  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 rear end noise

Add me to the list of people with this issue. '23 2.5 Prestige. I get the rear hum around 45mph when I have my foot just slightly on the gas. Started happening around 700 miles. I plan to take it into the dealer soon.

I'm now at 2000 miles and I have a new noise. Basically when I'm at a stop or pulling away at idle speed there is a deep kind of pulsing sound from the rear. Sort of reminds me of an old diesel engine at idle. Kind of difficult to describe, but does anyone have any ideas or could it also be related to the differential?

well the first thing you described sound like the rear diff, the new sound? who knows, but i do know our 2nd one that went bad in 5 miles, sounded like the spin cycle of a washing machine but really loud compared to the original diff which had the gas pedel feathering
hum

What year/model is your vehicle? Most seem to be 2022 MY with Feb/Mar build dates...wondering if that sample is growing now?
Advanced plus 22 i recived it in june assuming its a march build

There is a thread discussing a recall due the torque converter.

Hopefully Genesis initiates a recall for differential issues as well as this is getting absolutely ridiculous ...im terrified of purchasing this vehicle not knowing when parts will become readily available again.

Also address the AWD light issues Genesis.

Curious if anyone is having this and if we should take it in.
Our gv70 is 2 months old with 2k miles currently. We have noticed if you are barely touching the gas pedal to Maintain a steady mph there is a very slight whine from the rear end. Once you give it slightly more gas it goes away. Same happens when letting off the gas, if you ready to brake and slowly let off the gas at the moment of neither acceleration or coasting the whine appears again until you either give more gas or take your foot off the gas pedal completely.
I have read the gv80 is having this issue and it’s the rear diff.
Thoughts? Or is anyone having this issue? We have the 2.5
Our GV70 2.5 Advanced is 2 months old and has the exact symptoms as H2only's.

Numbers are growing… At this point it’s clear there is something fundamentally wrong with diff used for GV70. Would be nice if Genesis acknowledge that officially. Had I known this is the issue many GV70 owners have, I would have never bought it, as this simply stinks for a mile. Hopefully we all gonna get resolution to it.

I wonder how they know which VINs were affected? Sounds like a production line problem that took a few months to find and fix.

ive read its a fluid level issue as opposed to bad parts. This would explain why most that go out do so after a couple thousand miles and only affect some. I read some are the correct level and some are shipped with too low of fluid.

Hm… did they ever confirm what was the fluid level on the replacement diff you got?

i'd have to write a very long story of the events and scenario that lead me to why I think this, but i am nearly 100% sure my second diff went out because the dealer installed it but never put ANY fluid in it. It went right back to the dealer so I never personally checked, but a few verbal slip ups on their end over this past month and a few things they tried to tell me leads me to believe it was dry, but they wont admit it was their fault.

Maybe they're just telling me what I want to hear when I ask about whether my vehicle is affected and they say my VIN is not part of the recall. I guess it's possible they found a problem on the production line that prevented the fluid from being added correctly for a period of time...we may never know what the actual issue was. If I get the problem now after they told me I wasn't affected, I'll let you all know!

So there an official recall? Did your dealer tell you that?

Yes...and some people on this forum are beginning to get formal notifications of recalls.

Whoa, time out. The Recall thread is about a torque convertor (part of automatic transmissions) , not a rear differential problem. Think you have the wrong impression.

They are related from what I've been told. I'm not a mechanic but some people have had both replaced in an effort to solve the problem.

The person that posted about a recall, the message he received stated Torque Convertor (big donut shaped component that slings automatic trans fluid inside). This is the only person (on this forum, that I've seen) who has reported a recall for that part. All other multiple drivetrain issues have been Transfer Case (bolts up to the rear of transmission) replacements or Rear end/e-lsd (rear differential) replacements. So unless that message is a misstatement, it's a non related problem.

I'll tell you guys, this torque convertor/differential problem is keeping me from pulling the trigger. I'm also concerned about the nearly nonexistent Genesis only dealerships. Don't get me wrong, I think the GV70 is a FANTASTIC vehicle, but the fact that there appear to be continuing "rear end" problems during the 2nd year of production worries me. I hope Genesis does right by all of you folks.

For what it may be worth, our 2015 3.8 RWD Ultimate Sedan had the rear differential replaced under warranty due to a whistling noise at medium speeds while accelerating and coasting. I could play a tune on it, and in fact did just that for the technician.. The differential may be a totally different part by now in the new GV70s, but, may be a continuing rear end issue. That has been the only relevant mechanical issue for an otherwise beautiful car.

This and the fact that it will take weeks if not months to get the parts needed, which is affecting all other auto makers.

Just waiting to see how Genesis officially address the issues that members here report daily, which will be my deciding factor.

What's curious is that in that text message, it says 4WD Torque converter. What does 4WD have to do with the torque converter?
