Re: Exhaust---Borla has it on the racks!! UPDATE 04-07-10

3 - ALVIN SAID THAT THE IN-CABIN SOUND IS AGRESSIVE BUT VERY UNDERSTATED. I MEASURED THE DB LEVEL BEFORE I DROPPED IT OFF TO BORLA AND AT A STOP WITH THE MOTOR OFF WAS 40DB, ON THE FRWY AT 70MPH 60-65 DB, THATS QUIET. IM ANTICIPATING THE SOUND LEVEL BEING SOMEWHERE IN THE 70-75DB AT WOT.

Would be very interested in hearing the in cabin numbers. The drive by seemed awfully loud to me. I would prefer a system that only was louder on hard acceleration, so that the car would stay nice and quiet when cruising on the highway.

You are absolutely right. Watching and listening to this video-clip, I would agree that it would have to sound loud inside the cabin. We drive many cars in our business and while we can tune or adjust the sound on what you hear on the outside, we need to find a balance of sound for the interior and exterior. Vehicles vary in cabin size, configuration and materials. Many late model vehicles are well insulated from exterior noise. You Genesis Sedan is one of the best that I've experienced. IMO, this Cat-Back is a terrific balance of V8 aggressive sound and a noticeable interior growl. The real test is listening with windows up, then powering them down... night and day.

I will let the owner share his thoughts on this topic next week when he drives it. Thanks again for your concern.

What would happen if you just replace the tips

not sure what you mean. If you mean from stock system = prob nothing just an aesthetic change.. It would really depend on some other factors; such as diameter of pipe and inclusive or omition of other components like resonator or mufflers....

I agree.
I know it's hard to tell how it sounds by looking at a recorded video, but I think it's going to be a little too loud for me.
IMO, it's too sports car-like. Initial ignition on almost reminds me of my Vette.

LOVE the way it looks w/ the quad tips, but I wish it was a little quieter like the Merc Brabus exhaust.
But then again, I'll have to see and hear it in person. :)

Thanks for the video clips and all, Alvin.
Good job!

Dan

Re: Exhaust---Borla has it on the racks!! UPDATE 04-07-10

Forgive me if this has been covered already, but is this for the V8 (4.6) only? I wouldn't mind adding an aftermarket exhaust to my V6 (3.8) provided it sounded half as good as the V8 exhaust. :)

Re: Exhaust---Borla has it on the racks!! UPDATE 04-07-10

For now it's the V8 they're talking about. But I'm sure Borla will have a V6 version ready pretty soon. Correct me if I'm wrong, Alvin.

...You'd be pleasantly surprised how nice this sounds inside the cabin - we all are surprised about the SPL. I encourage you to wait for feedback from others. Thanks again!

I promise when I get the car back I record and release the DB data. I will include as much pertinent info as I can related to the sound level regarding this exhaust......:grouphug:

Actually you're right. I should really hear it in person before making any assumptions.
I look forward to it!
Even the prototype looks awesome!

Alvin, any hint on aprox. how much it's going to run?

Re: Exhaust---Borla has it on the racks!! UPDATE 04-07-10

Today on our dynamometer I ran the stock system and our exciting new True-Dual Cat-Back w/X-Pipe.
Here is the plot: (+19WHP/+22TQ over stock)

In addition to the Cat-Back, I ran a back-to-back dyno of our Rear Section (less aggressive sound, less performance).
Here is a plot comparing all three: (+6WHP/+4TQ over stock)

I wanted to share the performance benefits of our True-Dual Cat-Back w/X-Pipe over our rear section. We are in discussion about offering both products and we'd like to hear any comments or feedback. Cost is always an issue for our customers. I believe most customers would prefer our True-Dual Cat-Back w/X-Pipe for best performance and (a really awesome) sound. Thanks again for your interest!

AlvinT I think the numbers for the CAT-BAC system are amazing! I really think BORLA should strongly consider producing and offering both systems. perhaps you guys can place yourselves in partnership with Hyundai America for performance options in the parts/sales department for new purchaser as well as current owners. These are really exciting options for the V8 Genesis.

Re: Exhaust---Borla has it on the racks!! UPDATE 04-07-10

Im wondering if you ran the demo runs with the traction control enabled or disabled.

Thanks for the dyno results.
For me, sound is more important than anything else.
19WHP improvement from just an exhaust is VERY impressive, but I'll be okay with say, 10WHP and a decent exhaust note.

Cheaper price tag is always a good thing, but not necessarily the top priority.

If both of the options are available, I'd probably go with the end section because it's not as loud as the full cat-back.
It'll be great if you could offer a "touring" version of the x-pipe for less agressive sound.

Re: Exhaust---Borla has it on the racks!! UPDATE 04-07-10

Alvint, did your dyno testing include fuel ratios? I am interested in seeing how your system leaned out open loop wide open throttle.
