  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I got to fiddle with a real live Genesis. First impressions...

To the best of my knowledge, the driver and passenger seats are heated. Only the driver seat has the cooling option. Weird, but thats their offering.

Things are becoming more curious re: Genesis. Ed Voyles reports that while he was in training the instructor stated that they were having problems making the Cruise Control work properly, limited to that phase that will slow the car down without appying the brakes when the vehicle in front of the Genesis slows down.

The portion that is not working to Hyundai's satisfaction (not necessarily improperly) is regarding vehicles in surrounding lanes. The system functions properly, but that includes the minor annoyance of adjusting speed not only for vehicles in the same lane, but also for vehicles riding very close to the line in the lanes to either side in front of the car.

There is one other concern. I have recently come into possession of a Genesis brochure and it states that car has a cooled and heated drivers seat. It is stated in the singular and doesn't say that the front passenger seat is also heated. It simply says "drivers seat ". Ed, did you learn whether the passenger seat is heated? If not I am concerned. My wife has gotten used to having her tush warmed up in our Caddy. She would vigorously object to a Genesis if it lacked that feature. It probably has the feature, therefore they should better edit their brochure so as to not mislead readers. By the way our local Hyundai dealer told me that these brochures are available at most dealers. It is a teaser that does not have nearly the information that this forum and the Hyundai web site have, but it is better than nothing.

Passenger seat is heated, too. I presume you are talking about the black "It all starts with this" brochure. This brochure was meant to be a sneak-peek, a teaser trailer, if you will, meant to whet the appetite. They left out a lot of other features, too. But I assure you, the final brochure will list the heated front passenger seat as a feature, as well as all of the other features of the car. And the cooled seat works very well, BTW. It cools the back as well as the bottom of the seat.

Oh, and I am not Ed. :) Mr. Voyles died a few years ago. I am Frank, the Operations Manager for the Hyundai and Mitsu stores, at your service. ;)

Thank you. Yes, apparently there are heated seat(s). :) My wife always uses her heated seat because of back pains...

Hi Frank,

Thanks for clarifying the heated seat confusion. I will call my Dad tomorrow (well, it is Mother's Day) and make sure that he has seen your reply.

Ron

I visited my local Hyundai dealer yesterday to ask when the Genesis would be available. They said August. I asked if he meant for the V-8 and he told me that all models were held back until August. Have you heard that from Hyundai?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
As of last week, it was June or early July. I have read on some forums (edmunds, etc...) an August release date, but those posts were many months old. I will update as soon as I get any new info.

It's great to have Frank (EdVoylesHyundai) here to keep us in the loop. :) I do hope the Genesis didn't get pushed back to August...

Maybe they need a little more time to perfect this car. Like a few have said delay it a little bit if needed to work the kinks out. I'm sure many, like me, are anxious to sit in one and take it for a test drive.

Well, it seems that not everyone is as happy about it as we are. I got the cease and desist from HMA today. I can't share any more "new" information with you guys. Well, I could, but I like my job and wouldn't mind working for HMA someday, so I will bow to the man. :( I understand their reasons since the information is continually changing and whatnot. So I will do my best to stay involved and will for sure let you guys know when we will have one here for a sneak-peek and when they arrive in our inventory.

I guess the bright side to this equation is that there is someone at HMA that is actually reading the forums!!! So continue to voice your opinions on their products and hopefully they will hear us!

Frank

Darn. Too bad.. Well, since HMA knows about these forums, they must be pleased with the fact that we're all so interested.. I didn't think anything you told us could have hurt them in any way - but they know best...

Tell us what you can and nothing more. :p

Let's hope they are paying attention to the price points we have discussed.

1. If you want me to buy a Hyundai instead of a Lexus it must be priced right. Remember we pay attention to the overall purchase equation including resale value. Hyundai is NOT lexus. Give me a reason to buy your product instead of a proven luxory vehicle.

2. If you gonna put in a ventilated seat for the driver do the job right and ventilate the passenger seat as well.

3. It is my opinion that you, Hyundai, are poised to be the next Honda. Reliability isn't very sexy but will sell cars like no other. Just ask Toyota or Honda. And as far as the warranty... have you seen the movie "Tommy Boy"? The line goes something like this.

"Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me."

The other good quote from Tommy Boy. "Fat man in a little coat. Fat man in a little coat."

Exactly my point. Hyundai and Kia's quality may have been improved over the years, but their resale value is still lacking. Sure they DID improve, but it's just not enough as is so far. It is still a fact that number 1 factor that the customers buy Hyundai and Kia are their price and the long warranty. Percentage of people who buy Hyundais or Kias based on their quality is still far less than those who buys them because of price and warranty. Hyundai should be smart to price the Genesis low enough so they get the cars to notice by more people, not just the Korean people who may buy out of patriotism, but non-Korean people as well, whose so used to Lexus, Infinity and German brands. As I have said number of times, their first year sales may be a failure, which is NOT a surprice for any New cars that gets introduced for the first time. Even though Genesis has had a lot of hypes and attentions unlike any of their other models to date, but if the actual car isn't as good as the expectations, it won't succeed. If they are smart, they will price the Genesis low enough and pack in a bunch of equipment as a standard equipment that are normally offered as optional on more expensive, better known brands, and if they are hit, they can gradually raise the price little by little once their product gets recognized, like Lexus is doing these days.

Lots of good points being made here..

1. Hyundai definitely needs to make sure they're giving people a good reason to buy a Hyundai over a Lexus.. If the Genesis is going to cost the same as a Lexus ES350, it's going to be a hard sell. A Fully Loaded ULTRA Luxury Lexus ES350 costs $45k. I don't care HOW fast, HOW powerful or HOW RWD the Hyundai Genesis is - it's not going to outdo the Lexus ES 350 at anything but going fast. And how the F&$% fast do people in luxury family sedans need to go? I have a very bad feeling about this car topping out at $45k.

2. The ventilated seat.. That's the "big duh" as far as I'm concerned. Like Genesis X said - do the job right and ventilate the passenger seat as well. If Hyundai wants to play with the big boys - how is this supposed to look? Do you see Mercedes, Lexus or BMW (or ANYBODY) putting in a single cooled seated?! Maybe Hyundai wanted to be the first... :o

As GrandPrix08 mentioned - resale value is going to be a big factor... And he also mentioned how Lexus started off with amazing pricing and eventually raised their prices to the point where people don't want their cars anymore. :p heh. That IS actually happening with Lexus right now.

BUT ANYWAY. Hyundai should price the Genesis in the "no brainer zone" and slowly raise the price as it becomes a wanted car. Don't price it out of the "wanted" zone before it's even wanted yet......

Tommy Boy is a goldmine of great quotes. I love, "Bees! Bees everywhere! Your firearms are useless against them! Save yourselves!"

(Please pardon the thread tangent.)

You know at least the way it use to be if you pay less for a new car in the first place then of course the resale of say an Azera isn't going to be that of a Lexus.

Also, a few years ago I did a value comparison between a Sonata, impalla, stratus, and a taurus. What I did was got the resale value on all of them at 2 years old. For example today you would compare 2006 models, although I don't remember when they dropped the taurus. I equipped all of them as close as I could with the same option's. I got the used car values on all of them and then what they sold for new. I don't remember for sure but I think I used Kelly's Bluebook of maybe Edmunds.

The thing was the Sonata came in at third place as far as resale but guess what? Although now I don't remember which car cost the most I do know the Sonata was $3000.00 cheaper to buy than the higest priced new car and around $1800.00 cheaper than the lowest new car price of the big three. And yet the difference between high to low price in all the cars at 2 years old was around $800.00 so do a little math.

Oh sure the Honda and Toyota people will be beating on the drums after seeing this saying why didn't I compare them. Well I did but wasn't serious about buying one of those. But I can say that the Camry and Accord sold for way more money than the big three.
Now I'm not comparing quality from the big three to Toyota or Honda but you know when people cry about the resale value of a hyundai and if you look at the whole story and you spent less over all dollars from new price to resale price than all of the big three's cars then you would think all of those people would be crying about resale values to! Yet I don't hear about it nearly as often. I think if a person can't trully find anything wrong with Hyundai this is the easiest insult to come up with.

To many people like to only look at the past and are not focused on today. Today's Hyundai is getting a bum rap from the old Excel throw away cars. I say get over it, get real, and move on!

I do admit as Hyundai has become more and more popular their price difference has narrowed quite a bit to the competition. Just a reminder, I did this comparison 2 years ago and have no idea how things would compare now. Maybe I should have done that before sending this in. Oh well!

My 2 cents to Hyundai is I guess directed to the dealerships. MSRP may be at a reasonable price, but when the dealership gets their hands on it, can you say mark-up!!!! Dealerships may try and mark the price higher on the initial ones that come out, trying to get bidding wars on the cars. I can say that I will not participate in such nonsense; i'm there to buy a car, not be on an Ebay commercial. Also offering some sort of incentive to buy the car when they first come out would really help sales, like $1500 rebate on the first 10 at each dealership.

What Lexus did was actually let the first batch of LS400s off the boat sell at the lowest price. Each subsequent batch costed a bit more.. This made the initial reaction to the LS400 phenomenal. It would really be stupid if Hyundai did it backwards...

If Hyundai does it backwards they will have a bunch of Genesis sitting in their lots.

You can make the comparison to when the net was still young. ESPN had all of their content free, and USA Today charged a subscription. Nobody subscribed to USA Today online. They dropped the subscription and to my knowledge their site is all free, while ESPN now charges for content. You have to give away free stuff and gradually raise the price over time.

Unknown Owner,
May I ask what planet your from? If you are from this earth you must live on the east or west coast. What dealership in their right mind sells Hyundai's "ABOVE RETAIL PRICE"?

My god man I have never paid more than invoice price and sometimes below that! Maybe I am lucky I live in the mid west. You know people complain about "Hyundai Dealerships". Well around here they are sold with other makes.

We have several major cities within 100 miles of me. One sells Hyundai, Cadillac, Chevy, and Buick. Another that sells Hyundai, Ford, and BMW. Another that sells Hyundai, Suburu, and Mazda. And lastly one that sells Hyundai, and Honda. Now then since each dealer sells mutiple brands that must mean that Chevy, Ford, BMW, Honda, Suburu, Mazda, Cadillac, and Buick dealers all suck then to since its the same people selling them all!

Everyone of these dealers will discount very nicely although I have one that I buy from that does the best overall job of this. Another kind of neat thing is about 4 times a year they send me free oil change coupons. I think that's kind of cool.

Next your probably going to tell me the dealers around you don't let you have any of the pretty good rebates they have going on now for several of their models. Oh well like I said I do feel lucky!!!

When did anyone say anything about Hyundai dealerships (or any dealerships) sucking? Unless I missed something, it almost appears as if you're replying to a different discussion.

The tone at the beginning of your message wasn't very nice at all. I don't want this discussion getting flamey. I'm also asking unknown_owner to refrain from returning a nasty response. Two wrongs don't make a right...

At any cost.. With all the hype going on around the Hyundai Genesis, I don't think unknown_owner is the only one who sees a possibility that Hyundai may mark up this vehicle. It's unlikely, but not impossible. It's really up to the dealership. And if there's enough demand, they just may do it... It's not exactly unreasonable to assume so...
