2009 Genesis V8 Magnaflow Cat-Back (16497) HD VIDEO

I'm getting my exhaust installed Saturday. What size washers did you guys use for lateral bracket. How many in total was used as well. Thanks a million.
AshDump, it will probably take about 1/2 inch of washers for the exhaust to clear the black lateral support bracket. The guy a PepBoys used a hex nut with washers on both sides so it was like using a spacer. Magnaflow should mfg and send with the kit 4 spacers/lock washers and 4 longer bolts to replace the original ones. But I'm sure wherever you have it installed they will find something to use.(make sure it is SS so it doesn't rust)
Take a look at my photos I posted with a close up of the bracket. The mechanic only spaced one side but I think it would be better to do both, not that anybody is going to crawl underneath to look :D Cheers

Just ordered mine using the "stimulus" code...
I had to talk fast at performancepeddlers.com to squeeze that code out of them. Glad it is still in active, good luck and enjoy it when you get it installed .

I got her installed and loving every minute of it. I haven't had much time to mess around, but I will be later on tonight. A quick spin on the highway revealed a very tolerable noise. The only loud part of the exhaust is when you take off.... but that is to be expected.

DubaiRich is probably drooling right about now!!!!

Drooling is an understatement!! I went out and started my 540i with a custom Fox exhaust just to get things under control!!!

Well, I was filled with hope when I purchased my system, and now that it's finally installed, I am filled with disppointment.

In my opinion, Magnaflow really missed that mark with the system. The droning is incessant in all gears until you drive at a steady speed, then it tapers off...slightly. The slightest exceleration and it's back loud and clear. Maybe my idea of the system was to have the throaty sound build and them taper off...this just stays on and on. I recently heard a Maserati Quatroporte, and the sound was amazing when he stepped on it. I see the Genesis as a Luxury/sport, but this muffler is all sport...which is not what I want.

I will probably take it off or have the muffler shop provide a "detuned" set up. Most likely you will see it for sale very soon at a very competitive price.

Oh NO!!! To bad it didn't work out for you. If you take it off there is someone on this forum that will buy it for $400. If you're interested let me know and I'll PM you his name.

good to know. I'll definitely PM you on that

I put mine on Friday and love the sound. I could not believe the difference in performance. It is quicker.

What do you think, did you gain around 200 hp??:D

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Weird people don't really mention performance gains.

This is because there are not any gains noticable. I will keep it short....Computer controlled cars won't gain power from Exhaust or CAI's until the ECU is reprogrammed. On the other hand, Carbed cars would gain performance.

so even if i'm looking at getting a custom air intake done it won't make any difference until i reprogram the ecu?

Sure thing - actually the seat of the pant test tells me that the car is quicker off the line. Obviously there is less back pressure and weight. The computer, when it recycles recognizes changes and adjusts for them. I like the sound and I can't complain about the performance.

If you haven't already removed your Magnaflow, you may want to consider replacing the X-pipe it with Magnaflow's X-pipe muffler. I don't know the model number but my exhaust guy showed it to me and said it would quiet it down quite a bit. It's essentially just the X-pipe wrapped up within a muffler so you still get the performance benefit of the pipe but in a quieter package.

I have the Magnaflow on my 3.8 and there is definitely quite a bit of drone especially while at low speed, low RPM. It's cool sounding and all but can drive you a little crazy after a while. If I was still 19 years old, it would be great!

What do you think about removing the resonators?

Depends on what you are looking for. Removing the resonators will make the car sound louder but what will it actually sound like with the stock mufflers? If you want something that's a bit more throaty sounding than stock but isn't too loud, then stay away from the Magnaflow. Maybe instead, leave the resonators on and replace just the mufflers. That's what I was originally going to do but my exhaust guy said that for the price I found for the Magnaflow, which was about $660 with free shipping, I might as well get the whole setup which included the nice offset tips on the mufflers and also had mandrel-bent piping and an X-pipe. He told me that buying just the mufflers with similar tips by themselves would be a few hundred dollars or more as it is so why not get the cat-back and go from there?

I will probably be quieting down my exhaust by installing a Magnaflow Tru X-pipe muffler in place of the current X-pipe. I'm going to drive it as is for maybe a couple of months to see how the carbon build-up in the mufflers changes the sound but I don't think there's any getting rid of the drone sound without making the change above.

It sounds pretty cool right now but hey, this is a luxury car and I would like to carry on a conversation especially like on a date or something without the drone of the Magnaflow oozing in and out with every RPM change! Maybe it's just me and that I'm finally growing up or at least growing old! Doubtful, but maybe!

thanks for the advice.
I think I'm just gonna change the mufflers and keep the tips.

Man I just installed mine a few days ago and I'm kinda dissapointed. I know this is a luxury car but I was looking for some nasty sound, like I've seen in a video on here of a blacked out genesis. I know its all relative but to me its too quiet and not raspy enough, honestly kinda makes it sound like a V6. I'd on the lookout for someone with a borla kit so I can listen in person. Probably gunna have these mufflers cut out and replaced with some flowmasters lol!
