Blind Spot Detection - Fix or Replace BSD

I have the same problem . Hyundai dealer re calibrated it which held for a week then it happened again . Dealer said the fix is to replace the entire BSD system at $1400 CAD . Whatever was my reply ... likely a short or something since its intermittent . Unfortunately same old hyundai dealer service . Many hyundai models suffer from this ailment there must be a simple fix . Perhaps debrix or salt ?? In Ontario ..

Is your vehicle no longer under warranty? Were you charged for re-calibration.

My issue seems to now have the system resetting itself, only to go right back out again. I hopped in the car to go to the bank today and it was working. Before I stopped the engine, the check BSD system light flashed on again. Came out of the bank and it was back to working. Drove home and it threw a fault again, before I was even back in to my garage. For grins, I restarted the car and the BSD went back to working again.

If you experience is any indicator, it may simply be that Hyundai dealers are slow to warranty the issue for parts replacement, no matter the circumstances. I don't know if systems like this qualify for a safety recall, but reading elsewhere does suggests the parts used for the BSD system are somewhat problematic; and any light fender touching on the bumper corner exposes an inherent weakness in this system's reliability. Sort of a fragile part to put in one of the most vulnerable and exposed spots on the vehicle.

Mine started to fault at around 120,000 kms . Since out of warranty the dealer did charge for the calibration . Your car seems to be doing the same thing .Mine will show "check BSD" then at times "BSD cancelled" . From the other Hyundai forums the problem seems to be common in other models as well . Being intermittat I can't beleive the entire system needs to be replaced as is what the Non Gen dealer adivsed me . I think it may be a short or moisture as it definitely seems worse when its raining or snow/ slush .

Sorry for the delay, I was out of the country for work, I wound up buying a used unit, hopefully it works.

I will keep you updated.

Sorry Gebop and Westy, that you are going through the same issues. Unfortunately my car is still under the bumper to bumper, but some #@$! pushed in the rear bumper in a lot, and I could not see it, except when on a lift, there was a minor indentation that you could barely see..... Not happy. They need to better protect the radar units.

I need to get this fixed before the lease end which is very soon (but I plan on extending it as I can't get a similar deal).

My BSD system has begun working again and has stayed on without resetting for over a week now. This could certainly be coincidence, but this ‘on again’ steady state began when the weather broke above *80 F.

Perhaps the underlying brackets or sensor have experienced a small bit of expansion with the hotter temps? Just guessing here and hoping things are back to normal now and keeping my fingers crossed. Maybe you’ll get lucky too when your weather moves toward summer temps.

Still faulting but the weather here in Ontario is still poor . I intend to call another dealer to see if they have a BSD fix in any of Hyundai's lineup .

The short is that I got my BSD to work again. To do that I used the new bracket off the ebay sensor and used my old sensor (and had it re-calibrated).

The ebay sensor did not work with my car (software mismatch error code per dealer)

The old bracket was bent (thanks to a valet or other person while parked I guess, no marks on bumper, but bracket was bent), and I guess I could not get it close enough to the original position.

The replacement had a bracket in excellent condition btw. Hyundai does not sell the bracket separately......

So there is a chance for those with mysterious issues that it may be a bent bracket from someone who could not park correctly and pushed ont eh sensor (it is right at the corner of the bumper, bad spot IMO).

It only took me about a year to get this done.

Funny now that the snow and slush are gone and its a little warmer out I dont get the error codes .:(

I searched past threads on this subject and replied to one from December. I didn’t realize until afterward but thread I posted in was from the Off Topic forum and I have yet to get a response from my post after the Super Bowl.

Below is my copy and paste from previous post. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Previous thread link: G80 BSD problem!

I had someone back in to me last week in the parking lot. It was a low speed tap and the guy that hit me offered to pay out of pocket so I went to a paint shop I’ve used previously. I picked up the car Friday and the $350 cosmetic touchup turned out horrible. Very upsetting and now I don’t want the painter touching the car again.

The BSD was working fine when I drove to Super Bowl gathering yesterday but on the way home I got a Check BSD Warning. I thought there may have been sanding dust on the sensor located on the back bumper, so I cleaned, reset ignition, but the warning remains. Is a reset/recalibration possible or is the warning always indicate a replacement part is required?

Does the BSD use the bumper sensor or are those strictly for backup guidance? This “plate” mentioned by OP, is it something not visible and behind rear bumper skin? Is there a way to reset the system or am I likewise looking at $1,500 repair bill? Not sure if I have screwed myself out of filing an issurance claim at this point and I’m just going to have to pay out of pocket for repaint and BSD repair? Between my insurance deductible and the depreciation hit from a CarFax accident scarlet letter, I’m wondering if the system could be a CPO warranty claim item instead, provided a second fender tap touch up puts the bumper back to like new again?

Any insight or comments appreciated here. The rear cross traffic setting in User Setting > Driving Assist is now grayed out. Coincidentally, I noticed the SCC setting seems to have disappeared. Anyone know if this is somehow related to the BSD setting being grayed out?

Just had the same issue in my own driveway. My wife "kissed" the right rear bumper. Scuffed the paint and apparently damaged the right side BSD sensor (BSD sensors are the outermost pair on the curve of the bumper, the inner pair are parking/backup sensors). My dealer collision center did a fantastic job of removing/reinstalling the bumper cover, repairing and color matching the scuffed areas, replacing the sensor bracket, all for under $600. Then the service department got in the act and jacked up the bill another $560 for "re-calibration" of the original sensor! I though this was excessive for what is essentially an automated software tool.

Dang the check BSD sensor warning is on my 2015 genesis sedan, anyone find a solution?

Replace the $2000 module
Or take a chance on Ebay and buy new sensor module for $349 or a used sensor module for less. I would just swap new module into the old bracket if the left side is the issue. However, you will need a GDS tool to properly setup the new modules it seems. The GDS tool cost about $300; which is a must for out of warranty repair work.

Ahh man that's such an annoying issue, the dealerships probably love it though, easy money for them. I'm taking it to the dealer on wednesday lets see how much they quote me haha, or else I'll have to do it manually or find some mechanic somehow that knows how to do it. Thank you for the help!

This is kinda off topic - but I accidentally discovered an "unknown" quirk of this system when I was driving in West Texas....

I was literally in the middle of nowhere between Fort Stockton & Marathon and at the halfway mark with zero traffic, the dash display flashes "BSM Deactivated". Kinda freaked me out. Found out later if the system doesn't receive any input for over 30 mins, it shuts down until the next startup.

Just curious - where can you get a GDS tool /software?

Ordered one off Ebay. I have not received it yet, but it is coming from China. I ordered a Tech 2(GM tool) from a similar company with much success years ago.

I do not need a GDS tool yet, but it is good to have one just in case I need to replace a module.

And, which functions (if not all) require a subscription?
Generally the cheap GDS tool is not on an active account ; so I would not expect it to perform any Hyundai software updates. However, the tool should be able to re-calibrate new modules when replacing parts with the included software; as well as any other module special functions.

I saw the one on Ebay. Will be interested to see to how it works for you - I intend to use one for much the same purpose. I've got a malfunctioning parking sensor I'd like to diagnose myself, instead of getting hosed by the dealer.

The tool will be handy if it works. However, it is always a risk buying items off Ebay; especially non-sanctioned dealer repair tools from China. You will need a GDS tool to work on most of the systems on the Genesis it seems; so a GDS would be a good investment down the road if you do your own repair work.

I ordered a GDS in 2021, but it never made it for some reason. The seller just issued me a refund without any reason why. I ordered another one recently. I want to have a GDS readily available just in case a module goes bad; so I can quickly repair my Genesis.

Buying a GDS tool from China can take weeks for it to arrive; if it ever arrives at all. I do not want a module to go bad and have to wait on a tool to arrive.

I found a vid that shows calibrating BSD sensors
It looks like several angles must be precise for each sensor to work and then the tablet has expensive subscriptions from each manufacturer every year.

Mine has displayed "BSD Cancelled" recently on a long trip. When we got home, my wife noticed a scuff mark in the corner of my rear bumper. This pisses me off, because someone doing a hit and run that looks like "nothing" could cost me several thousand dollars!
