If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

^ oh. I got that you meant that Kevin Smith's car is the 1 and only on the Sept list. I was saying that his car is probably not part of that list.

That is exactly what I was saying. You posted a long time ago that Kevin bought the car that was used in the photo shoots. Since there were no dealers available nationwide until October that would mean that one sale in September was not done in a dealership. Kevin would have the connection to buy it without a dealership. ;)

^ you know...I should ping him and ask him how the car is. He would be the best person to ask regarding long-term issues, reliability, etc. On second thought...I really don't give a f$%k...LOL.

Hi all, my lease is coming up on my audi A4 and I am lthinking of getting Kia Stinger V6, but the G70 3.3T has me intrigued. Has anyone owned or driven both of these cars on more than a test drive that could comment on which they like more and why?

Awesome, hot off the press, thanks! I agree with the author the G70 felt lighter and the smaller size is noticeable. The Stinger felt nose heavy at times. I've read a few reviewers complaining about the G70s exhaust note but I thought it was decent. Does genesis do loaners to prospective buyers? I might try to get a loaner for a week and feel it out as a daily driver.

Never have heard of a US dealer doing extended test drives. In fact we have heard of a number of dealers only allowing short test drives in the lot or a few blocks around the dealership. Luckily those are the exceptions rather than the rule.

First off, I must give a thanks to everyone in this forum for all the information you have provided, but in particular a HUGE THANKS to BEEFER and R_Spec, without whose help there is no way I would currently have this car. I bow to you in respect and thanks. 😎

Trying to keep this as quick as possible but still providing useful details, here's how it went:

-- Beefer suggested getting in touch with Genesis corporate. I did, and two people there got back to me, eventually telling me that the exact model I wanted (2.0, RWD, elite trim, Adriatic Blue, Black interior) would be at two dealers in Southern California in May. That was AWESOME, because one dealer I talked to a couple of weeks earlier told me this configuration was not being manufactured by Genesis, so didn't I want to come buy one off their lot? Sure, yeah, uh huh.

-- Once Genesis corporate confirmed to me that this car sure is being made, and would be arriving soon, I then followed the great advice of many in here and contacted R_Spec, who hooked me up with a Hyundai Circle pricing certificate. That was doubly AWESOME because before even saying one word to a dealer who actually had the car I had a perfectly good pre-negotiated price I was happy with. That meant that even though I had a very specific car in mind (which is terrible for your negotiating position; always better to be flexible), I had a solid price I was happy to pay without haggling.

-- Genesis corporate told me this car would not arrive until May, but suddenly on Monday, April the 22nd it showed up in online inventory. OMG someone might buy it! I started getting antsy. Talked to a salesman on the phone, said I had already test driven the car elsewhere (but that was a 3.3T) and most likely wanted it. Mentioned I had a Hyundai Circle certificate. Okay, said the salesman.

-- Next day went to Carmax and had them price my 2016 Mercedes GLC300: $26k. Not too bad. Kelly blue book online said $27k or $27.5 but I assume that these internet things overestimate a bit. Within 5% of the online estimate was okay with me.

-- Drive down to the dealer in Huntington Beach, CA, an hour south of LA where I live, today, Wednesday. Test drive is fine. Salesperson is friendly and decent guy. I'm serious, let's talk about it.

-- I must back up and say that when I saw this car on the Genesis online inventory listing I had some worry. Why? Because unlike most G70s I've checked out online, the window sticker showed a bunch of the useless stuff dealers add to cars to bamboozle customers out of their money. This one had FOUR of them: first aid kit, mud guards (first I'd seen of those - $70!), rear bumper "appliqué" (nothing like a little French to make you part with your money), and wheel locks. I know dealers do this stuff, but I had yet to see a G70 with that much dumb stuff piled on. Still, all of that added up only to $270; enough that it bugged me; not enough to stop me from wanting the car.

Still the point is, I was somewhat primed for what was to come.

-- Salesman, Bobby, says: how much do you want for your Mercedes? Smart negotiating! Always make the other party bid first. I should have said "How much will you pay?" but I hemmed and hawed and decided I was comfortable with what Carmax offered. So I say: $26k will work.

I say: How about the price on the G70? Do you know about Hyundai Circle pricing?

No, he says, I don't know that. (Stupid of me not to confirm that very clearly on the phone two days earlier.)

I say: Hyundai corporate is right next door in Irvine, you must get this all the time.

He says: Anyway, the price is decided by the sales manager.

I say: Okay, let me email him the Circle pricing certificate. Bobby gives me the manager's email. Off the email goes.

Bobby says: okay, let me talk to him, I'll be back. [If you're old enough, and have bought enough cars in your life, you know this gambit. Leave you alone to feel lonely and vulnerable while they "discuss" the price.]

-- Bobby comes back with a term sheet.
MSRP is $41K
Plus, he says, usually there is a "new model charge" on this car. You can see it on the other cars on the lot. But we're going to give you a break and not charge you that. (Oh, thanks.)
Plus $1500 for Lojack (actually a variant of Lojack called "SWAT"... never heard of it) paint protection and door ding protection.
$25k is the offer for my old car.

I say: "Seriously?". And I'm thinking, the first time I bought a car in 1987 (Acura Integra RS!) I had to fight off the undercoating and the pinstriping. 32 years later and the car industry is EXACTLY the same? Yep, sure is.

I take the piece of paper, strike through the $1500 of doodads, say I don't want it. Say that unless they give me $26k for my car, of course I'm going to take it to Carmax. "I want you guys to make a profit, but let's be reasonable."
Plus I want to know about Hyundai Circle pricing. If you can't give me that, I need to head back to LA before traffic gets awful.

Now things get serious. When the sales manager comes over himself, you know you are really dealing.

Over comes Arash the sales manager with a new term sheet.
Things are looking up.
Hyundai Circle pricing is okay. That's big! That knocks the price of the car from $41k MSRP to $38k.
$26k for my car is okay.
But I really need $1500 for the doodads, Arash says.

I say: I just don't want to pay for it. I don't need it.
Then I say, and how about the conquer incentive? I read that I can get that. $1000 off.

Arash says: You can't get the conquer incentive with Hyundai Circle.

I say: Really? I read that you can. Let me check. I start checking Genesisowners forum on my phone.

Arash goes off, comes back with another term sheet.
Now it's $400 for the doodads.

I think about it. I just think... They're making plenty of money on my old car. This G70 already has $270 of useless stuff on it. I start to think: I'm going to wind up buying a Camry. I can't countenance this stuff from car dealers. But I want this car and I have put a lot of time into researching it and finding it at a dealer. I give in, somewhat.

I say: I'll go $150 for the doodads. And please check on the conquer incentive.

Arash says: You're going to lose the car over $250?

I say: Tell you what, I need to get back to LA before rush hour. I'll think about it. [I'm thinking: Camry in my future. Or maybe: check in with the dealer in San Diego (another hour south) that also has this car.] But at this point I'm sick of negotiating.

Finally I say: we can do this deal now, if you'll take $150 for the doodads, plus check on the incentive for me.

Off Arash goes.

Arash comes back: the incentive is okay. "That incentive is acceptable with the Hyundai Circle. It's not okay with some other discounts." Okay, whatever. You deal with this all day long. You're the expert.
$150 is okay for the doodads. "I'm not even covering my costs." Uh huh.
Now that we've agreed, I say to Arash (I'm really curious about this): "Hyundai corporate is right next door in Irvine. You must get these all the time."
Arash says, "Yeah, all the time." Aha!

So in the end:
MSRP: $41,165
I paid: $37,015 ($37,865 Hyundai Circle price, plus $150 doodads, minus $1000 conquer incentive from Hyundai)
[And I accepted the Carmax $26k price for my old car.]

THANKS GENESIS OWNERS FORUM!

Nice job! The Adriatic blue is really nice in person, I'm surprised it isn't talked about more.

And yeah, doing anything with circle pricing is a pain. The sales "people" are usually clueless about it. Especially compared to people here.

Glad you're leaving happy and with a car.

[The lessons are: do your homework, negotiate hard, don't accept BS, be willing to walk away.]

Congratulations! Good luck, be safe and enjoy.

When I called em about Hyundai Circle, they gave me the run around too. Foolish of me to think a car dealer would be straight forward lol. Oddly enough they had also told me the AB 3.3t Sport spec I wanted was going to show up 2 weeks after I test drove there and I never got a call or anything

If I had it to do again, I would have gotten the salesman’s email address and tried to work it all out beforehand. At the very least I would have indicated the price I intended to pay. I guess a lesson from this I will take into my next car buying experience is I will ask upfront “what extra costs do you usually add on to the car, paint protection etc?” so I can know what’s coming. I’m used to it from other negotiations, but it’s better to be prepared.

I hate getting screwed for the extra little costs they throw at you as an underhanded negotiating tactic, but on the other hand my feeling was:
— Most importantly the car is very good value. I think it stacks up easily against an Audi or BMW costing at least $7k more. So my attitude is that Hyundai/Genesis is already giving you a great discount because they are just bringing the car into the market. That makes me feel less pressure to negotiate for the very best price. A couple hundred dollars extra isn’t a serious issue considering the bigger picture.
— I’ve put in a lot of hours researching this car and trying to find it. To drop this particular car over a couple hundred bucks and start over with another dealer wasn’t worth my time. Of course the sales manager knew that, which is why he held out for something on the doodads.
— I have to admit that being interested in a particular configuration, color, interior color, etc, puts me in a very weak position. That’s ultimately the reason I overpaid a bit, so that’s on me. That’s fine as long as you understand that you pay for any choices you make.

Overall a great car at a great price so I can’t complain.

Replying to others in this thread:
— Yes I like this color! I had a 99 Miata in this color which was stolen and stripped after I’d had it 3 years, so I kind of feel like my Miata has returned to me in grown up form. 🤓 For a while I was interested in Mallorca blue also... I think that looks great on this car... but I also noticed over the past couple of months that that color is EVERYWHERE here in LA. Tons of cars in that bright Carribbean blue. So just to have something a little different I started focusing on this Adriatic blue.
— I’m not a mechanic so I can’t say for sure it’s RWD, but that’s what it says on the window sticker.

(Speaking of which, did y’all notice the G70 website changed a few days ago? The 3D view has been tossed for a simpler setup with static pictures of side and top view.)

ETA: Re the Hyundai Circle thing, anywhere in southern California close to Hyundai US headquarters a dealer will certainly have heard of it. So be polite but firm (as always) if they claim they don’t know about it. Say: I’ve talked to several people who’ve used this discount so I guess I’ll have to find another dealer who is familiar with it.

I don't think you overpaid for those extra bits (though they're usually not needed). As a note, some of the SoCal dealers simply won't accept Circle pricing on G70s. Why miss an easy sale, idk, but it's their right to refuse it.

PS: The 3D view is still in full effect for me

Thanks so much for all the detail you put in your posts! I enjoyed reading every bit of it and will use it for when it's my turn. ;)

I cracked up reading from @Slowerthanslow saying "Trying to keep this as quick as possible " :grinlaugh:

Love the Adriatic Blue, nice choice!!!

The standard G70 build site is 2D:
Build your own Genesis. Select model colors and specs | Genesis USA

But the configurator is still 3D for me:
