  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Driver seat backing detached

I have a 2016 sedan (I guess it would be the equivalent of the G80).

The back of my driver seat just popped the other day. Only I drive it and no passenger on that side.

I can’t seem to find clips or anything to re-attach.

Has anyone had this happen?
The same thing happened to me. The top clips snapped off with lite use of the seat. Was this under warranty? How did you repair it?

There are options to fix yourself earlier in this thread. Mine was pretty low tech but it has held up fine the last few months. Let me know if you have any questions.

Use the zip tie method described in this thread.

Many many thanks for the hint about the zip ties. My son was able to repair my seat back and when he checked the other side it was almost broken too. The Genesis dealer said the "part alone was $450." Right. You have saved me $1000 plus if I had let them repair both sides. Thank goodness when it happened I had sense enough to check on here and see if it had happened to anyone else.

Unfortunately it has happened to many of us. My passenger seat went first and then drivers a few months later. Zip ties seem to be holding fine.

No worries. Glad it worked out. Zip tie fix has been working great for me. Been quite a while now.

^^^ Ding ding ding!

I have had this happen to me. The plastic tabs on part #7 were broken right off. There are two metal pieces that slide under those plastic tabs and push into the frame of the seat. That is how the entire back piece is attached to the seat.

I went to the dealer and they asked for $850 for part #7. I said screw that. I fixed it myself by drilling two small holes on the broken tab housings. Put a zip-tie thru the hole and around the metal pieces and tightened. Lined up the metal pieces with the locations on the frame of the seat and pushed them in. It has been a SOLID fix for a while now.

If you need to access the internals of your seat, I don't see how you access them without breaking those plastic tabs. Seems like a design flaw.
Hey, Albertan, thanks for your zip-tie idea. Any chance you can share a few more details? You drilled holes in the tab housings - what do you mean by this? I see the square, metal pieces attached to the seat, and they line up with the spot where the broken plastic clips are. So, where exactly did you drill, and through what did you pass the zip tie through? It seems that to tighten the zip tie, the backing needs to be pulled away from the seat body - so how does it become tight enough to stay in place?

Many thanks from a New Yorker with a "tru" soft spot for Alberta!

Yep. Plastic clips broke. I fixed with 1" angle brackets from the hardware store. $2

I’m interested in how you did this. I used 2-sided tape but doubt it will last. Thanks, David

My 2015 42000 miles passenger side rear panel broke off yesterday. I was planning to to try and glue the broken pieces back with epoxy glue. But this zip tie method is just brilliant..

I zip tied mine last week so I know you can do it.

I don't understand the zip tie method...does anyone have any pictures??

Mine did the same thing on the passenger no one in the seat. The person took it to the dealer did they say it was covered or how much it cost to fix

I have a 2015 Genesis and that happened to me too. The clips broke. Plastic. I modified 2 pieces of 1.5" angle brackets to replace. I should have taken a picture...It's been over a year and still on.
