If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Car Dealerships (Freestanding)

So a one time deal with one dealer?
One dealer, that was the worst instance, but they were never great. I was not infatuated enough with the brand to buy another anyway. There are a few brands that I have no interest in owning in spite of the strong following they have. Personal preference, just as I don't like Rocky Road ice cream.

I personally dont think the German buyers are even looking at a Genesis vehicle as an option.
I personally think they do and I see that there are posts on this forum that substantiate this. Anyone else?

Here we go again...

It was a dealer in MA a few years back. I had issues with GM dealers too.
OTOH, I've owned seven Hyundai/Genesis cars from three different dealers and have had no problems.

You may have expectations for some brands, but the tag on the door does not mean the guys in the service bay meet expectations. Same goes for the sales experience. I've walked out of dealers.
This is very true, unfortunately.
Terrible, actually.

The purpose of this thread is only to compile a list of freestanding Genesis dedicated stores operating in the U.S., that each have all of the following minimum attributes:

1.) Separate freestanding non-mobile building(s) dedicated for Genesis sales, parts, and service.
(might be located adjacent to, but not attached to, stores or service facilities of other brands)
2.) New vehicles offered are exclusively Genesis models. (might sell used vehicles of other brands)
3.) Performs service on site for Genesis vehicles. (might not always have valet and/or loaner service)

Here’s the initial list:

CA
GENESIS SANTA MONICA1100 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, 90401424-268-8087
LA
GENESIS OF LAFAYETTE6600 Johnston St, Lafayette, 70503877-856-2961
VA
GENESIS OF SOUTH RICHMOND9530 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, 23235804-521-0200

If you know of additional dealerships that might qualify for this list, please post the dealership name and zip code for consideration.
Genesis of Minneapolis
8855 Wayzata Blvd, Golden Valley, MN 55426

Just bought a GV80 3.5T Prestige from them. Great place.

I'm not impressed with Genesis of Plano, north side of Dallas TX.

Sewell is unique. I've had the best service at that series of dealerships. Sewell Infiniti of Dallas, and recently Sewell of Grapevine for a new 330i.

They are right on their TV commercials.. "I don't know what my next car will be, but it'll be a Sewell".

We visited Genesis of NW San Antonio in early Sep to check out the 26 G70 models. This is a newly constructed and very professionally run stand alone Genesis dealership and part of the Red McCombs Group. SWMBO wanted a G70 Prestige in White with Vanilla Beige interior and we put a deposit on, and then purchased, the exact car that was being delivered later in the month. No pressure tactics and everyone, including our salesperson Ruben Calderon, was helpful and professional. I was also impressed with their service department and advisors.

In what everyone seems to say is a declining auto market that has to be a tough business decision . To build a luxury dealership for a brand that is really not established yet

Warren

Those which have built standalone dealerships in big markets are doing well.

The problem was that there never were supposed to be 300+ "Genesis dealerships" affixed to Hyundai stores, but that was the end result of the lawsuit by Hyundai dealerships.

Agreed
I personally didnt think the brand would ever take off sold out of a Hyundai dealer...I stated as much years ago in this forum
That luxury vehicle experience is very important, in the US anyway

One has to recall, as well, that by this time in their existence Lexus was flying high

Warren

That's why the plan was for around 100 standalone dealerships, which btw, we're getting close to that number.

Again, there was basically no other option but to launch the OG Genesis sedan under the Hyundai marque.

I am going to say I would love to get the same level of service as I had from Sewell Lexus ( Fort Worth Texas) on my Genesis G90

The other thing one has to take into consideration is what are the expectations of the client base
If you are coming from Mercedes/BMW/Lexus( or frankly any luxury brand) it stands to reason that you have higher expectations to start with.
Based on your personal experiences you likely have expectations of what you consider par for the course

If someone is moving up from a Hyundai(or any non-luxury brand) they probably are willing to accept less and/or have different expectations of what is par for the course

Warren

Quality of service has more to do with the ownership group than whether there is a dedicated store or not no matter the brand (whether there are certain amenities are another matter) -as larger auto groups own numerous brands.

Even for Lexus, there have been complaints about poor service (albeit not as much as for others, much less from a Hyundai dealership selling Genesis).

I use Lexus as an example since I see that brand as a similar demographic versus the German buyers. I personally dont think the German buyers are even looking at a Genesis vehicle as an option.

Warren

Au contrite - these days more likely to see German buyers considering Genesis than Lexus.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I was at the Genesis of Golden, CO dealership and they informed me that a new Genesis Dealership is being planned for Broomfield, CO. Here is the Broomfield City Council page on the project:

4101 Industrial Lane - Genesis Dealership

What specific Mercedes dealer was it?

I have owned a few Mercedes /BMW's
I am going to say that Park Place Mercedes in Dallas( E class and S class serviced here), Crown Mercedes in Dublin Ohio( S class serviced here) and Midwestern BMW( 7 series and 3 series convertible serviced here) were a lot better than my experiences at Bob Stalling Hyundai ( Dallas Texas) where I bought the Hyundai Equus and the latest absolute fiasco with Penske Genesis( G90 serviced here), which I would never return to again
I have only been to Genesis of Carmel once for an oil and filter change...so I will reserve my opinion for suture visits

As I posted already..the service at Sewell Lexus in Fort Worth Texas with my mother's LX570 was exemplary

But again..I have to say my expectations of a luxury dealership are based on the service I received at various Mercedes and BMW dealers in a few states

I was a BMW owner before I traded my 530e for a GV60P. I would have stayed with BMW if they hadn't gotten so unnecessarily ugly (there is absolutely no reason to put the ugly grilles on an EV). I do say that I had much better experiences at the BMW dealership than I have had at my Genesis dealership. However, my good experiences were at a Penske BMW dealership and my Genesis dealership is locally owned. I see that you had horrible experience at a Penske Genesis dealership. So it looks like it comes down to a location by location issue irrespective of brand.

Hey, Does any one know if the Fort Myers, FL Standalone Genesis dealer opened up? I saw it on a list the other day, but I can not confirm it anywhere.

According to Penske Genesis in Noblesville Indiana,

Their 28% ish percent markup over MSRP for factory parts was a "corporate policy" . This came from the service manager

So..I would watch any Penske dealership...especially a luxury brand ...to see if they charge OVER MSRP for parts

I am thinking that most people dont even check what the dealership is charging for parts when they their car is in for service

The only reason I caught it was I looked it up when they gave me the quote..BEFORE they even knew I had an extended warranty
Then I saw the paperwork where the warranty company only paid MSRP. The same figure that came up for me when I looked the part up online

I am also going to guess that this type of thing is not isolated to Penske.
The other funny thing here is they charge a higher labor rate for Genesis than Hyundai service. The franchises are in the same lot/same building on either side of the service department

Same techs, same service department with higher rates on Genesis than Hyundai This includes Equus sedans at the higher rate

If am going to pay higher I am going to a free-standing dealership with its own everything, including a higher level of service

I live in louisville Ky and a new stand alone was just built and finished about 1 month ago, but right next to a H dealership. Bring the G70 to the dealership on Friday.

We are building a Standalone Genesis store in Knoxville, TN to be completed end of March. Looking forward to selling the brand.

Just got a call cancelling my warranty work on my '22 GV70 from Rocklin (CA) Genesis. They are shutting down totally tomorrow. Bummer for the folks there, and for all Sacramento area owners. The next closest dealership is in Dublin, CA, which is a 90 mile drive and a 2 hour drive in normal traffic.

One would think they would make arrangements for situations like yours to go to a Hyundai dealership
In my opinion, Hyundai didnt get the dealership situation settled from the very start to handle Genesis

They should have followed the Toyota playbook with how they handled the rollout of the Lexus brand in the United States
As I posted here at least 7-8 years ago...you need a luxury dealership to sell luxury cars in the United States

Wow. We have gone through two Genesis dealers in a year... Rocklin had a total change of management once and its only been open a year. I have not been near that old Camping World they took over. Do you know if construction started?

I bought from Dublin and when Roseville lost the Genesis brand, Dublin was willing to valet my car. That is a 112-mile drive one way.

My lease return is in September so I do not care if its gets serviced again. When service is due I will contact Dublin and if they want to come out great, if not it’s a Genesis problem. I guess I will have to lease return to Dublin.

Easy to see that looking back, but we have no idea of the original intentions when they started to produce high end models. Franchise laws was one of the biggest obstacles to overcome.

Hyundai has changed a lot over the years too. Going back to the late 80s and into the 90s, I used to laugh at the brand and faded paint on their cars. Now I'm on my 7th variation.

I think we can assume Hyundai's intent was to sell vehicles and create a brand in the United States.

Anyone that thinks they can sell luxury vehicles in the United States, without a luxury vehicle experience, needs to hire better consultants. Those are clearly the table stakes

Not sure what franchise laws you mean specifically...Toyota rolled out Lexus with 65 dealers in September 1989 with 2 vehicles in their lineup.
HUGE and EXPENSIVE risk that was and they knocked it out of the park.

Clearly Toyota was a known entity, but not for luxury vehicles.
But that is a clear sign that Toyota, and most all vehicle brands, have changed over the years to suit buyer needs, market conditions and of course to grow and be profitable

That would be the laws that prevented them from opening Genesis dealerships.

Hyundai took a different path than Toyota. They sold the Genesis model by Hyundai dealers and wanted to shift to stand alones. They could not do that. Toyota started with the Lexus brand from the start.

Easy to be critical, but neither of us was in the boardroom meetings
