  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Thanks. Yes I saw that. The fact that they had to "rent" these vehicles is just comedy. Genesis really blew the official press launch of this vehicle. They appear to be selling well but had they had full mainstream reviews out they'd sell all of them in days. I just endured another totally low brow review from some idiot who did nothing but sit in traffic with the blinker on. Anything for a click in todays on-line world. So bad I won't even post it.

They said they rented from Genesis. I don't think you can find this at the car rentals.

I agree concerning not being able to easily reach the infotainment pad on the dash. Trying to navigate to whatever with the knob while driving is frustrating. The learning curve with my GV70 is taking me longer than it ever has with any vehicle I’ve owned.

Has anybody experienced when you stop the vehicle, it rocks forward and backwards for a second or two? Almost as if you were driving a tanker half full of liquid.

Patience & persistence is required.

My CX-5 has a similar controller: the Commander Knob. Once I learned to use it, I strongly preferred it to the touch screen. It is much easier IMHO to turn the wheel to scroll through choices one click at a time than it is to lean forward and touch the target area while driving. Eyes off road and body in motion cannot improve your driving. Certain selection vs a poke yonder? No thanks!

Agree with this 100%. Once you get used to it, you take your eyes off the road way less using the rotary controller vs. the touch screen while driving. I think BMW's iDrive is the industry's best (which is ironic given how it was panned when they initially brought it to market), but the Genesis system seems intuitive to me as well. Plus, it gives you the option to use the touchscreen too which comes in handy at Red lights or while stopped in my opinion. Like the previous poster said, give it time...

That's the normal MO for CR.

They typically never do press fleet reviews (they also miss out on those manufacturer paid trips for new vehicle launches).

Usually rent from manufacturer (or other) for 1st drive/impressions and then purchase from a dealership for their more in depth review.

Surprised that Genesis rented to CR so that they could publish before the press fleet embargo was lifted (maybe this means that it's imminent).

Another month goes by with the press embargo still in place in the US. Absolutely unprecedented to have this vehicle out to the public for 2 months with no official journalist reviews. Incredible.

Genesis USA President and CEO Mark Del Rosso went on a personal leave of absence on the 1st of July. I wonder if there’s a connection- maybe he was supposed to speak at some launch event, etc? Or perhaps Genesis is trying to give US mags time to do comparison tests for the launch? It is pretty strange at this point.

Covid?

That wouldn't stop them from getting these vehicles to at least Car and Driver/ KBB/ Motor Trend and the top on-line professional journalists. I'd be willing to bet there are many possible customers out there looking for un-biased opinions from professionals as opposed to some of these pretenders taking a car from a dealer and sitting in traffic with the blinker on. Brutal to watch some of these. I think somebody made a big mistake. Canadian reviews have been out for over a month. Makes no sense. The GV80 had already been named SUV of the year at this point.

lol, the "professionals" work for a magazine that gets advertising money from the companies whose cars they "review". Ill take a youtube review anyday.

TBickell, I am one of the people you reference above. I'm looking to replace a GLC43 in the near future and pretty much have it narrowed down to a GV70 3.5 Sports Prestige or a BMW X3 M40i. It's not that I need C&D to tell me what to do, but I can't get the kind of seat time they can to really explore the GV70 and its capabilities, so it would be nice to get some 3rd party feedback from some professionals. Like you said, the jokers taking cars off lots for "test drives" on YouTube are a joke and far from helpful.

I guess August 1st wasn't the magic date after all...

What do you need from C&D advertisers? 0-60 times when using launch control/brake torque which is meaningless? Only your own butt in the seat can tell you whether you like it or not. Most of the important factors are subjective anyway.

There's way more objective reviews available from real on-line reviewers that have the car for a week or more like Savageese, Redline and Alex on Auto's. KBB, Edmunds and US News are also good for basic information like leg room, cargo room etc. The only "reviews" out there are pikers pretending they know anything about the car trying to get clicks on You Tube so they don't have to get a real job. I've watched them all and most have flat out incorrect information.

The BMW was my other choice. I only have had a few minutes of seat time in the M340i and it is also a great SUV. As I have previously said that in-line 6 is tough to beat but for me the GV70 came with better equipment and tech and looks wise it's no contest. I've got almost 2000 miles on my Sport Prestige and I have no regrets. The BMW is a more raw sports car experience but the GV70 is way more refined and luxurious in my opinion. And obviously more unique.

Many of them have more viewers than the "experts" you treat as gospel have readers. Is there a special credential that C/D has? They are paid advertisers.
Who on youtube has flat out incorrect information? Has C/D never published incorrect information?
The popular youtube reviewers make 5-10+ times more than some schmuck writing for C/D. It is no less a "real job" than working for an almost defunct car publication.

Personally for me guys from Throttle House and TheStraight Pipes said everything I needed to know about the car.

You’re reading the wrong reviews the wrong way. I agree that the most important factors are subjective, but many are impossible to discern or even explore in a test drive.

Stop with the C/D reference. It's one example. I don't care if they are on all the manufacturers payroll. It's about gaining knowledge from people who have experience. Yes some of these You Tubers make more money than they should because we turned our world over to 5 big tech companies and now look where we are. Like anything in life there are some people who are good at what they do and some are terrible... This would be an example of terrible. At least after watching this tool bag you would know what the turn indicator sounds like.
