Here is a new one.

I got in the car to go to work this morning and my RADIO KNOB IS MISSING????

GONE...I looked everywhere and its just plain gone??? Maybe it caught flight when I had all my windows open yesterday...who knows...

I dont even use the thing. I use the steering wheel controls.

Wow, that sucks.
You're talking about the power/volume knob next to the disc slot, correct?
I wonder if the dealer can order just the knob.
They probably come with the head unit.
Good luck replacing it.

Dan

CRAZY! There have been a couple of times when I've reached or done something on the dash and when I return my hand back to the steering wheel my hand hits the knob and the volume turns all the way down.... Maybe you hit it off and didn't realize it... unlikely but possible.

Weird!

Purchased 2010 Genesis two days ago; a 3.8 with Premium Package and Navigation. The wife was apprehensive about purchasing a Hyundai, and leaned toward the prestige of a (used) BMW or MBZ, which we have owned previously, but I and Consumer Reports (plus other favorable reviews, etc.) convinced her the Genesis was the right choice.
This morning, she goes out to head to work. Rolls down the windows. The car does not start. We have a dead Genesis! I'm not home, so the dealer troubleshot it with her, and is having the car towed. It has perhaps 90 miles on the odometer. I am truly, truly not happy about this at all, and hope that this isn't the beginning of a lemon nightmare.
Having written a check for this just two days ago, I'm feeling a very strong sense of buyer's remorse. :(

Wow...that's an incredible bad luck. If it helps...I've had my car for over a year and it's been a dream for me. no problems at all.
Please keep us posted and don't let this bad luck incident ruin this great buy you both did.
It's a GREAT car.
Hang in there...

Please let us know what the problem was. I'm about to make the purchase for the exact same model (although Canadian).
thanks

I have the 2010 Tau with Tech, and have not had a single issue. It amazes me when I drive by and people just stare!

What ever happen to the saying, "shit happens"?

I kind of understand how you can feel a little pissed off but buyers remorse? Although I can not predict the cause it was most likely a dead battery. This problem even happens to "luxury" cars as well.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Normally you start the car, then power down the windows... strange.... do tell what the problem was

My car is back in the dealership for the seventh time since the beginning of March 2010. Orginally, my problems started with the XM radio not keeping the signal. I then started to notice the Display Screen going blank while I was driving which shut off the FM radio and the Navigation... and the XM Radio still not fixed. They are now dealing with loosing the sound from the FM radio, XM radio and the bluetooth system.. my cellphone.
I love the car... hate the problems and feel like the dealership is terrible. Has anyone else had problems... or a lemon like this? Can you tell me what to do now... in Georgia.

It seems when the DIS/Amp/Bluetooth really messes up its bad resulting in many trips to the dealer... I wonder if this is a larger problem than we see here on this forum, or maybe it isn't such a problem and we only find people to come here when they have a problem?

Either way, if your car has visited the shop 7 times for the same problem check your lemon laws where you live. If you really don't want to go through that whole thing, threaten them with it and tell them you want a brand new DIS/Amp... not a refurb. I think they only swap out with refurbished ones.

You seem a very patient person returning to the dealership for the 7th time. I, for one, would have requested a replacement after the second or third visit. Have you tried contacting the Regional management to assist?

I ,too, have a dead battery on a two month old 2010 Genesis. The dealer treats it as just one of those things. I had it flat bedded and all they found was a weak cell in the battery. They charged it and would not consider replacing the battery as they didn't get a "code number"! These guys are not mechanics, they are computer screen readers. If the computer doesn't tell them what's wrong, they haven't a clue.

I have a clue. A two month old battery with a weak cell is a Defective battery and Hyundai would return it to the manufacturer if the dealer had any sense. I told him to expect another flatbed bill in a short time. We have good cause to be pissed!

I'd be pissed too if it was a defective battery and they just charged it up and said here ya go. Let us know how you make out.... If possible, let your car sit for a couple days and see what happens...

Well, I hope this is the right way to issue an update:
The car was taken to the dealer, Ladin in Thousand Oaks, CA.
Naturally, it started right up, leading me to expect the dreaded intermittent electrical problem. They kept it for two days, consulted engineering, etc., and concluded that somehow my wife had put the car into safe mode, perhaps by hitting the start button a couple of times without having put her foot on the brake. She's been driving it now for three days without incident. When they gave it to her, they walked her through it. (She wasn't there for the intro when I bought the car).
Hyundai said the remedy to the "problem" was to just let the car sit for a little, then try again. I don't really know what to make of this. I've never owned a car that you could start wrong. So... I guess what the takeaway here is that you have to follow the start sequence precisely, or you'll have to sit in the driveway.
In any event, a very fine car. The wife has had it since we bought it, and I've taken it to the store once. Not to blame her, but my wife--brilliant though she actually is--has been able to perform remarkable feats of destruction with computers and various household appliances. She may have indeed pressed various things in a perfect sequence so as to disable the vehicle. Thank you all for your input on this. I hope this update clarifies matters.
And Ladin was very good in their response. I was 400 miles away at the time, and though I hope I wasn't rude, I was probably not thoroughly understanding. They were very professional and thorough and friendly, even gave my wife a loaner (not a Genesis).

This part is funny!

I've never heard of a "safe mode" before for the Genesis. Maybe if you hit the start button quickly more than 3 times or something like that? Or possibly pressing and holding in the start button for more than, lets say 5 seconds?

I think, if you are driving and a emergency arises you can press and hold the start button to shut the engine down.... I've never tried this but I should... You never know when you're going to get ghost riding car!

We had the first problem today- Our Genny has a little less than 1500 miles on it. When my wife got into the car this morning to go to work, she pushed the start button and got a message that said "key not found." (yes, she had the fob in her possession). The car has power so the battery's not dead but neither fob does anything to start the car.

Called the dealer and they thought the key might have "lost its signal." In any case, they told me to call roadside assistance and now the car is on its way to the dealer...

Did you try the following:

Quote: " If the battery is weak or the smart key does not work correctly, you can start the engine by inserting the smart key into the smart key holder".

Yep. It was the second thing I tried. Nothing happens with either fob. One fob battery going bad....maybe. BOTH going bad? Nah!
