Winter wheel & tire packages?

Got a pic of my winter setup from Tirerack. Basically I was trying to get the cheapest reasonably looking wheels with some winter tires with good ratings, but again not super expensive. No TPMS sensors, Tirerack didn't have them available. Not having TPMS sensors doesn't bother me that much, I ran my winter tires on my old car without TPMS sensor.

Specs:
18X8 SPORT EDITION A10-2 DARK SILVR
225/45R-18 YOKOHAMA ICEGUARD IG53 XL

Just an FYI for anyone who may be considering ordering from Tire Rack. They do have the correct TPMS sensors available, but they do not show as a match on the website. I called them and they put the sensors on the wheels. Processing a custom order was more manual and IIRC the cost was $51 ea. They seem to be working well.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else ordered the winter package from Genesis and what do you think of it? I had them installed in December and so far I don't find them as grippy as I would like them to. While traction is great stopping and accelerating, it just seems to slip really easily when turning. I had a 2017 ATS V6 AWD running on all season tires and didn't find it as slippery as this.

Am I missing something here? i.e. drive mode, better tires, or am I just not used to the extra 40HP and torque :)

P.S. ...in Toronto snow conditions if that matters.

^ depends on which tire you went for i suppose. they offer several choices, or at least they did when i bought my package.

i love mine. great overall value and service. tire package is as good as expected and performs well in light snow. i'm RWD and able to get around OK.

If you have 225 on all four corners, I am with you. I am considering replacing my rear tires by 245 or 255 when they will be worn. I have a RWD 3.3t and I find the 225 very easily upset under hard acceleration on wet.

Or you can order for a Kia Stinger GT, same sensors, standard order, everything works flawlessly like several of us experienced.

I ordered everything third party. Got a great price. As I done have Brembo I could drop to 17” 225/50. Went for an inexpensive performance snow tire. Kumho wintercraft WP72.

Not sure what your expectations are on wet pavement and cold. You may be setting your bar too high.

A wider tire may be worse for you in the wet, as it is in the snow.

I got that, but my main issue is on dry pavement (most of my use), I think that 225 is a bit too limited for the torque on the rear axle with the 3.3 RWD. Plus 225 really look wimpy on the rear wheels...

I’m taking delivery of my 3.3T AWD Friday. As I live in a snowy area, I’m having the dealer install a set of 225 winters / alloys that I bought from a former Stinger owner. I sure wish I could see it with the wider rear tires when I 1st lay eyes on it...

You will be even happier once you put back your summer wheels ;-)

I agree that the 225 looks really wimpy on the back, especially on this car. That's what I have and I don't like the look in the rear either, but I don't really want to go with much wider tires just for the look (I must be getting old, all my BMWs had 255 or bigger in the rear and it looked great). I have AWD, so I don't really need it for traction. I told myself this car was going to be more practical 😉.
My plan so far is to put on 235s, which are just a bit wider but allow me to keep a square setup. It still won't look that great, but.... My M3 has 275s, so that should make me feel better. 😊

Maybe it's just me and my tires... but traction is much better with the winter tires when the temps are around 40* and lower. Above like say 46* traction seems worse, the tires almost seem greasy when it's warmer out. Probably just how winter tires work, idk. It wasn't as noticeable in my charger when it was warmer out, but much different car. I have 225s with RWD 2.0T Manual for reference.

I found this to be quite informative about tire types and how they react to different temps and climate:

Sigh, all the money for winter tyres and it's warm with maybe a quarter of an inch all season. Looking forward to getting the summers back on, less road noise and the fat tyres in the back are <3

I had my new snow rims put on my 2018 G80 Sport today. I went with XXR - 559's in 18 X 8.5 with a +35 offset in Chromium black that is kind of a glossy metallic gunmetal. They also come in black and bronze and were only about $150/wheel. I used my old 225/50/18 Xice Xi3's that I had on my previous car. I plan to get one more season out of them as I'm down to about 6/32nds. Here are some pics I'll try to get some with better pics with better light conditions. Did you have to get new lug nuts for these wheels or did they stock ones fit?

I bought the winter tire and wheel package from Genesis and they came with longer wheel bolts. This will likely depend on the wheels that you use with your winter tires.

If I were you, I'd use those OEM 5 spoke wheels as a winter package, they are ugly, imho. 10 spoke are much nicer, but for the price of them, I'd get some nice aftermarket wheels.
Totally agree. I think the black 5-spokes are ugly, but for winter use... The 10-spoke wheels with the lighter gray/silver are a much better look....
