  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Bugs & Other Issues

On the contrary, it is the reported number of bug and problems in the Aviator forum keep me hesitate to buy the Aviator and toward the GV80.
On the contrary, I now have 400 miles on the Aviator and after having driven the GV80, I am sure I made the right choice. You are probably looking at 2020 Aviator bugs that have been, largely solved on the 2021. It is a fact that new introductions tend to have more bugs. I will bet that the next years GV80s will be much improved.

This being a bugs thread you won't hear from all of the drivers that aren't experiencing any issues which I'm sure largely outnumber those that are.

Being brand new, there are going to be issues that are hopefully easy fixes. I'm wanting to pull the trigger and purchase one now, but will wait about a year to 18 months as my current vehicle is rather new (2019). Was also schooled on delaying gratification and not buying a new first generation vehicle....

This is only first year in the US. Korea had a 2020 model last year.

Ya, don't get me wrong. The looks and when it's not a vibrator it's a dream to drive. There are issues, but mostly software ones that are a bit gremlinish but a real good update will fix most. This current vibration in the car that I am experiencing is likely a bad factory balance weight that flew off(yikes). Just scary when you are driving home on a dark highway and a brand new $70000 vehicle starts to vibrate like a car outa hell. As a Macan drives by oh.... bet that one isn't a large vibrator Lol

You might want to try road force balance
I had close to this vibration you are describing and ended up being a tire.
I contacted Genesis dealer and they did not do anything, as expected. They tried but Genesis Canada is as all of you know. Told me to contact Michelin, I did and I'm in process replacing the tire.
Hopefully will happen...soon.

So took it to my local Kal Tire shop to fix in a timely manner. 3 out of the 4 wheels were missing weights. They were all just gone. Let's hope the rest of the Hyundai adhesive holding this car together fairs better.

I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned the Genesis app itself or the voice recognition for the navigation. The app here is extremely laggy and intermittently works. The voice commands for the navigation rarely work. I have managed to get the nav system to successfully take one address since buying the suv in December. Our Mazda takes voice commands better than our GV. We use the nav a lot for work.

Not any excuse but i think a lot of people use either car play or android auto. I know I do and my partner does. I agree i tried voice nav and it just did not compute with natural sentences. You have to look up the set trigger phrases, and even then it is hit or miss. So I am content with just using android auto navigation. Side note, I just love how genesis blends the map and screen saver image. It looks so beautiful.

I wish they had wireless Apple Car Play. I’ve never used the Waze app but I hear it’s better than the nav systems in most cars.

Hey, i totally agree. They dropped the ball on this feature. However I am just happy they integrated AA and CP so well.

On the flip side there are some good after market wireless options for car play. That cannot be said for Android auto unfortunately though.

Edit: Waze is nice but i found the ADs to much for me. Plus maybe just in my location, but seems to be out of date compared to Google maps. Google maps have been my go to, but doesn't work in the same way as Waze.
Canadian GV80 which dealer did you get your car from and how was the service?

Initial:
I got it from Genesis North Calgary(aka: Country Hills Hyundai). The experience started off a little used car sales on the Hyundai side. It was just different feeling then when I bought my new Honda. The Hyundai sales person I dealt with was nice. He helped with a lot of his time while I put him through the ringer with lots of choice. That said some things led me to look at the GV80, and I was past onto a Genesis rep. That is when I was wowed, it was a beautiful car and the sales person seemed dedicated and sincere. Besides the small office for genesis upstairs the whole experience felt smooth and straight forward(the office experience was straight forward but not a setting of luxury). My family bought a Lexus and it was again, different.

Delivery:
This is when the luxury feeling came. I didn't have a home delivery but having my rep contactable after the delivery and having my questions answered after the dealership was a very nice Genesis touch. Having a courtesy car is a great feature for Genesis to stand out from the pack. The bad side was the car going in for a drive-ability problem but not having to set foot in the dealership again was nice and getting a Genesis loaner. That is the icing on the cake to feel less upset about the problems that came. That said it is a very lovely car but mine has a bit of sass.

Service:
The sad part at the end of the day is that it is still a Hyundai dealer and it still has that feeling. When I was having my unbalanced wheel poblem, they said nothing was wrong on the first diagnosis. Typical dealership. Where as the local Lexus dealership is known for amazing service and fast diagnosis.

TL;DR: Amazing car, great first kick at the cat. Experience was straight forward purchasing the vehicle. Office "luxury" needs improvement, as to why they do home delivery. Typical Hyundai dealership service. Courtesy cars/valet to book appointments are the icing on the cake and worth the price of admission, to a degree of course.

If it helps,, i noticed turbo lag, a miniature glove box, lack of bass in the stereo, lack of a middle rear seat, crappy gas mileage, lack of cup holders, no seat massager as advertised, no spare tire, poorly designed rear cargo system, the round crystal ball thingy doesn't work as anticipated. Otherwise, I am happy with the car.
I don't have any of these issues.

Actually they do have an answer for Android Auto:

Mine is in the mail (from China) and I will report on how well it works once it arrives.

Ya, I saw that a while ago. Neat project. I just meant on the market. As good as indigogo campaigns are, the product is not always as promised or delivered. Looking forward to updates on AAwireless though.

Update:
The vibration issue came back and my VIN was not under the recall for the drive shaft.

Dealership found that my drive shaft needs replacement. There is supposedly a recall for this however my VIN was not one of them but still needs replacement. If you guys get vibration issues make sure to bring it in! Also I had a temperature senor that was faulty (reading like 30 Celsius when it was not). All these issues but service is in the process of the warranty work, just waiting on Genesis Canada.

Hyundai service level: They were amazing today and very helpful, thanks Country Hills Hyundai. They did not jerk me around and after we did a ride-along that I asked for with a mechanic, they witnessed the issue first hand and found the issue within a couple hours.

Sounds like you have a decent Hyundai dealership.... you’re lucky. Edmonton is not so lucky. Question... is Country Hills Hyundai a Go Auto dealership? Ours here in Edmonton is.

No they are part of the Kaizen automotive group. It's a nice dealership for Hyundai all the other ones seem a bit run down. Once they found the drive shaft issue they have been very good. Before hand it just seemed like I was a tiny bit of a bother asking about driveability issues, but there you have it. It's not safe to drive so they got me into a loaner till it's ready.
