If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Free Map Update Is Here!!!!!!!

I called the map software company a few days ago and asked why my new 2011 model has a map that is missing streets in my city that have been there for more than 3 years.

He indicated the dealers all have the latest disks sent to them about 2 months ago (purchased my car about a month ago). He offered to call my Service Manager and advise them the disks are for the 2011 models as well, and my car should have been updated before delivery.

My Service Manager called and said Hyundai approved a "courtesy" upgrade of my nav software.

I recently went to Keffer Hyundai in Charlotte for a map update for my 4.6 '09 Genesis. I see no indication that the stored locations, phone numbers, station settings, etc. were erased. I see no indication that the maps are updated.

That being said, how can I actually determine the current state of my software release?

Go into your Navi info - then go to Navi information. It will list a bunch of info, but look at the Software date. Should be 4/30/2010 if the install was a success.

April is not the latest update. That date is the current one in my car.

I spoke to the rep. from the mapping company and he indicated a newer version is dated in September.

I am getting it installed free in my 2011 V8 tomorrow since the disks were delivered to my dealer a month before I took delivery. I will post the actual version number when it's completed.

I traded in my 2009 for a 2011 4.6, do I have to do the NAV update or it's allready done?
Somebody know what's the updated it firmware number?
thanks...

I finally got around to installing the 2nd Edition of the Mapping Software Update that Map-n-Soft sent me. This after the original 3-Disc Update I purchased from my dealer (no free updates for Canadian Genesis owners) kept failing on install.

Anyway the new Update has 4 DVD's just like the US Version although it is Clearly labelled "CANADA" on the discs. It came with no instructions but I had downloaded the US instructions from a link somebody posted on this forum so I followed those. I hooked up a battery charger to avoid running the engine for 4 hours. Everything went just fine and the new software loaded with no problems. When I talked with the Tech at Map-n-Soft to get the Authentication code, he said they had experienced no problems with the new version that I had. So far I have encountered no issues with the Navi/Radio/CD operation. The Software is dated September 2010.
Now if I could just figure out how to upload my Nokia Phone Contacts list...........

++++UPDATE ON MY MAP SOFTWARE UPGRADE++++

Beware, you may experience the same issue I had at the dealership. My car was at the dealership for 4 days due to the following issue. Of course, as a Genesis owner, I received a free loaner car...

The dealer attempted to upgrade the map software on my 2011 V8 model and the head unit froze up. There is no way to "Ctl-Alt-Delete-Reboot" once this occurs.

When they went into the parts system to order a new head unit on Thursday it was already back-ordered and I am #22 in line. This apparently is a growing problem of freezing up on the new map software upgrade.

In the meantime, the dealer removed a head unit from another 2011 V8 until the one on order comes in with the latest map software already installed.

On a positive note, I did get to sit in the new Equus which was at the dealership for sales training...

I'm thinking a Genesis and an Equus would look great in my garage!!!

FINALLY got my nav system update.

April, 2010

cost breakdown:

software key: 144.00
labor (the one hour allotted) 126.00
Total 270.00

They will warranty the labor, I ended up paying the $144, but have arranged for a $144 service CREDIT.

KUDOS TO ABSOLUTE HYUNDAI IN MESQUITE!!!

What model year Genesis do you have?

I just spoke to Sun at the map software company. My map version starts with 3.00.00 and he said that is not the latest version.

There is a newer version for all 2010 and 2011 Genesis' with the tech pkg (non-touch screen).

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I had my 2009 tech package V6 done on 10/22/10 with DVDs right out of the mailing envelop at the dealer. I have the code: 3.00.00 and the april 2010 date. So far, I have seen map changes but I have not seen any software fixes. If this is not the latest version, my 12 hours at the dealership last Friday was painful and wasteful. Anybody know for sure, what is the latest software for the non-touch screen nav?

The new update dated in September is for 2010 & 2011 tech. models. Maybe if you have a 2009 you have to pay?

Not sure...

After my dealer kept insisting that there was no map update for the 2010 Genesis, I called Map & Soft and they are going to contact the dealer to confirm that there is and that the dealer has it. I have a 2010 W/Tech and it is my understanding that I only need the map update. Has anyone just had the map update done and if so how long did it take and how many disc were envolved just for the map update?

Check my previous response #147 in this thread for the information you are asking about.

Thank you but I think the problem they had with your car and some others is that they may have been trying to run all 4 disc as per the TSB for the 2009 and some 2010. Hyundai had already stated that if they tried to perform the TSB on cars that the TSB did not apply the system would crash.
It is my understanding that only 1 or 2 disc are needed for the map update alone. I will not have the update done unless I know that my dealer has performed it successfuly on other cars.

Anyone paid for the updates? I inquired with 2 dealers. One basically had no confidence in applying the updates, mentioned the radio may failed after the install. The other quoted 350. I have a 09 Genesis 3.8 and live in Dallas. I think this is too expensive. Any experience to share?

I just had the map update performed on my 2009 genesis 4.6 tech. The dealer had installed one of the free updates offered by Hyundai and said it went well, but was very unsure of the success of an install on a non-warrantied install/ update on mine that was not covered under the free update. He checked up the food chain within Hyundai and still came back to me with concerns which he either would not or could not define. I think Hyundai only allows the dealer to charge 1 hours labor to do the install which takes about 4 hours, and that may be one of the issues with them not wanting to do the work. I had to press the issue (nicely) to get the dealer to do the paid install, and he did. I asked him to do an oil change and wiper replacement while it was there to be nice. I am very happy to report that I now have the April 2010 map software and it works as it should.

I have read on this forum where a lot of Genesis owners have gotten their cars back with the address book wiped out and their phone numbers erased, but mine was not. I asked the tech if they manually put them back in and he said that they didn't have to. My blue-tooth phone was still paired as well.

This update also made a change on the ipod interface that allows for random play mode (not the greatest interface, but a random setting nevertheless), as well as fixed the weak stereo bass issue. I am happy that it went so well, and the cost was a total of about $280.00 give or take 25 dollars - I had some other service work done at the same time.

I just got my 2009 Genesis back from the dealer for the "P06" software and map update. They had the car for nearly six days and had all kinds of problems installing it. Mainly because the code required would not take. Finally after numerous calls to Hyundai, they got it done. The following are the changes I have noticed thus far:

1. POI map icons now show some company logos instead of generic-only icons.
2. When searching addresses, there is now a counter of possible matches. (At least I think this is new.)
3. "Random Play" function for iPods. It's a very weak implementation of this function but it's better than nothing. Unfortunately, it resets after the vehicle is shut off. (I really wish they would address the ultra-slow iPod scrolling. I recently drove a loaner 2009 Sonata that has way superior iPod control. Why can't we have that?!?!)
4. New maps. Dated 4-30-10.

Some other observations:

1. All map destinations, address book, phone book, and radio stations were wiped. All radio settings were restored to factory default. Had to reprogram all audio source EQs and settings.
2. I did not notice any difference in the audio but it has always sounded awesome.
3. When attempting to start the car without your foot on the brake pedal, there is now a graphic showing a foot pushing down on the brake pedal to start. (I'm pretty sure this is new as I never noticed it before.)

I didn't have to pay for anything but I think the dealer got charged $144 for the discs. At least that's what it indicates on the invoice.

Other than that, all is well so far. I really think Hyundai should offer the update free to all owners - not only to upgrade the factory-new outdated maps - but also for the software updates that should benefit everyone.

I dropped my car off this morning to get the map update. The dealer guy said, "My boss talked to me about the computer problems and told me to make it right with you." I'm thinking...what? Then I realize that after my last visit there I got a survey and I made good comments on everything but complained that the computers were bordering on non-functional (the guy couldn't even type for about 20 minutes last time...). So he said that the nav update was normally a paid thing, but that they'd do it for free under warranty. I thought that was pretty spiffin' of them. Hopefully they don't have problems doing the update.

MapNSoft says that the database update for the 2010 touch screen nav is now available. My dealer knows nothing, I'll try Hyundai.
