  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Car Dealerships (Freestanding)

Nice! Lucky you. I've been waiting like three years for a supposed dedicated Genesis dealership to even break ground in my area. It's the only way I'll even consider owning another one, since the "service" I've gotten at the Hyundai dealer is beyond horrible.
Yes, definitely a step up.
I remember when I brought the car in for the 6k oil change. The service advisor asked about rotating the tires. I was like,..."what?!?! LOL It's a G70 3.3t. You can't rotate the tires because of the staggered tire set up." I made sure to tell him twice before he brought the car to the Hyundai dealership a few buildings away and of course, checked them all before leaving.

Today, I pull right into the 2 car lane bay. I mentioned not to do the rotation of the tires and my service advisor replied, "It's a G70 3.3t. We can't rotate the tires because of the staggered set up."
Just that alone put my mind at ease.

Maybe not rotate, but side to side.

I’m new here, but hopefully this thread is the appropriate place to get the dealer information I need. I’m in the Ellicott City, Catonsville, Maryland area and looking for a dealer recommendation. From the Genesis website, the only dealers that are shown as Premier or EV are 30 miles or more from me. Not certain what those two designations mean. There are several Hyundai dealerships within a reasonable distance, but researching them, I found really bad reviews. Almost all of the reviews I looked at were quite positive about the car (G70) but quite negative about service departments. Any recommendations from anyone here would be appreciated.

Do you already have your car and are you looking for a service location or are you looking to purchase a car and seeking a good dealership to do it? Either way...finding a decent dealership for service is important (you can purchase your car from a different dealership but some dealerships have been known, e.g., to limit loaners to those who bought from the dealership).

I think Genesis makes a great car but just in case you need a reliable dealership nearby. From what I have seen your choices do not appear to be attractive ones.

If you are looking for a dealership from which to purchase a car, then you might be better off looking at other brands. I compare it to surgeries. My hip doctor invented the least invasive least painful method. Others are being trained in and starting to use it. But I would rather have used a surgeon using one of the older methods who has done hundreds or thousands of them, than one using the new method who has only done 10. Is there a good dealership nearby for another brand with a somewhat comparable product (e.g., BMW 3 series; Mercedes C series; etc.)?

If you already have the car and are looking for service, my best suggestion is to pick one of the dealers with the bad review. Make an appointment to see the GM. Tell him you are looking for a dealership to service you and handle your future purchases. You have read some bad reviews but you know that sometimes they paint a false picture. See if you can get a commitment from him and a direct line to him if something goes wrong. See if you can incentive the dealership to give you excellent treatment as the exception to the rule.

Thanks for the reply. I have not yet purchased the vehicle. I’ve been a Subaru owner for over 20 years and the local dealer (to me) has been excellent in both sales and service. But I’m highly enamored of a Genesis as my next vehicle. However, not having a dealership and service department, especially for any warranty issues, that is well regarded gives me pause. I’ve dealt with a private garage for car service for 35 years and would go to them for non-warranty issues, but having a more convenient dealer connected service center that I have confidence in is very important. For now, unless I get a strong recommendation from someone for a Genesis dealer near me, I’ll just admire the cars from afar. Hopefully the situation changes by the time I really have to replace my current vehicle. Subaru is phasing out the sedan version of the car I currently have, so I wouldn't be purchasing another Subaru.

If you want a sedan your choices will be more limited than they used to be as many mainline manufacturers have ceased making sedans or plan to. See, e.g., Chevrolet and Ford). Honda and Toyota are still making and selling sedans. But they don't really compare to a G70. If you are or will be considering an electric car, Hyundai makes a pretty sweet one...the Ionic 6. So far, the luxury marques are still in the sedan business (Genesis, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Cadillac etc.) Again, if you go electric, then the Lucid Air becomes a viable alternative.

Not looking for an all EV at the present time. What I want, and have looked at, puts me in the Genesis, Acura, and Lexus range. Although the Toyota Crown Platinum Max appeals to me. All are in a similar price range but the G70 3.3 AWD has the most visual appeal for me with more features at very competitive price to the others, except maybe the Crown. But you’re right, sedans are being dropped by many marques. I had briefly looked at Infinitis and they no longer offer one. I prefer the Asian marques versus the German ones simply because I’ve owned a Subaru or Honda for the last 45 years.

I loved my three Infiniti’s. I had two coupes (G37S & Q60RS) and one Q50RS. It’s said they dropped them. I always wanted a G70 but they would never deal. I have a GV60P and love it but the dealership experience sucks. They’ve had my GV60P for over three weeks over a rear cargo mat issue. I am driving a G70 base model which I like but its way underpowered. Isn't Genesis dropping the G70 very soon?

I’ve not seen any indication of that, but with tariffs and other market forces present, they could conceivably do so. I certainly hope not; if I could find a dealer that I trust and be able to afford the version I want, I’d be in the showroom right now. Maybe only looking, but once you get your hands on something like this, the fever starts.

I have read for the past year or two that they are getting rid of it as well. But I see no sign of it anywhere else except for the car websites.

Horrible review of a South Florida Genesis dealership.
One Issue I face in my area, northwest of Baltimore, is there are no separate, independent Genesis dealers. The Hyundai dealers in the area have horrible reviews on every platform I can find: Yelp, dealerrater.com, Google, etc. One of my neighbors who has a Hyundai told me he’d had no complaints about the dealership he bought the car from. But it is only a couple years old, the car, not the dealer. But the reviews, both for service and sales, are very bad for it.

Another major problem is, when I checked with the service garage I’ve gone to for 35 years, they don’t service Genesis because they can’t get parts. The owner told me they could when Genesis was part of the Hyundai network. He said they rarely encountered any serious issues with the cars at that time. But now that Genesis is in the process of splitting the brand off from Hyundai they can no longer get parts, so they just tell people they can’t service them. All in all this has killed any enthusiasm I had about the cars. If the situation changes significantly in the future I’ll reconsider. But for now, I’ll stick with the established brands.

Has anybody (like Genesis?) done a map of Genesis dealers? Something as easy as that should be a no-brainer for Genesis. I’m planning a cross country USA trip later this year and I certainly would like to know where I can crash if I have any problems enroute.

Surprised that no one else has beat me to this, but Genesis of Plano (suburb of North Dallas, TX) has a stand-alone dealership and service area now. Before this, they were a few buildings away, part of Hyundai Plano.

I was there today, was surprised! Looks great...

Yup.

Looks very similar to the Genesis dealership where I bought my car at.
Genesis Of Braintree

Looks identical to the half dozen standalones I have been to. Mostly a waste of money and un-utilized resources that is only serving to drive up costs of the vehicles.

Yeah, but it's what people expect when buying a premium car. I bought my G80 at Hyundai of Plano before they had this new dealership. The experience was okay. A service though, felt very much like a Hyundai dealership - dirty floors, cheap plastic chairs.. it felt like the waiting room of a third world emergency hospital.

This new Genesis dealership is nice, soft leather furniture, free Wi-Fi and electric plugins where we can work, televisions, drinks, and snacks. I would have no problem dropping my car off for hours and quietly working there on my laptop.

I get what you are saying - but they are trying to play deep into a market segment that they don't actually fit in nor belong to (yet). I wont fill this thread with my endless ramblings about it - but I did make a couple of posts in another thread that go into a bit more (albeit ranting... lol) detail, if you are bored and so inclined to read it all :)

Think sales/ATP of the GV70 and GV80 say otherwise, and think a production version of the Gran Equator X can justify even higher pricing.

Now, for sedans, it's a different story, but aside from Mercedes and BMW, no one is selling sedans and even Merc and BMW are seeing drastically lower sales.

Genesis, unlike the Japanese or the domestics, aren't playing in the lower level of the lux market, so if anything, having a separate dealer network is even more important as buyers at the higher level aren't going to tolerate a mass market experience that buyers of tarted-up RAV-4s or H-RVs would.

Also, the price hike on the G80 also has to do with the much improved interior and all the added tech amenities.

The G70, being last of the "old school" Genesis models, is by far the best value in the lineup and yet that hasn't exactly resonated in sales.

Genesis buyers are more than willing to pay significantly more for the CUV bodystyle and significantly better interior as seen by GV70 sales.
