If the EU gets a deal and Asia gets tariffs, that would be especially bad for Korea. These days, anything could happen and what "makes sense" isn't of much use in trying to make predictions.

Korea was going to allow more US cars into their country. From what I read, they would be ok importing here, but that changes frequently it seems. No idea what the EU terms are today.

Good points... I also would like a 50-70 and or maybe like a 30-50 to become more mainstream... it is perfectly OK for car manufacturers to brag about their 0-60 times, but in terms of practicality: you are correct in that more everyday driving conditions acceleration metrics would be MUCH better to judge how a car will affect your daily life

These are essentially your "passing power" metrics which are most important for highway driving and what most people look for in a good performance daily driver

Excellent points by kmooney4 regarding what’s most relevant to the everyday driver. What I need is to be able to get on the freeway or get by the big truck blocking my lane, quickly and safely.

Exactly. As much as a jaw-dropping 0-60 time is to have fun and impress friends, I would much rather have stellar on-ramp acceleration or be able to pass without worrying about being run down from behind in the left lane.... to me, with a long commute down I-95 in very mild traffic, passing power and high speed acceleration run king.

I agree. The 50-80km/h on the 3.3T is ridiculous. The gearing of this car is spot on!

Which, from what I've heard, is part of the reason it gets awful gas mileage?
