  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone had intermittant ac problems? On my initial test drive of the v8 sedan, the ac would not work - drove with windows down for about 5 minutes when it decided to work, enjoyed the quiet ride with windows up. Second test drive, without wife, was fine. Dealer closing/pickup and the ac would not work!! Still in shop...any suggestions? Is this common? Read about the hot air out of rear vents, but nothing like this.

We had the first problem today- Our Genny has a little less than 1500 miles on it. When my wife got into the car this morning to go to work, she pushed the start button and got a message that said "key not found." (yes, she had the fob in her possession). The car has power so the battery's not dead but neither fob does anything to start the car.

Called the dealer and they thought the key might have "lost its signal." In any case, they told me to call roadside assistance and now the car is on its way to the dealer...

Picked up the car last night. The service guy told me it seems the battery in the car was defective. There was nothing wrong with the fobs - they replaced the battery and everything worked!

Car started right up this morning!

Been hearing a lot about bad batteries. I wonder if problem happens a lot for all makes and model cars?

I've had numerous experiences with bad batteries over the years. For me, premature battery failure has not been particularly unusual regardless of car make (Ford, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, the list goes on...)

Just got a new genesis v8 and am amazed to find that on the nav system you can only input a waypoint with street, city and state as opposed to most others where a name will suffice! On my other cars i put in names of frequent stops for accurate time of arrival among other things.

The difficulty of adding waypoints or "marks" on this system is a glaring error. All other gps units I've had just required a button push to add a mark or waypoint to the system. Any time you're passing anything you'd like to return to later, just push a button.

It's true that the Edit Address Book menu is extremely limited, only allowing you to add by street address. But there are other ways to add to the address book. From the Destination menu, go through the selection process just like you would for setting a destination (by POI, category, name, phone number, etc). But on the very last step, instead of choosing "Set as Destination", scroll down and choose "Add to Address Book".

One thing that is indeed missing the ability to add the current map location as a waypoint, I haven't found a way to do that. (It only took two presses of "Enter" button to do that from the map screen on my Infiniti). Also, the four "Favorite" spots can only be entered by address since it doesn't let you choose from existing address book entries for those.

There are lots of little "holes" like this in the DIS, it seems to me they started from scratch rather than learning from other systems and taking the best features of them to incorporate. The eventual move to Sync should be a nice upgrade in this area.

BTW all of this applies to Tech/DIS, I don't can't speak for the touch-screen Nav since I never got to try it out.

Edit to add: You can also add current map position (or any other position on the map) to the address book via the Destination menu. So even though it's a little unintuitive (and takes more steps than would be ideal), it is at least possible.

Thanx - I'll try that.

Iphone 4 IOS and Hardware

The new iPhone 4 operating system (on my previous 3GS and my current iPhone 4) is having issues interfacing with the head unit on my 2010 4.6 sedan with Technology Package.

Since Apple released the updated software, the iPod functions now are extremely slow/sluggish to scroll through artist lists (you can hit the down button for scrolling through by page and wait up to 15 seconds before it responds) after interfacing the device.

I'm not 100% sure they're going to release a new navigation head-unit update/upgrade in August with new map data, but hope they've done something to the interface software.

Okay, I tried. No joy. Nothing easy, at least.

I recently (yesterday) took my V8 in yesterday to get oil & lube but also to check the lumbar in the drivers seat. It stopped working weeks ago. I really just noticed the difference between it and my Armada seat's lumbar. They never saw it before and ordered a part after look at a Genesis in the showroom. No biggie so as long as it gets fixed.

Yesterday when I visited the dealer I found I needed new tires. I have had my Genesis 4.6 V8 since June 5, 2009 and logged 20,500 miles. Is it my driving habits or are all high performance tires this way in that they wear so quickly? I can see the warning tread coming through! I need a new set already at $200+ per tire! I guess that was something I should have been asking. My wife will hit the roof when she finds this out! Say it isn't so Hyundai, say it isn't so...I need at least 40,000 out of a tire.

20k miles out of the stock Dunlops seems to be quite the norm.
You don't have to go with the same OEM tires. There are better tires for less money.

Also, setting the alignment to a less aggressive toe should help with the tire wear.

Nearwater, you may be onto something. when driving behind my Genesis i was surprised to see toe out on the rear tires that appears huge. Makes sense it could probably a factor in the wear

Squeak from driver's side armrest which was cracked underneath the leather. Had it replaced but still seemed to squeak where the armrest meets the door. Turns out the squeak was from the door panel itself. A small piece of plastic as a shim between the door frame and panel near the door latch fixed the problem.

Right rear door lock not working with any of the automatic systems. Will be taking it to the dealer for the fifth time for the same problem when the second actuator arrives.

Tilt steering switch failed, waiting for part.

Love the car for the price.

4.6 with Tech

So I just picked up my 2010 Black/Black 4.6 w/Tech on Saturday... and I've already noticed something wrong. Sigh. At least it's not major :) Looking at pics I took at the dealership, I've had the problem since Saturday. The issue? The chrome strip around the passenger's front window is missing. Oh well, time to call the dealer - I'm sure they'll be reasonable :)

I had the same problem - turns out the chrome is not missing, but the prep guy just failed to pull off the protective rubber tape. Just grab an edge and pull - it will peel right off in about 2 seconds.

Also - open your sunroof and look from outside. Chances are you'll see a strip of blue protective tape. Remove that as well, otherwise you'll get a lot of wierd wind noise. I don't use my sunroof so it didn't matter to me, but others here had reported the problem. I looked, and sure enough, there was the tape.
