If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front brake pad and rotor replacement at dealer

buy the pad from some elsewhere but the rotor from the dealer please because OEM rotor is cheaper than after market :P, just the pad is crazy-expensive

So this week I'm hearing a slight chirp grind when applying brakes on my 2015. I have 36,000 miles on it and I know during a tire rotation a while back a shop told me front brakes had worn quite a bit and needing replacing soon.

Local tire shop offers new pads and turn rotors for 165.00.

Price seems good but is 36,000 too early for a brake job, meaning i wonder if more issues hiding?

I replaced mine at about 40k. Depends on where and how you drive. When I lived in the city, I was happy to get 15,000.

IIRC, I paid about $200 with new rotors at a local shop vs $300 at the dealer.

Don’t waste your time and money for turning them because you will end up replacing them right after and you will end up paying almost twice. Been there, done that.

Never had "turning" work out. Might be the way I drive or just the fact that rotors are super cheaply made. If y'all don't want OE pads I recommend AKEBONO pads. They're really good and available almost everywhere.

My 2015 5.0 front brake pads were just at the wear indicator bars at 76K miles before I changed them. So 36k miles seem a bit premature based on my 2015 5.0 brakes pads. I have no experience with the 3.8 brakes; which may last longer or wear sooner.

I never turn rotors,; I just replace them with the pads to prevent warpage and a pulsating brake pedal.

Got the front pads replaced, rotors turned included 1 year warranty all for $149 with a coupon the shop had. Feels good and solid now.

I just replaced my front OEM pads at 62K miles with Bosch QuietCast Ceramics. $53 or so delivered from RockAuto ($38 plus plus). The wear indicators were broken on the thinnest, my sound was a section of the backing plate starting to rub. Rotors were great.

Like a dodo didn't even look at the rears (meant to) - how much more life are folks getting out of rear pads vs. the fronts? If you know, please tell me life of both so I can get an idea of the ratio.

Greetings! thinking of getting POWER STOP K702926 Z26 Street Warrior Performance Kit. from RockAuto.com.

Does anyone have weight specs on this kit compared to OEM rotors?

Greetings, thinking of getting POWER STOP K702926 Z26 Street Warrior Performance Kit from RockAuto.

Has anyone gone from OEM to this kit give my some ideas of the performance difference, as well as any weight increase/decrease? TIA

I get the daily driver centric rotors with akebono pads and recommend them to everyone. I've put them on my 2003 M5, my genesis along with a bunch of other cars. Order them from rock auto, you won't be disappointed.

FYI, I have the power stop's on my car now and the first set that I bought on amazon was actually for a G1 genesis not the G2. I found a few online stores that showed them fitting my car when they didn't. I contacted power stop to notify them that they have them listed for the wrong car and provided proof of the websites showing the wrong parts for my car and they did send me the new rotors but still said I purchased the wrong set and refused to acknowledge the issues online. That was July 2019 and I just order new rotors and pads from a local Hyundai dealer today as the power stops shake like mad when braking at speeds over 40. Maybe I got a bad set or maybe they are still not the proper ones for my car? Who knows but I got 40k from the OEM set before I started to feel some vibration and not even 10K with the power stops. They still look good though!

As for the OEM parts my dealer down the block wanted $500 just for the rotors and pads and another $200 to install them and wanted $40 for my broken dipstick. I found another dealer in northern IL and I got the rotors, pads and dip stick for $330+ tax. Shop around if you want OEM rotors.
What shop in northern il did you get those from?

based on my driving style, front rotors and pads are for change after 50k miles

There’s so many differing options folks on this forum are suggesting, is there any reccomendation folks have for brand and part that seems to be the best result? I see Bosch, centric, Power stop, but I don’t know a whole lot about this and want to get something as good or better than oem. Ideas for a noob? Also, if I order pads/rotors online, do I need things like pins and screws and connecting harness stuff to bring to my local shop for install, or just the pads and rotors themselves?

As you found, there are several options. Try going to RockAuto and look it up. Look under "Brake Pad" and "Rotor" for your car. There are some higher end and more expensive parts, but the Daily Driver parts are just fine. I put a set of Centric on my last car (G37) and they were great.

Or, go to a car shop and ask them for a recommendation.

Had POWER STOP K702926 Z26 Street Warrior Performance Kit installed over the weekend. So far limited driving and TLC on pedal during breaking in so cant speaker to have they perform vs OEM, but I could already tell huge improvement. Well for once they're brand new rotors and pads and brake fluid flushed. Was told flushed out fluids had minor bubbles. so stopping power vastly improved from doing all the work just mentioned. Will test hard braking once broken in and report back.

I just bought the pads and rotors, no other parts, and paid for the install. I think I paid $150 or $200, can't recall - but it was worth it! My back thanked me.
