  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Hyundai recall #201 (ABS)

I went to my local Genesis dealer...They said this same ABS recall also occurred in the Hyundai Tucson last year and they fixed a bunch of them....
If they fixed a bunch of Tucsons, they must know how to fix the G80s and shouldn't be taking much time! I called the dealership this morning before coming here and they eagerly set up an appointment. Then I asked the service writer "So that means you've got the replacement part in stock and aren't just replacing defective with another defective part?" After checking, he had to cancel the appointment. Ask me if I feel confident.

If your car catches fire in your garage and you've heard the warning from them not to park there, does that absolve them from liability? And if your homeowner's policy got wind of the fact you'd been warned of the possibility of a firebomb in your garage and you ignored it, would they refuse to pay? I hate parking outside. Black shows all the dirt!

My experience is that Homeowner's insurance tries very hard to get out of paying any claims. In the best case here, they would pay you and then sue Genesis to get back what they paid. In the more likely case, they would put you off till Genesis paid, which might take a long time.

All that said, the risk is very small here. Yes, it's not zero, but neither is the risk that your house might burn down even with no car anywhere near it. Are you really noticeably increasing the odds? Has anyone looked at their ABS module to see if it looks spotless or if it looks dirty and/or rusty? Is this more of a problem in the north where roads are salted? Is this more likely on older cars than newer ones? The figures seem to keep changing, but the last ones I saw said six fires in nearly one million cars, and I don't think there were any injuries or other property damage in those cases.

I realize the risk is near 0. But not 0. If a fire happened and your car was in the garage after you were warned, I can imagine both your insurance and Hyundai saying that it is your fault for putting the car in the garage after you had been warned. That's all I was saying. I wouldn't want to risk having to pay for all the damages to my house, I have been warned.

I don’t know about the rest of you … I have not been warned … I have heard nothing from Hyundai

Correct.

Until Hyundai sends owners an official recall letter; that means you have not been properly notified of the issue. However, I still remove my fuses when parking in my garage to prevent burning down my house since I have became aware of a possible issue related to the 40A ABS fuses by word of mouth.

The official recall is scheduled to be released in May I believe.

Please update this thread then the remedy is available.
I rent out my Genesis on Turo and they won't allow me now to do so.

Does anyone have a suggestion where I can get the 25A slow or delayed action fuse

I just bought a multi pack of 25A delayed fuses on Amazon. Hopefully, it is the correct fuse size on the Genesis for the recall.

Interesting, the owner's site no longer has the recall notice up for my car. I assume (hope) they are rewording it with the solution and will repost it soon.

I sure hope someone will post it or a notice of it as soon as the recall hits OR if somehow it is canceled.

Yeah, I noticed that too today, but if you you scroll down, hit "safety recalls", put your VIN# in, then you'll see it.

This came in the mail a few days ago - No doubt about what it is... said they were working on a solution.

Go to - www.HyundaiUSA.com/Campaign201 for info. Just gives you the VIN tool.

Hoping to get more info about recall 201 I attempted to join <owner.genesis.com>. After getting in with great difficulty, I was told that my 2016 Genesis is not a Genesis, it's a Hyundai. How stupid is that?!
There apparently is still no solution or finalization of this recall - my first and very major disappointment in Hyundai/Genesis. It smells like this kind of arrogance is common with the company.

Genesis as a corporation started with the 2017 models. Up to that time, it was a Hyundai Genesis, just like a Chevy Impala. It is not stupid, it is following the laws for corporations. As a corporation, each has specific obligations to consumers and product support and responsibility.

The solution has to be found, engineered and approved by the NTSHB. Then dealers have to be made aware of the procedure to do the fix. If you consider that arrogance, that is on you.

You don't need to join owner.genesis.com to get more info on this recall, registered owners will receive a notice in the mail.

2015 - 2016's are technically Hyundais.
