  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was driving on the freeway tonight and all of a sudden the engine light and ESC warning lights came on. After that when I pressed on the accelerator, there was no power. Electricity was still there and the engine was still on, but no power from the gas pedal. I had to turn the emergency lights on and moved onto the side. I was lucky because there weren't many cars around.

It would have been pretty dangerous if there were cars around and my car suddenly stopped.

I just had the 30,000 mile service done about a month ago and they told me that ECS update has been done since I bought the car.

This problem has been reported by others and they had some parts replaced under warranty. Contact your dealer about it.

According to the posters information, they are not an owner of a Genesis yet?

I've read at least three of these lost power tales on this forum and it is really scary. I light of what's going on at Toyota, I hope Hyundai is on top of this and sends something out to owners soon. Its one thing to pop your Toyota into neutral and slam on the brakes, but if you're in the middle lane going 75 with cars everywhere, loss of power can be really dangerous.

Yea it's going to be in the same letter with the info on fixing the 2009 ( I wount say it lest I offend some one )

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I have had the Genesis for a while. Check the date I joined this forum as I joined here after I got my Genesis. It's over 30,000 miles right now. Also read my old messages. When i joined, I don't remember seeing the option to pick the type of genesis. I just went there and changed it.

I remember when I got it, there was a recall for ECS upgrade because the cars were stopping on the freeway in Korea. I checked with the dealer a few times and they told me that upgrade has already been done. Seems like that's what happened to my car last night. I am not going to be driving the car until it's been fixed. It's pretty scary even without cars around.

So there is going to be a recall for this?
No, he's being sarcastic. Translation of what he said: Hyundai won't say a thing based on the hot-button issue about the suspension for which the company hasn't said anything publically.

Thank God someone mentioned suspension in an unrelated thread, I thought the world was coming to an end.....

What does your dealer say? I would want to know if the issue just affects the v-6 or if the v-8 might be affected.

A few instances a recall does not alone make.

I'm not saying that the issue isn't serious, but so far, the reported diagnoses for somewhat similar symptoms have been three different failed parts (throttle assembly, throttle relay, and O2 sensor). And frankly, losing these parts tend to have a similar effect on lots of modern cars. Google "car throttle loss of power" and you'll see pretty much every make and model represented.

Report the problem to your dealer and to the NHTSA. Aside from internal testing, those are the two main ways such safety-related issues are addressed since they require establishing a pattern to determine a root cause. Reporting them to an Internet board may get folks riled up, but it's not going to make the car any safer--only reporting them to someone who can do something about it will.

Dataguy hits the nail on the head. I don't know how many times I've heard people complain to me about "X", yet I have no control over "X", so why are they complaining to me? When I ask them if they have contacted someone who does have control or oversight over "X", the answer is invariably "no".

File a report with NHTSA at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm, or call them at (888) 327-4236.

Thanks for the links and the phone numbers. I will definitely be reporting this incident to them. I haven't gone to the dealer yet b/c I have to go to work, but I will drop the car off later in the evening and see what they have to say about it. Genesis is my commuter car, and I have another car that I can use so I am not that much of in a hurry.

The reason I posted this info on the forum is to find out if others have experienced the same issues and also to give a warning and let people know. When it happened, I was not expecting it and took me a few seconds just to find the button for the emergency lights.

The longer you wait the less the chance of them finding the problem unless it happens all the time. when this happens it will set codes in the PCM if it happens a second time while the code is already set it will turn on the Engine light. If you go through to many key cycles without the problem reoccuring the code will be erased and if the tech can't duplicate it and there is no codes he will have nothing to go by.

My guess is the Trottle Position Sensor.

Okay, here is the info I got back from the dealer.
They told me there is a malfunction with the throttle box.
They are trying to get authorization from Hyundai for the repairs and order the parts. It's supposed to take a few days to get the parts in.

Wonder if Hyundai buys them from the same supplier as Toyota does. Geeze the resale price of the Genesis is already low enough. They already know how to deny from practicing on the suspension.

Don, this isn't a suspension-related or resale-related thread. Stop your trolling and keep it on topic!

Truly Sorry it was just, at least to me a self evident connection as I was just reading about how toyota owners were decrying the loss of resale value. The bad performance in one area breeds worry about all the cars, components. I therefore made the connection between a Hyundai "throttle box" problem and the Toyota throttle problem and relatedly the Toyota owners concerns and what might become a similar worry for Genesis owners. I was disappointed in how long Toyota knew of the problem without admitting it and solving it and got worried Hyundai might do the same thing given my observations on the handling of the suspension.

By the way I know I am very old and very stupid, but could you please tell me in simple terms a moron like me can understand what "Trolling" means, I don't actually know I thought it was a thing you do behind a boat with your bait while fishing while going forward slowly so the fish could be attracted to the bait and still be able to swim fast enough to get it.
