  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dead battery

Unfortunately, the terminals on that battery did not match up. Have now owned the car for 34 days & it’s been in the shop for the last 28. In 2 days we qualify for a lemon law resolution & may go that route. Very, very frustrating & infuriating!!!
You're really going to lemon law a car over a battery you could go buy in minutes? Abandon the idea of a free fix by a magical dealer service department, take your own initiative, and install a battery! Don't live so passively!

It's $220 standing between you and your car you've gone a month without.

Thanks! Had no idea that was an option!!
It is not an option. Special dimensions for the GV70. I just waited 5 weeks for a battery replacement. Aftermarket battery not available. Genesis finally got together with Interstate Battery to manufacture
some.

So Genesis spec'd a battery that was entirely new/never existed before for the GV70? Seems highly unlikely. Were it me I'd ask them to take that battery out and i would head down to my local auto parts store and match it up. Its a near certainty that it is a stock battery but as others have pointed out its not in their data base.

All fine & good, but I’ve been told that will void the warranty.

You are right Kcsen. This other guy wants to think this is as simple as buying a replacement that will fit, if that is possible, but warranty concerns have to be considered.

Whatever. A non-Genesis-branded battery doesn't void any warranty. Warranties don't work that way. The only thing Genesis would no longer warranty would be the aftermarket battery, which as you've found out, means SQUAT if they can't get them in the first place!

Umm, there is nothing "special" about the battery. I posted it already:

It is a bone-standard Group 65 AGM battery. Not unique at all, in dimensions or performance. But hey, I realize some people will just not accept facts no matter how much proof they're given for for those who choose to willfully ignore what I posted, have at it. What would "this other guy" know about cars?

I can tell you this though: I don't have a $65k pavement ornament. Mine cranks every time.

What warranty? People have been using off the shelf batteries since the invention of the automobile. What makes this special? Metric voltage?

I have no clue, just repeating what I’m told. If I go that route,

Dealership agreed that putting in an aftermarket should not void the warranty. I called Autozone, they don’t carry it. O’Reilly says it’s a 94 series & they have it, but their insurance coverage will not allow them to install it. Not quite as simple as some on here think!

I needed a battery six months ago and AllPro parts said they could replace a battery in engine compartment but not any interior space, including under rear seating and load area or in trunk. Something covid something. It is of nearly no consequence to change a battery. If the random parts person can do it you can do it. Maybe with help if your lifting ability is limited.

Please stop asking the parts stores what goes in your car. O'Reilly is WRONG. A 94 series battery is also known as an H7 and while it's the right size, the terminals are backwards.

I did the research. I even posted links to the right battery. All you have to do is find an AutoZone in your area that has it in stock. It's true the parts stores usually won't install interior batteries. If you have to, buy it and have the dealer install it!

It's on the shelf right this moment here in my dinky little town so they are out there in stores.

You seem so certain...but coming on so strong in this forum doesn't really resolve the concern new car owners have when they get conflicting answers from service departments. Maybe you should help Genesis out and advise them of the results of your research

Interesting problem for those of us in Phoenix. Sealed batteries in engine bays almost always flame out after a year or two. Extreme summer temps cause electrolyte to evaporate with no way to replace it. I'm always on the lookout for a flooded style battery as a replacement but maybe the GV70 interior location will mitigate the issue.

We're not as hot here, but still kind of hot. Underhood batteries seem to last about three years here, but in trunk batteries go for 5+ years.

Don't use a flooded battery in this location. Use either an AGM or Lithium. Absorbed Glass Mat batteries are superior to Flooded Lead Acid batteries in every way. Lithium weighs much less and lasts a long time, but is really expensive. I think the location, inside the passenger compartment, settles the issue of whether to use "sealed" FLA batteries anyway.

Good point. Assume OEM is an AGM? I'm too lazy to remove the tire to look.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Just as an FYI. These batteries aren't really sealed. They have a connection for a vent tube, to vent any gases to the outside of the car. Group 65 batteries are available as the flooded type (with the "sealed" vent tube connection) and have been used in the trunks of cars since at least 2000. (My previous cars used these batteries in the trunk.) Still, I would use only AGM here, since the car's charging algorithm is expecting that specific chemistry.

Sorry but it takes exactly zero qualifications to be a dealer "service adviser." Seriously. The first skill they learn is how to shovel BS while keeping a straight face and sounding authoritative.

Did you even read my first post? Where I took apart the trunk of a new GV70 to find the battery and measure it, and took a picture of it? What more proof would you need? What I have said is not conjecture. I have done the work to find out the battery people need to drive their vehicles instead of letting them sit -- for a MONTH or more -- because dealers don't have any batteries in stock. Just because a dealer won't pay for an aftermarket battery doesn't mean it's the wrong battery.

My link went straight to a replacement AGM battery that is for these cars. I run AutoZone Platinum in my Equus. I put one in my dad's Ram 1500 Limited. My brother has one in his Grand Cherokee Summit and his Mercedes CL65. If it's good enough for a $190,000 car, I think it's passable in a GV70. I have over 30 years experience as a hobbyist in cars ranging from mundane to exotic. I think I can figure out what battery is in a particular vehicle.

this is all starting to sound like the punchline to a joke starting

“how many Hyundai dealers does it take to change a battery?”
