  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone actually confirmed what the oil capacity is on these cars? My manual say 6.02 qts but other threads in here say as little as 4.5 qts but I believe that was for the 3.8 with the oil filter at the top. Going to do an oil change tomorrow and was just wondering what the consensus was. I had the oil changed at the hyundai dealer last time and it reads overfull right now. Thank you for your help!

The 2009-2011 Genesis 3.8L V6 with oil filter on top is 5.49 US quarts (drain and fill).

I thought that it was 6.2/6.3 Qts., for the 2013 V6 3.8

Just had the dealer change the oil, they said it took 5.5qts

Is that the same for the 2013?
I believe that when they moved the oil filter to underneath the engine (2012-2014), the oil drain and fill amount is a bit more. Whatever your owners manual says should be accurate.

The 2015 V6 is different again.

I would not go by what dealer says. Many of them are incompetent and don't realize that the oil fill amount may have changed over the years. If your owners manual says 6.02, I would go by that.

Pulled manual. Says 6.02 Qts.
My online source said 6 liter = 6.3 Qt.

Always go by the manual.

V8 should be 7.6 Qt.

2012 Genesis sedan 3.8L v6
manual says 5.5qts but I only use 5 qts and it shows full on the dipstick

Did you run the engine for a minute or two, wait a few minutes, then check the oil level? If you don't run the engine, then it will show a little high because the oil filter and some oil passages will not be filled.
Also note, better to be 1/2 quart over than 1/2 quart under.

Yes I do run the engine and crawl underneath to check for leaks. No leaks found so I then cut it off, and replace any panels that may have been removed. Then I take it off the ramps and stands to get it level, which means cranking it again. Then I recheck the oil level, usually right at the mark and recheck it again the next day. This is what works for me. But I have always heard that a little under is better than a little over. And if you think about it your dip stick shows a safe margin that goes from full level down to almost a quart low. But we all have different beliefs and opinions, this is just mine.
