  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2017/2018 radio swap in 2016 ultimate?

It's screwed into the tray with 3 screws, have to remove that upper circuit board to access. I have a post several pages back with a teardown image set.

As far as being 64GB, are you sure yours is an Ultimate? That sounds suspiciously like a Tech with the 9.2 inch screen.

You do have the jog dial on the dash in front of the center console, correct?

You can try swapping it anyway, the worst that will happen is it still won't boot.
Thanks, I was thinking it was screwed in but didn't want to start pulling it apart without knowing. I definitely have the ultimate with the 9.2" jog dial and everything. That is why I was a little surprised to see the 64GB SSD in there when I pulled it apart.

Hi, can you guide me in more details how did you write the uploaded image on ssd? I tried clonezilla as suggested but did not really find out what to do exactly((
I luckily run a small software company and one of my engineers develops on linux so I gave a blank drive to him and he had it mounted in like 2 minutes. Not quite sure how he did it but I would be happy to ask.

Just wanted to thank you for your help on this. Swapped the drive last night and plugged it in today. It booted up instantly like it's brand new. I think a new modern drive that is 7 years newer makes the system much more responsive as well, feels 2x as fast as it used to be. This saved me at the very least $500 for a used unit or $4000 for a dealer replaced unit. Thanks again for your help.

Make sure to use the Genesis navigation update software to get the latest map and software package. The version in that image is at least a few revisions old and there are several improvements since.

That was my next step. I started the update process but it was stuck on Validating Files for like 15 minutes and nothing happened. Wasn't sure if that was common to take that long or something wasn't working. Not sure if you noticed this or not from anybody else but the one thing that doesn't seem to work is the Settings menu. Its there but any select just freezes the system and nothing happens. I am hopeful a software update will fix it but wasn't sure

I have asked my engineer to put together a little guide. Granted he was starting from a linux system so he said it makes it alot easier than using a windows machine to create the image.

I haven't been able to update yet. Tried multiple times and just get an error that says cannot update. I didn't know if a reboot of the system could help or not before I do the update. Because settings don't work I can't get the setting screen to try to do the update. I have to rely on the update prompt that comes up whenever I stick in the SD card. Let me know if you can get anything to work.

See if you can get into engineering mode and run a factory reset through diagnostics.

Also, see if you can read the SMART data on the 64gb drive. If it indicates just a high write failure rate or something not a total loss, you can try imaging it to a new drive and check operation.

I tried that but did not work ( after that rear cam is not working properly also i think 😁

You would need to set the correct features option to PG5 in versioning.

I did update the system with latest soft, now it goes to settings and works. Only thing about rear camera, it works but there are double parking guidlines on screen and no “top view” option. It was ok when i replaced ssd then i think i just mixed up something in settings/engineering mode 😁

How did you get the update to work? I noticed you guys mentioning engineering mode. How do you get to that and how do you get it to take the software update?

Update started immediatelly when i put a new SD card in.
Engineering mode can be accessed by pressing bluelink+Menu+tuneup buttons together. Then there is some codes to access different features. 0428 is for full eng mode. 23A3D570-A3B7-4BB6-80E3-BA7483A2067E.webp

thanks, did you have to do anything once you got into engineering mode or just put the password in and then stick in the SD Card?

Once you put in the password for Full Eng, you go to Software Update (maybe it's just Software?) and run the updater from there.

tried the update this morning. I got into the engineering screen and there were two options Software and Software Update. I didn't seem to need the 0428 password but I did need the password for Software update. I selected that and got to a screen that says update from USB or iBox. There was no SD card option. The USB option listed a lot of options like Kernel Update or Current, etc. I just decided I should ask on here before I attempt a next step

Before you try the update, do Diagnosis > Command > Factory Reset. It will reinstall everything from scratch. You need to be in the 0428 menu and it will take about 45 minutes.

The USB update requires an 8GB USB stick with a system updater on it, I don't remember if the Navigation Update software can make these or not. I'm pretty sure all the files that are on the SD card are what you need, minus the map folder.
