    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2017/2018 radio swap in 2016 ultimate?

Need a little clarification, I have the aftermarket carplay unit. got about 7 months. I have an iphone 13, just wondering if anyone has problems with connection. it uses wi-fi and bluetooth but sometimes it give me hella slow internet and the touch screen is always buggy. would switching to a cable help more? and i notice someone said the audio improves but u don’t think mine did.
the unit sucks monkey dick lol

Alright I’ll wait. In the mean time.. Do you think this also matters?
What's the part number for that harness you used for job knob? Or is it a hidden plug already in center console.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Kind of surprised I have not seem more people attempting this.

Just started a sales job, and wanted a really nice highway cruiser, without spending crazy money. Picked up a 2015 5.0 Ultimate - but Android Auto is a must have for me. I am not interested in the cheap Chinese head units or 'hacks' that just hijack the factory screen. OEM is almost always the way to go for smooth operation and integration.

I have a 2018 G80 Lexicon head unit and a 2018 G80 Lexicon amp here.

The amplifier connector(s) are completely different. So you will need to source an amp with pigtails, and best if you can find a head unit with pigtails as well (since you need to add wires to the head unit to run to the amp)

From what I have researched in the diagrams, the wires I believe that need to be added are
Code:
AMP -------------------> Circuit Description ----> Head Unit

Connector A, Pin 9 ----> Navigation voice + -----> Connector A, Pin 13
Connector A, Pin 20 ---> SPDIF High -------------> Connector A, Pin 6
Connector A, Pin 21 ---> SPDIF Low --------------> Connector A, Pin 15
Connector A, Pin 22 ---> SPDIF Ground -----------> Connector A, Pin 5
Connector A, Pin 23 ---> Navigation voice - -----> Connector A, Pin 17

@tenesikorea Is the above correct?

In addition, the original amp uses one wire/pin for ground, and one for power. The new amp splits the incoming power between 4 pins, and 4 pins for the ground as well. So in addition to re-pinning and adding circuits, you will need to split the incoming power and ground wires into multiple pins. The MOST connector does not appear to be used on the newer Lexicon amps.

Everything else looks to be somewhat straightforward. I tested out the new radio earlier and as expected everything powers up but no sound. I started taking the trunk trim out and where I thought I was going to be able to re-pin I discovered I need entirely new pigtails. So once I get the pigtails I will start modifying the harness in the trunk.

I will post updates/completion here when it is ready.

Any updates on progress?

Not yet, but not for lack of trying. I am having a hard time locating the amplifier pigtail needed. All the 'self service' junkyards around me don't have new enough vehicles. And the 'full service' yards don't want to cut a pigtail but sell me a whole trunk harness for way too much money.

I know the pigtail is shared with some other Hyundai/Kia vehicles. Just haven't gotten one yet. I even tried reaching out to some online parts dealers when they have other parts listed for a G80, but generally the car has already been scrapped and all they have left is their cataloged/inventoried pieces that were removed.

Radio pigtail was no issue, as almost all the Hyundai/Kia vehicles use the same head unit plugs so I grabbed a few to use the spare pins from.

If anyone has a lead on the amp pigtails from a 2018 G80, I could use a set (and maybe a spare to get some extra pins from).

I just bought a radio and amp from a yard close to me (got the pigtails) today. Not sure that helps you though, but I can take pictures of anything if helpful.

Do you have the pin out diagrams for the 2015 radio and amp and the 2018 radio and amp?

Also if helpful the harness on the amp part number is 2188225. 2x required.

@genecyst Can you provide me with with the wiring diagrams you have for both 2015 and 2018? Looking at your pinout suggestions for the new 5 wires Connector A Pin 17 is occupied in my 2015 diagram (from Chilton's) with Ilumination (-). Connector A Pin 12 is open.

@genecyst @tenesikorea

I completed my install today but have no sound. I got my diagrams from All-Data and have all the pinouts correct. Genecyst one of your pinouts is incorrect.

For me, it is either one of two things:

Optical Cable / MOST Cable- the 2015 amp has a provision for this while the 2018 does not. Do either of you know if there is a MOST-AMP that that cable plugs into in the 2018? That is what it is labeled on my wiring diagram (MM44, MOST-AMP)

My SPDIF cable of three needs to be shielded where mine is not.

I can't shake the MOST Cable though- per the wiring diagram it comes from the head unit, goes to the I-box then to the amplifier in the 2018. I have nothing to plug it into in the new lexicon AMP.

Thank you so much for this! I have no idea how I missed the notification from before. Just ordered a pair. I finally found someone that was willing to sell just the plugs but they wanted $65. This is better.

You are correct, but it won't let me edit my post. Nav voice - and + go on pin 12 and 13 respectively on the head unit.

The earlier amp/head unit used an actual optical cable to bring the sound data to the head unit. From my understanding, it is now transmitted over the SPDIF rather than over optical. So the optical/most cable is not used.

Possible that there may need to be some config or option setting in the HU? I would think it would work out of the box since the two parts are from (electrically) the same donor vehicle.

I've ordered the connectors, will be a couple weeks until I've got them and gotten the car torn apart.

I figured out my error- I had incorrectly mapped MCAN low and high. Swapped those wires and it worked. I can upload my excel spreadsheet that I did the mapping if you are interested.

I figured out my error, I had improperly mapped MCAN Low and High wires. Switched them and all worked. No shielded wire needed for the SPDIF, and there is no optical port.

I made some adapter harnesses using these: 2007-2011 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Factory Wiring Harness Wire Connector

I bought 4 of them to get extra wires and re-pinned two of them to what I needed, that way I would not need to cut the factory harness ends off for the new ones for the AMP. I did have to dremel down two ridges on the 2015 Hyundai White connector of the factory harness to be able to plug into the dodge adapter. Hyundai offset the plugs to prevent you from inserting them incorrectly, so the female dodge radio adapters fit only one of the 2015 plugs without modifications.

And here is the radio side of the 2018 just in case anyone needs it, you can track where the 5 wires for SPDIF and Navi Voice you need to add are.

Just a follow up, we have no backup camera. Will try to trouble shoot that now.
