It’s tricky but the motor should slide out of the small metal frame.
Page 1, posts #1 &3 have pictures to do exactly that. You DO NOT cut any wires. And nothing on aftermarket. You can always scour junkyards on-line for mirrors or Ebay. tones of oem out there original and cheap.Maybe I'm the only one - but I removed all the screws and could not find any way to get to the motor without cutting cables or damaging stuff. I have a 2015 5.0 with no tweeter - and removing it, the mirror, and all the screws was not too hard - yet I see no way to get the motor out. I've read this thread through a few times and viewed all the photos.
Hope I can put it all back together and get it back on - will be working on that the rest of today.
Are there after-market side mirrors that I can purchase in carbon-fiber finish that will work with the blind-spot indicators (I don't care about the memory-feature) that anyone can recommend? Replacing the mirrors would be easy - I figure carbon-fiber finish would match my car better and not have to worry about paint-matching.
Thanks for the reply BarryG - I actually tried a few times after finding out the cost for OEM replacment ($500) and was finally able to fenangle the wires enough so that I could get the motor/cover out enough and I was able to replace the gear. Now have to get it all back together - a few connectors came loose that I'm not 100% sure where they were... got frustrated and did NOT take enough pictures as I went along. Will update after and and try to answer questions if anyone else with 2015 5.0 Ultimate has as much trouble as I did getting to the motor.Page 1, posts #1 &3 have pictures to do exactly that. I purchased used mirrors off Ebay twice. One for 45 and the other for $70. Purchased because my shells paint went to hell. Both mirrors worked fine and were in alot nicer shape paint wise. I ended up using my repaired by me innards with the replacement shells. I can completely remove disassemble and reassemble in about 10 minutes. The differences between the photos availalbe and what I have were big enough to confuse me... just not enough experience with this kind of stuff..

Another successful repair. 2012 R-spec. Thanks for the thread and the pix.
I didn't pop the glass back in upon completion nor the bottom access cover. I used painters tape to hold the glass in the frame. Then plugged it in to make sure it worked and I didn"t screw up. Then removed it to pop the glass and the cover on, then fully installed it. Those two were the hardest to remove, so I only wanted to do it once.
to remove the plastic cover I used a suction cup. phone repair suction pull. i didn't scratch it nor need to pry it.So I had to change out my mirror gear and figured I would do a write up on it since it seems to be a fairly common issue as these cars age. This is for those experiencing the clicking when trying to fold/unfold power mirrors. I tried my best to get as many pictures as possible, admittedly I did miss a couple but this should help for the most part. Enjoy the windows paint art.

Tools needed:
10mm deep socket or wrench
phillips screwdriver
step 1: Remove trim from around the window

To do so you need to first remove the little push clip at the front of the door

Once that push pin is removed you can just pull on the bottom corner and run your fingers around the edge and it should easily come off. Be careful if you have a tweeter there as there is a connection to remove.\

Once that connection is disconnected you should have that trim piece free

Once that is done you can now remove the mirror from the car itself. Start by undoing the 3 nuts using a deep well 10mm socket, or a wrench. Then undo the plug.

Once the mirror is out find yourself a nice place to work, I would recommend a rag or paper towel to put the mirror on to keep from scratching it.
Next you will need to remove the mirror itself from this assembly, I turned my mirror all the way to the left and then pried from the right side. Be careful as you don't want to break the glass. If you didn't turn the mirror before hand (like me) just plug it back in and do it.

Once the mirror is popped free there are a couple connectors on the back to undo, this doesn't have to be done, but it made the job easier once I did it because I didn't have an extra piece flopping around in my way.

Next you will need to remove the plastic trim Its just 3 phillips screws and some prying, I started on the same side as the screws. Again be careful as to not break anything

Next you need to go to the underside of the mirror, I don't have a great picture of this but you will understand when you see it. There is a cover (1) that needs to be removed to gain access to more screws(2). The screws are already removed in this photo. Im not sure the best way to remove this cover personally, I used a pick but still managed to scratch it a little bit. On the bright side its on the bottom of the mirror and no one should see it.

no, i specified it pretty clearly. i used a phone repair suction cup for replacing the phone screens. it was small enough and with barely any effort it just popped off w/ the suction puller. it isn't an idea i am throwing out here. i actually did it and that was my answer to that problem.Did yours get damaged or did it fail? Sorry for the late post on how I solved my lack of hortizontal mirror movement. After trying many items to avoid removal and disassembly, I bite the bullet and opened up the passenger side mirror again. Upon closer examination of the mirror moving base, I found that my original mirror glass removal separated the two parts of the mirror movement assembly a fraction of an inch (original inspection of this area should have looked under the mirror attaching base more closely). This separation allowed one of the fingers to just catch on the opposing halve of the mirror movement assembly. This locked the mirror base onto one angle and the edge of the plastic finger cracked a small piece of the lower half (probably due to excessive force trying to free up the mirror mounting base). Once I pulled the finger around the edge of its lower half, the mirror movement assembly moved easily without any power to the motor / gears.Not starting a new thread on a subject repair area that many owners already have contributed too in this thread.
I just replaced the broken gear in my sister's 2015 Genesis Sedan. I wished I reviewed the posts about the minor 2015 differences that owners posted previously but did not and I had a few surprises. However, after installing the repaired passenger mirror assembly, I could NOT get the Horizontal movement of the mirror to work. I orginally placed the mirror with the right outside edge at the end of it's travel to allow me to place my fingers behind the right edge of the glass to pull it off. I thought it came off without excessive force and did not notice any unusal positions of the mirror motor other than it was titled with the right edge out as placed by my positioning the mirror for finger-pulling access.
So currently, I can move the mirror ONLY a slight travel up and down (vertical axis) and it will NOT move either direction of right or left in the horizontal plane. Visually the mirror glass is contained by it's post repair location by being too close to the left edge of the trim ring. This corner position also constrains the vertical movement of the mirror. I can hear the mirror motor click when I try to switch direction of travel but there is no movement to return the glass mirror to a less extrreme postion.
Does anyone have any experience after doing the folding gear replacement resulting in an essentially a "stuck mirror motor" position with the right edge of the passenger mirror being too far out (aft) and NO miirror horizontal (left or right) command funtioning?
Lol, can you still disassemble and reassemble in 10 minutes? I'm also in socal and both my mirrors internal gear have broken, been dreading doing this.
