  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Curious if anyone is having this and if we should take it in.
Our gv70 is 2 months old with 2k miles currently. We have noticed if you are barely touching the gas pedal to Maintain a steady mph there is a very slight whine from the rear end. Once you give it slightly more gas it goes away. Same happens when letting off the gas, if you ready to brake and slowly let off the gas at the moment of neither acceleration or coasting the whine appears again until you either give more gas or take your foot off the gas pedal completely.
I have read the gv80 is having this issue and it’s the rear diff.
Thoughts? Or is anyone having this issue? We have the 2.5

There’s a good amount of threads about rear end issues with the car. The cars with a LSD (only 3.5 prestige) were thought to be the only ones to have transfer case/differential issues in later 2021 but now in recent threads more users have been getting the AWD warning light and having to get their differential/transfer case replaced on 3.5 and 2.5 cars.

Might want to keep an eye (and an ear) on yours and try to take it in whenever it isn’t an inconvenience.

Going off on another tangent that may be completely incorrect: I remember seeing in a thread somewhere a long time ago (maybe it was about the GV70 or maybe the G70) that the transfer case is/was manufactured by Magna International and is the same system BMW used in their older x-drive system (E90 generation) and was reported to have failure issues on the forums. I don’t know if that same part is still being used in the GV70s or BMW’s newer x-drive system or if the part is now newer and updated compared to what was on the older BMW’s. Either way, it seems like there are issues with the transfer case.

Yes, I just heard it for the first time this weekend. Whine at highway speeds when doing steady or slightly decreasing speed. Goes away when you press on the gas pedal. I have a 2.5T Prestige.

Anybody have this issue on a 2023 model? Though I doubt they changed anything for 23.

thats what we are experiencing, however, we have had this sound for a few weeks but this past weekend, it seems to have stopped completely. I wasnt even able to make the sound on purpose anymore.

What is the mileage on your car?

Yes, dealer has ordered the rear differential which won’t be here until September. 🙄 The loaner GV70 did it also.

Update: we took the gv70 into the dealer this week and they did confirm the rear diff is needing to be replaced. they ordered a new one and expect it to be here in 3-4 weeks

Dealer ordered a new differential foe.my gv70 with 3700 miles. Not sure if it's new or refurbished being a new model. Quick acceleration caused a rumbling sound after 3 times in a row had it towed in. Not even sure if it's because of the transfer case replacement 400 miles prior being the dealer never replaced one yet. Don't know what to believe or trust anymore. Dealer wants to make money and possibly throwing parts at it and not being sure that the cause. Very concerned.

Yup mine does this. 2.5t SP. Started with about 700 miles on the odometer, im at 1200 now (was in Hilton Head and drove back to Atlanta). When I'm at ~50 mph, foot off the gas, I hear the whine. Goes away when I accelerate or brake. Would love to know if the new differential fixes it.

I will let you know, our new one is supposed to be here in the next week or so

Update differential supposed to be in by this weekend only time will tell. Never noticed a whine. Hopefully not just throwing a part at it pictures of the black fluid were sent. Quick acceleration and a screech from underneath was what I was hearing when I had it flatbedded in. 400 miles after the awd light came on multiple times after the transfer case was replaced. If bought back should I go for another this time a 2023 model if the dealer works with me and there is inventory to be had is my question to this forum. I did love the truck until all the problems

I would definitely chose the 2023 MY.

Hi,
Quite a coincidence, I checked the forum for the exact same reason and I see your post. Mine starter 2 weeks ago when I was driving on the highway between 80/90 km/h when I slightly accelerate. It goes away the minute I step on it. I had the car for 3.5 months now and after 3 weeks I brought it back already for a rattling noise coming from the front, the dealer ruled as being a loose plastic :) but someone on the forum suggested a loose heat shield. I have another appointment with them next week to fix it drives me crazy … and now this new sound. Overall I am disappointed since I find it doesn’t have the fine tuning for a luxury car , I have mixed feelings about my purchase at this moment.
Thanks.

Dude, I traded in a 2022 Volvo XC60 for my GV70 that had constant problems. Not just mine either, it was across the board. Compared to what I was going through, an easily fixed rattle and replaceable rear differential are nothing. If you want to see how bad they are just take a look at this forum.

This thread is pretty much a summary of what my 10 months with the car were like.

I agree its with any vehicle. I bought a 2017 Cadillac XT5 AWD and for the first year I had it at several dealers for rear end vibration in AWD mode. Everyone said it was normal. I was finally able to escalate it to the highest level of Cadillac and they confirmed that several vehicles were fitted with a differential that had a balance problem. They sent a tech from the factory to oversee the replacement and it fixed the problem. There were several other XT5 customers with the same issue on the forum. It happens with any new vehicle and and many times its with the first model year. My Corvette on the other hand is a first model year and has been flawless.

Any update if rear diff replacement fixed it?

ours went in this morning for the replacement, supposed to be done this afternoon, ill update tonight

Picked the gv70 up with the new rear diff. After 10 mins, this new one is worse then the original. This now howls really loud, like really loud while accelerating, coasting and decelerating. At all speeds. Original one made noise only when feathering the gas.
Taking it back tomorrow, we waited 5 weeks for this one to get here. Not happy at all.
