  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2018 T-Handle Shifter Swap

Bud, you might want to do some basic research before trying to tell me I'm wrong. As I said, I was looking into this for HOURS.

The 2 part numbers with 1550 in it is JUST the cap, as you can see here in this pic and in literally any Hyundai parts website where it shows that it is just the cap.View attachment 39935

The 2 part numbers with 1050 are the full shift knob, but both of them are for the SBW version only.
I stand corrected on the cap. Weird. My 2015 gear knob was a much simpler purchase. My apologies brother. I will just stick with the round gear knob for my 2015 anyway.

Here is the new shift knob I bought off Ebay for my 2015 with same part number as this part site.

Yeah I know, I wish it was that easy. The old shifter can be bought as just the shifter, just the shift boot, or there's even a part number for buying the shifter and boot together as a full assembly.

For the T Bar shifter though, as I have just shown you, 2 of the 4 part numbers listed under 46720E correspond to just the cap of the shift knob, and the other 2 of the 4 part numbers correspond to the Shift By Wire version. There is no part number to be found for the non-shift by wire version.

Too much trouble for me to worry about since I actually like the round shifter better anyway. Good luck with this project.:)

I'm gonna set the car up as a show car and I want the T bar because it'll look better in forged carbon than the round shifter. Plus I'm left handed and I tend to rest my right hand on the shifter when driving and resting on a T bar is way more comfy.

To each their own. I only touch my shifter about three times when I drive. To select "D" or "R' when moving the car and then "P" when stopped. I use the paddle shifters for any manual gear changes.

I never really liked the T-shifter design on any car.

My shifter will get updated when I update the car....

Same here; I am sure my next shifter will be a rotary knob or push button.:)

There's nothing wrong with that either. I've just always had the car mod bug and like doing new things. Keeps me occupied. I used to use my Mustang (it was the first 2011+ twin turbo V6 in the world) to campaign for Make-A-Wish Texas at car shows and I miss doing stuff like that, which is why I'm gonna set the G80 up as a show car, because it's not a platform that is often extensively modified so it will likely catch attention at car shows.

My buddy is already working on the custom forged carbon trim and steering wheel. I'm working on a custom intake and a few other things.

Will be test fitting the T bar shifter this evening.

Sorry, was working on the damn shifter literally all night trying to get things perfect in a way that would be easy to replicate for others.

I can say it is absolutely possible and all you need is the full shifter assembly from a T Bar car, and you have to switch a few parts between the two and shave a tiny bit of plastic.

Probably more effort than most are willing to put in considering you have to tear into the floor console 😅😅😅

Wow! Just wow. Bad module placement so close to the cup holders.

Nah, they're pretty far apart. If you were to spill something through the cup holder somehow, it wouldn't touch the module there.

Pics of the show car modifications you are making to your Genesis. I assume that you have some other mods done if you are making custom T-shifters already.

Side note: That is a lot of work just to swap shifters, but I respect your commitment to the cause.:)

Nope, haven't done much of anything yet other than plan. Picked out wheels, installed the AEM cold air intake, waiting on my Kydex/Holstex to get here in order to mold a custom closed airbox for the AEM CAI, bought the G4werkz spoiler, finished the testing for the T Bar this evening, working with Velossa Tech to have a "Lit Kit" big mouth snorkel set made for the G80 and to have a single snorkel as an option for purchase for the 3.8. designed the custom tri-color forged carbon.

Have a plan, just gotta put it into action which is going to take some time.

Here's a pic of the last forged carbon steering wheel my buddy and I designed for one of my mustangs, so you can see kind of where my head goes with designs.

Th custom forged carbon takes a while, but the T handle has been sent to my buddy for him to work his magic.

Here's a teaser, and the interior trim will be matched as well.fbffbe754c38e429a3ee7251d3df69b_900x__01.webp
