  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Subwoofer under front seats?

Would be interesting to know if the subs between G70 and the Stinger are physically the same speaker, only driven at a different crossover frequency or power level? Would not think the two sound systems would be all that different sound quality wise. If the Stinger has the better system than Genesis, not sure of Hyundai’s logic with that?

I agree that it doesn’t look like it’s moving, but the crumb is slightly bouncing from that speaker, I can feel the vibrations from the speaker as the test was done with the doors open.

I don’t think it’s laid to rest yet as I would like to come up with a solution to provide more power to this speaker or a replacement speaker in this spot. There is no way, the slight thump of nothingness these speakers produce can be all they can handle.

My current verdict: Genesis failed with this subwoofer setup.

Anyone have any friends with a stinger who is willing to test this?

Also, lexicon is owned by Harmon... so in theory... it may not even be a different system.

Sorry for blowing the forum up, but after doing research it looks like the stinger’s floor subs are the exact same part number as the g70’s floor subs. The part number is: 96380R. The question now, is why don’t our speakers do this?

Got me stumped. I’m now gonna have to get access to my subs to see what the heck they actually do? I still need to remove some trunk panels to see about access to 3rd brake light wiring so will get some pics of the amp at that time.

Thanks for doing that, I'm becoming more and more curious about my subwoofers. Did you turn on any music to test it while it was out?
I played a bass frequency test track from 1hz to 100hz. Noticed Speaker movement at around 5hz up to 80hz. On top, what appears to be the speaker cone is not actually the cone but possibly a protective cover. This is another reason you won't feel much movement.

Do you think the protective cover comes off?

I'm sure you can get it off somehow but not sure what difference it would make. Are you thinking that removing the cover will provide more sound from the sub?

To be honest, probably not. If the cover acts as a radiator, then we shouldn’t expect more sound with it off.

As a test, I may attempt to monitor the current speakers output on the existing amp. Once a reference point has been determined, I will then try to power it with an external amp with incremental power output to see how much power the speaker can handle and if it makes a difference.

I’m honestly guessing the current system pumps less then 10 watts to that subwoofer.

Ooohh, I gotcha. That makes more sense. Thanks for figuring stuff out for us!!

I have reached out to Genesis and Lexicon on friday. Lexicon said that Genesis is the one to be contacted. Genesis is yet to reach back to me sometime this week. My main question is how to adjust the volume of the subwoofer and also why is the system so powerless. I dont hope for much, but let's see what they have to say.
also i asked why doesnt any place say the power wattage of the system? the G80 and G90 say they are 900 watts..

How do you plan to do this? Signal analyzer or just DCV and Amps across the speaker terminals or out of the amp?

I know in a few cars I've had they are crossed over not at the amp but another speaker. So in theory, the seat subs could be in series to the door woofers with a crossover.

I almost would bet that the Harmon Kardon Amp and lexicon amp are exactly the same thing, with a different enclosure around them. ie why lexicon no longer promotes the g70 on its site under genesis and there is no information about our lexicon system anywhere on the web.

Both cars are 15 speakers and have the same features. I think Hyundai is throwing us a fast one to make it seem more premium.

What do you guys thinks?

I think you are right. Only thing that throws me off is that i have been researching - Lexicon says it is a 11 channel Amp , Whereas Harmon kardon says it is a 12 channel amp.

Kia still has Clari-fi / Quantum Logic with Audience and onstage. Some one even said that the subwoofer part numbers are the same. Some forum threads over in the Kia stinger forums says they have low bass ( but the dollar bill test shows a moving dollar bill).

Hyundai might be throwing us one..

Same deal as Rolls Royce basically being a rebadged BMW. There's definitely someone pulling a fast one and based on the videos above, doing it worse than the original (n)

Did anyone try to access the service menu and see if there are any special settings/ crossovers there??

I am not 100% sure yet, I will need to investigate more and see if I can get a wiring schematic somewhere. If not, then I will need to do lots of testing.

Would be odd if a factory system was adjustable for crossover frequencies? They are built in based on head unit or amp design is my hunch, but could be wrong? What would be interesting is if a Stinger amp would install where ours does and would it make any difference? Even a G80, is it the same amp or different? Commonality among parts saves inventory and design time where it can be accomplished. Would think Hyundai would use as much common stuff as possible?
