  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Supercharger or twin turbo

Already has 295's on the back, lower profiles. The key thing I am hoping to get is a true sport transmission. With the ECU/TCU tune it moves the redline to 7,000 and locks out the autoshift. No plans on over-revving but would be quicker if you can change higher in the power band.

I use 93 octane and the 5.0 has nothing but power to give so I agree. Lack of traction is the Genesis worst enemy in my opinion even in stock form. I would first just buy stickier tires and turn off the traction control; and then go from there if you want more performance. I am sure the car" even in stock form" will give you a good 4.7-4.8 second 0-60 times with only better performance tires.

The max torque is really high rpm(5000)for our engines, so our cars are really better at accelerating at high speeds. I have noticed that my car really like to be already rolling to perform it best acceleration. Therefore, rolling starts are the best way to launch my 5.0 engine.

I just press the gas pedal lightly at first to get it rolling and then punch it. so far the car seems to move very quickly with that method. I have not tested it with the GPS 0-60mph app,but it feels good in all drive modes. I have tried flooring the pedal from a stop and it is hit or miss if the car moves or just spin the tires. Rolling starts seem pretty consistence without wheel spin.

Can our engine/transmission even survive the extra horsepower/torque gained that is created by a turbo or supercharger. Do our engines have an open deck or closed deck? How strong are our main bearings and rods?

Yes, you can make a custom turbo/supercharger unit for any engine, but most engines require extensive internal upgrades to survive forced induction without tearing itself apart.

Even Hyundai designed a completely different engine(3.3 V6) for forced induction instead going with the 4.6 or 5.0 V8 engines. They may not handle force induction reliably unless completely overhauled internally.

It would seem to be easier to just pickup a used 3.3 turbo engine in a few years, tune it and retro fit one to the older Genesis chassis for some serious power gains.

Well, that is what I would do for a project when my Genesis is paid off and the engine has more than 200k miles.:)

Used 2015-2016 5.0 engines are going for about $5k or less online, so I bet in a few years some 3.3t engines will be selling for about the same price.
I used to race my 87 GN Buick. Horsepower is money. I had the engine blueprinted with new internals & was pushing 650hp, 725torque @25 boost. Rule of thumb is what's the compression of the engine? High compression 10-12 means Supercharger, low compression 8 or 9 to 1 you can put a turbo. Last thing you want to do is blow up your engine. I read somewhere when the 8speed came out it would support 1000hp., the 4.6 with the 6 speed 600hp. And yes, I too want a turbo setup. I have a 2012 5.0L with 48k miles.
Cheers, Bob

What was the source of the transmission power ratings? I also read what the transmission may support posted by forum members; but no one ever listed any supporting documents or links to any actual information on the subject.

I personally do not think the automatic 8 speed clutches can support that much engine torque(or 1000hp).

Most OEM automatic transmissions are rated to hold just a bit more than the published engine torque for long term reliability. I will give the stock 8 speed about 450ft/lb before the transmission began to eat clutches and start slipping by 100k miles; if not sooner.

yes we have finally come to the most updated point in this..... and we can all point to GEP tune. He is the real deal. Made a real CAI and his tunes are legit.

I believe he also custom made his own headers as well as full 5.0 custom exhuast for the v8. tcu and ecu tunes on deck as well as IAT relocation and many more. GEP TUNED IS THE BEST
