  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

SPYSHOTS: The next generation of the Genesis G80 is here

Now let's hope for some good colors (blue) and interior color choices like saddle brown!

Not a big fan of the renders but I can point out a couple of things that may not be accurate:

1. Front bumper is much more aggressive on the prototypes. In the render it looks more "Mercedes" like.
2. The bottom part of the bumper is not continuous from left to right. In numerous spy shots there is a separator that connects from the bottom of the grill to the bumper
3. Side view mirrors are much more oval shaped
4. Rear Tailpipes carry on the look of the new g90 (mimics the grill shape)
5. Grill "bezels" in the prototypes are much slimmer than what is in the render.

Not a fan of the Hello Kitty whiskers it has for tail lights

I don't like the dual headlights or tail lights. Also, I'd prefer the licence plate on the trunk, which it probably will be, due to the ease of changing bulbs.

I'd leave the trunk nice and clean as it is. No other badges on it either. Never changed a license plate bulb so that is not a big deal.

From the spyshots the tail lamps look like one continuous housing, with two LED strips (amongst other LEDs thAt make up the rest of the taillamps)

Renders have been highly inaccurate, I'm reserving judgement until revealing. Inaccuracies occur because artists have to render onto 2D spyshots or use the current G80 as a template. Every artist who has rendered it so far, hasn't followed the lines properly. It would take time to create a more accurate version. Lighting and angles don't translate and most artists copy existing patterns onto, which doesn't work.

The spyshots create confusion because of clever camouflage; the grill looks bigger and smaller depending on application. Some details are still unknown; how the headlight design ends at the grill. The camouflage has hidden this detail in every shot. There's so much difference in the design lines, it's quite complex. Therefore it's not easy to translate into rendering. From every spyshot seen, not one render translates it's true form. I know it's suppose to be an estimation, but many people are judging the car from these.

Example of how complex the G80's design is to interpret;

Rough outline of the grill in a spyshot;

All the renders I've seen forget the green section. And the grill appears to have a border, inside the red part. Therefore most of the renders make the grill look too large or too long.

That render looks to be a G80 stock photo with photoshop done. I actually do not like it.

The render looks too much like a Lincoln/Buick product, hopefully it'll be more sportier looking than that. I hope that the GV80 doesn't follow suite of the render as well with the headlights/tail lights...

Well we don't know anything for certain just yet. Most folks here are stating that we will see the 2.5T and 3.5T engines introduced in the new G80 but we don't know for sure. Who's to say that a V8 is out of the question.

I don't like most renders because they seem to be an exercise in self-satisfaction with what the artists would like cars to look like. Most don't realistically take the most up-to-date details from spyshots or design language evolution from recent cars.

For the G80 grill, I was thinking the border would be thin because that's how it looks in the new G90. I prefer the bigger border style of the G70 since it makes the overall grill look better proportioned, but if I had to bet on the future design language I would've bet it'd be thin borders.

The spyshot you attached does look like it has a protruding outline indicating a bigger grill border, but the weird thing is that the protrusion doesn't continue below the license plate and has grill where there should be the border continuing. So that would mean the camoed car only has the border for the entire grill except below the license plate, which doesn't make sense. I don't think the grill border may have been installed in early spyshots and it's hard to say if it would be inside the grill opening or on the outer edge. The part with the green line seems to be an individual piece not connected to anything else... I can't say for sure what it is.

Those taillights won't be two completely separate 'ribbons' (though it will probably have a two-piece design) In some of the camo shots you can see the red brake lights shining through suggesting it's a single unit w/o body breakup.

I also have a suspicious feeling that the headlights are actually one piece with a two-tier design as well (like G90), and not two separate 'ribbons' like the render.

HYUNDAI MOTOR , they already stated that the tau engine will only be a option for the G90 until they phase out.

Those were pretty early spyshots, so I'm not sure how accurate they are to the design of the production car. Those lights are halogen, and with the line design they'd definitely not go halogen.

The link I attached is from Sept. '18, but they're the same spyshots we've been seeing for the last past year. Nothing newer has been revealed, the earlier spyshots had even more camo on them. I can't imagine the overall design being radically difference once the car is revealed.

If you look closely at one of the pics of the rear (in the link), there is brake lighting showing through the camo tape. That suggests to me that the lighting isn't two completely separate ribbons.

Additionally, with the lighting intensity of those photos I don't believe we can say those are halogens for certain.

See the right (passenger) side tail light, it has intense brake lighting shining through the tape. Maybe it's a horseshoe (U-shaped) design? It might look more like the current G80's tails than we think.
