Just heard back from my genesis dealer. They ordered the replacement trim due to the severity of the discoloration and my warranty expiring in a few weeks. He said they are doing me a solid and going straight for the replacement vs. polishing and going back n forth with genesis Corp. I just hope it last a little longer this time. I’m considering doing the clear wrap and hoping for the best.

Here we go. Curious as to y’all’s thoughts. I think it looks pretty good. Definitely better than the discoloration crap going on. But these types of things generally take a while to grow on me. The more I see it the more I’m starting to like the look. Just sucks that I had to do it to begin with.

I think your car really looks great with the blacked out trim. Just my opinion.

I dropped it off Monday morning and they had it ready Wednesday morning. They warranty the work for a year. They estimate the wrap will last 3-5 years. Not sure what to expect with it. If in three years it starts failing, I might take it off and have them just redo the windows. The Genesis dealer said they’ve been taking the cars to a body shop and having them powder coat the pieces — but that would likely be thousands of dollars, so I’m not really interested in that. If I need to do a $400 window wrap in a few years, so be it.

They didn’t seem to think the heat would be a problem. They told me to leave it in the direct sun to help it really adhere. They did say to avoid automated car washes.

Yes, I still really like it. It has been holding up great. The only complaint I have is the front Genesis emblem is starting to scratch a little bit and showing the chrome underneath. I was thinking of buying this and replacing it:

I notice that the dark chrome trim around the doors starting to discolor. I see spots everywhere on the chrome. Pieces started to look like it was from a 15 year old car.

Is anyone is having this issue? This is a WTF moment.

I had the same issue on my 20 G80. Dealer replaced it and it happened again. I've been using my own time, products to try to get it back to good. Some areas have stayed nice, just lighter color, but others have discolored again.

We had the same thing on our 2022 GV70. We started noticing it about 1 year after purchase and was very evident 6 months later. I tried a number of polishes and finally found the one that worked amazingly well. Use Brasso 7 metal polish….it is like new and does not harm the paint!!!

For some reason I could not add text to the above image. What I found worked on my trim was Mother's chrome polish. This is probably very similar to Brasso. I tried the Griot's water spot remover and PlastiX polish which did not work. With a lot of elbow grease my trim looks new. I applied some ceramic wax after I was done so fingers crossed. Even Motor Trend commented on this issue in their long term wrap-up of the GV70. They said the dealer told them it was their fault for using car washes. Dumb statement. I can assure you our GV70 has never seen a car wash outside of my driveway and my hands.

Did you happen to take before and after pix? I’ve read that some products remove the matte finish. Does brasso 7 do that? Thanks!

No I did not. The trim looked like it had water spots all over it. The Mother's chome polish left the trim bright and shiny. It works best when it is wet so I would do this in the shade or garage. It does take some elbow grease and a microfiber cloth. You rub the water spots, or whatever it was, away. This was part of a detail so the trim was waxed with the rest of the car.

Been a lurker for a long time, but recently been giving some love to my 2018 Genesis G80 Sport after buying it used last year. I wanted to share my results to hopefully help out others.

Last week, I polished out the whole car, and yesterday I tackled the window trim. I had them replaced last year under the 5year/60000 used car warranty by the dealer for free. The trim along with the rest of the car was coated with tuetlewax graphene flex spray wax. Within a few months they were already showing watersports and a year and 4 months after in Houston weather, they were looking pretty rough, especially along the driver's side front and rear window. The c-pillar twins were doing pretty good with light waterspots.

As some before recommended, it just took some brasso, 1.5 hours of elbow grease, and some microfiber towels to get everything back to shiny. See attached photos (screenshots from video since I can't upload video. Don't judge my b-pillar wrap, they were severely scratched beyond polishing when I purchased the car so I wrapped it myself).

Very happy with the results, yes the trim is a little lighter, but when comparing to my mostly pristine c pillar trim, I didn't notice a huge difference, just a tinge lighter in the sunlight. I protected them again with the tuetlewax flex spray wax, which I'm hoping will help because the underlying trim surface isn't as sensitive as the factory dark finish coating.

Some tips for those wanting to try this on their own discolored trim:
1. Tape off the paint around the trim. Don't worry too much about the brasso polish getting into the rubber around the trim because it wipes of pretty easily and doesn't stain (at least in the few hours that it sat on my car). I just gave the car a wash after, giving special care to the trim areas with a detailing brush to get into the rubber moulding. I would highly recommend you do the same.

2. Use lots of brasso. You need a good layer of brasso in between the towel and the trim. Just having some brasso absorbed into the microfiber towel didn't do too much for me. The towel should glide on the surface with the help of brasso. This makes everything come off much quicker. It also helps to keep a spray bottle of water and lightly mist the towel every few applications of the brasso.

3. Hit the trim from all angles. Once you get the discoloration and waterspots off, you have to commit and get to the bare aluminum because otherwise you are left with areas that are darker than others. Look at the trim from every angle in good lighting to make sure you're getting to the base layer.

I hope this was helpful, I'll try and answer any questions in a timely manner.

I had the same thing with my brand new G70 sport Launch addition. I took it to the dealer, and they said they needed to try and clean it up first and if that did not work, they would be replaced for free. The cleaning did not work and just got mine back from the dealer last week with brand new window trims. This is a known issue with Genesis concerning sport trim.

You are correct, I am rubbing off the tint layer, but the difference is not as noticeable as I initially worried. The base layer is very slightly lighter than the tint layer, but not to a degree where it stands out as obviously different shades than the door handles or grill. You have to know exactly what to look for to know a difference. I would much rather have this than the water-spotted, peeled, dull finish that existed before.
If you have the option to get it replaced from the dealer, then it is worth a try only if you are prepared to either ceramic coat (this is a maybe) or clear wrap the trim as soon as you get the car back. Also keep in mind that when I had mine replaced at the dealer, they f**ked up a lot of the rubber molding around the trim, broke a few clips on the drivers side trim, and scratched the driver's side door window in the process. I would not trust them to do a good job without freaking anything up again.

Thanks for the input! Good to know that ceramic coatings can protect them, I guess the Tuetlewax Graphene flex spray wax didn't achieve quite the protection. However, in all other aspects I am very happy with the spray: great sheen, slickness, and hydrophobic properties that last several months.
