  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

I came from a 2.0T and there was a LOT of turbo lag ... it was manual so a little easier to manage, but still was noticeable. Just came back from a couple hundred km road-trip this week, with an opportunity to drive some windy country roads, I can can absolutely say the 3.3T has no noticeable lag at all - no matter the speed, there is a huge amount of power ready to go. At one point on the highway I thought I was doing a gentle pass and when I looked down at the speedometer I realized I was getting into a speed zone I had REALLY not intended to be in!!

Going faster than you want...a nice problem to have. Thank you for the reply and allowing us to enjoy your G70 remotely .

I am VERY disappointed.
The 157 lb. heavier, regular fueled Stinger was:
  • 0.3s faster to 60
  • 1.1s faster to 100
  • 4.3s faster to 140
  • 0.2s faster 5-60
  • 0.4s faster (trapping a whopping 5 mph greater) in the 1/4 mile
  • With worse tires, pads and more weight (this is the upgraded special edition model, the standard sport model should have worse performance) the Stinger stopped from 70 mph in 8 feet less.
Is that enough to change your car buying decision? In your everyday normal driving, how often do you get to drive at 140? Does that longer 0-60 time make you late for work? A good 5-60 time is important for passing, but if 0.2s makes a difference you probably should not be passing anyway.

Sure, it fun driving a fast car but those differences are really tiny unless you are heading for the drag strip. I've had a couple of cars over the years that were fun to drive for various reasons and the 0-60 times were in the teens.

It does. All car purchase decisions are based on multiple factors that people do not prioritize in the same way. If your comments ring true with anyone here then there is no reason for them to purchase the 3.3T model.

For me personally, its about compromises. If I am going to get worst in class fuel economy I better get something back in return. That "something" in this case was performance (and hopefully price). But to end up with a product slower than its fatter corporate cousin with the same drivetrain is not the "something" I was looking for.

This car is just as fast as my E92 dual-clutch M3...which is 4.4 to 60 mph.

Sick fast.

Will post details and thoughts on my laptop...easier.

Btw...in Sport...the lumber support turns in opposite to a corner. Wow.

There is always compromise and choosing the 3.3 is one of them. If you look at the G80 Ultimate you have a choice of engines with minor compromise on features. My point is, does a 0.2s difference disappoint you to the point that you'd choose a BMW or something that has that difference.?

I chose the 3.8 over spending $4000 for the 5.0. Maybe in my 20s the choice would have been different but I still get the performance needed for fun driving. My guess is you'd like the 5,0 and that is fine. In real life though. 0.2s is not very much. Be thoughtful and careful when you weigh in each factor of your decision. Don't let that put you into a car that in other aspects comes in second or third.

I am not in my 20's. But I have tracked most of my cars (strip and roadcourse). So my life experiences are going lead me down a different path. Even if I don't track the G70, what I expect out my car is likely very different than what you expect out of yours.

Here is a list of the G70 3.3T Sport's competitors:
S4
340i
Q50 RS400
C43
XE S

They are all quicker/faster AND get better fuel economy. Not a good place for Genesis to find itself on the compact sport sedan list.

As for my choice I could see myself going a little slower for improved fuel economy.

Lastly, you might want to jump on the JB4 thread to make note that there are other folks like myself who were researching making the G70 even faster before we actually knew how fast it was. So to each their own.

One test, one car, one data point. Meaningless. Acceleration times can vary wildly based on any number of factors. Seat-of-the-pants, the media I've spoken to all feel G70 is as fast or faster than its contemporaries in the segment, including the RS400. Time and more testing will tell.

I agree! Even though C&D is known for the best numbers, it doesn't mean anything to me until we get multiple reports AFTER the car's release that show the G70 slower than the Stinger. Just using logic, there is no reason for it to be slower than the Stinger. I'd be happy if it were on par with the Stinger, ecstatic if it were faster than the Stinger, and surprised if for some reason it turns out slower, really surprised!

Either way, it won't sway my decision that this is the best car for my $ unless I just don't like how it drives or feels.

I agree that we need more data to reach any firm conclusion. But I'm not sure tha we only have one data point. Typically, outfits like C&D or R&T do multiple runs and then report the average. Still, there are a bunch of nonrandom factors like weather conditions and type of fuel used that can impact the results collectively. But if the testing conditions are the same as Car & Driver consistently uses, then that averaged data point is in some sense comparable to their test of other cars and has more credulity than the informal numbers we've seen up until now. But still, I want to see multiple tests from multiple sources before I reach any firm conclusions.

I forgot to mention that launch control was not functioning when C&D produced their Stinger GT numbers.

Historically, C&D has produced faster times than most other publications. As a result, the times I have viewed them as outliers was because everyone else's numbers were slower, but clustered together. Still, I wouldn't just dismiss their data out of hand.

The numbers MT got for the RWD Stinger GT match pretty closely to what C&D got for the G70 (0-60 in 4.8 / 1/4 mile in 13.3 @ 106.9). Based on these observations, we may be more likely to find that the C&D test for the Stinger GT was the outlier. Most other tests for the Stinger GT are not quite that fast. So if the G70 matches these other tests for the Stinger GT, we are still back to the bottom vs. the competition for the G70.

Hyundai/Genesis stated 4.5s. They had to have tested their own cars. So maybe they will reach out to C&D.

I think this belongs to this thread.

As a potential buyer, I am just a tad disappointed with the trap speed but seeing how they tested it in California, 91 was likely used. We won't know the correction factor until they upload the test sheet on their website. Article also states they expected it to be faster than the Stinger but this particular example wasn't.

Thank you again for the data. I’m thinking of starting new thread with print reviews. What do you think?

Stopped by Port of Portland today, but, as expected, didn't really get much in the way of pictures or confirmation of the G70 being there. Initially I was assuming that, *maybe*, there was a small chance the sedans all covered in white could be the G70, but upon closer inspection I believe they're probably Sonata's. Along with those I saw a number of Konas, and some other white covered SUV's.

Anyway, on the way back out of the port area I noticed a section that contained a few G80's and G90's - but I didn't see a huge number of other covered/uncovered cars there, also, the highway was a little too busy for me to pull off to the side of the road and walk up to the fence as I had my toddler with me, therefore, no pics of this part. But, again, I didn't see anything in that area that could possibly be G70's.

Here you go. Kinda useless pics, as expected, but it was still fun and something to do on my day off.

Good to see that the cars look well protected for longer term storage (even if they're not G70's)! Still I'll be looking for a more recent build date on any car that I get just because I don't mind waiting a bit longer and getting a better deal. It sure will be interesting to see what kind of profit margin the dealers will be able to squeeze out of the first buyers!

Thanks for taking the time on your day off to have a little fun with this!

I'm in the exact same boat. I don't mind waiting at all, I'm in no rush.

No problem!

I just spent the morning looking at BMW 340ix's / 440 (its almost the same) and the CLA 45 AMG (holy crap it's fast, but doesn't feel as nice as the others and is cramped).

I'd love to hang in there for the genesis, and if they have a price and a date before I purchase I'll wait. But if I find a good deal in the mean time I'm leaning elsewhere. I can always buy a used one from you guys down the road :)

When the Alfa Romeo Giulia came out they were practically giving the leases away to try and gain brand awareness as well as all the initial issues with some of the electronics. I was very close to pulling the trigger but the 4 was not enough HP and the 6 was too expensive. Perhaps I am optimistic but I would not be surprised if Genesis came out limiting dealers from mark up. Mark up over sticker will make me either shop around more or hold off.

I second the comment on how well the cars appear to be protected from the elements. The pictures make me feel a bit better even though they are not G70s.

I doubt Genesis is going to offer good lease deals on the G70 since the Stinger doesn’t. Hyundai/Kia seems to like significantly higher MF on their leases than the competition. Stinger leases are best if you’re doing a lease buyout because they ramp up the MF every time they increase the discount.
