Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Here is a link to the 3.8 with a Magnaflow Catback (with H-pipe) and a Road Race Motorsports crank pulley. CAI is being built next week. I will post dyno results once I get a chance to make a pass or two. Sorry for the delay! Enjoy!

hi just got your forum post on the magnaflow cat back for your 09 genesis sedan 3.8 v6 and it sounds terrific

i have spent a small fortune trying to get a lower tone with no drone i have failed todate

i called maganflow tech and they say they do not make a v6 sedan system also they say they only offer x pipe connections not an h pipe

please let me know what type system you have and whether there is any drone at 2-2500rpm

please email me directly at bsto222@charter.net i would consider this a personal favor from another genesis owner

my forum name is bud in sc

thanks very much bud stoner greenville sc 864-297-4777

If my Genesis was a V8 I would think about a better exhaust, V6 doesn't sound that good. But it could because I have Billy Boat Bullet exhaust on my C5 vette and that is what I'm used to hearing.

Well ya man your C5 should sound better. If it doesn't, you may want to have a mechanic look at it.

Was at the track to help a friend with his bike and ran into a 2.0T coupe with a chip that wanted to race. I ran 14.6 and he ran 15.6. I had my golf clubs in the trunk, A/C on blast and the bass pumpin and still whooped his ass.

I have a V8 Genesis and have been experimenting with exhaust choices. Presently, I have a modified Magnaflow, which I like but for a drone that I intend to "fix" with Dynamax VT mufflers.

Were I to do it again this is what I would do. It won't cost a lot.
1. There is a serious crimp in the stock exhaust between the rear cats and the central resonator for clearance to a cross brace. I'd cut that crimp out and weld in round pipe and lower the cross brace with a couple of washers.
2. The central resonator is a straight through design with a nice balance connection between pipes. Leave it alone.
3. The exhaust is really corked by the rear mufflers. Change these out with Dynamax VT mufflers. Research these mufflers on LS1 Tech forums.

The final result should cost well under $500 to have this done.

I have a question?? Does anyone makes performance headers for the 3.8L?? Would performance headers for the 3.8L coupe fit the sedan???

Coupe headers won't fit the sedan. If you're looking for performance gains that wont break the bank or your ear drums look into getting a CAI. Good bang for buck performance.

this is the install video of RRM Crank Pulley on 2.0t coupe.

In my opinion, I don't like the idea that the RRM's pully weighs only 1 lb compared to the 4lbs on stock. It also looks like it's made out of aluminum..

I think the stock pully was designed in the way it was for a reason. I wouldn't want to risk my safety over a few hps.. If I wanted fast sedan I would have began with 4.6 from the beginning.

Just my 2 cents,

Hey @ExecOutcomes616, I came across this thread about looking for a CAI and noticed that you list one in your signature. I'm wondering where you got as this thread doesn't indicate and appeared you were still looking for one? I'd be interested in getting one myself.

Thx

A couple of other things...

First, has anyone tried or thought about trying the Seoulful Racing ECU Reflash? They have this for the 3.8 Sedan apparently and at last look, I think the price was around $400. You need to send them your ECU unit and they update the software and send it back to you. I think I read that they will even send you another ECU to install first and then return yours to them.

Also, does anyone know what the changes to the 2012 3.8 engine are? They bumped up the horsepower to 333 which is a 43 horsepower increase over that in my 2009. That's significant! I'm wondering if these could be coming from simple bolt-on applications that could also work on other model years or are they some other major changes?

In case nobody has heard of the SFR ECU Reflash, I'm posting some information below.

Here's a link to their blog post about the ECU Reflash. It's from mid-2010 so I don't know whether this project disappeared or they just haven't updated their sites with new content about it in a long time: http://seoulfulracing.wordpress.com/2010/05/04/sfr-ecu-reflash-coming-soon/

Here's a couple of YouTube videos. While these videos are of the Genesis Coupe and not the sedan, as their blog said, it is also available for the sedan although I haven't verified this directly with SFR. It's actually hard to find concrete info on this and their website doesn't seem to promote it very well.

This video is talking about removing your ECU and installing a temporary ECU that they send you to use while you send back yours for reflashing: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0SedA--wDM"]SFR ECU Reflash how to get ECU core - YouTube[/ame].

This one shows a coupe on a dyno and shows some of the differences between the stock and flashed ECU mods: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=473kVZ8o83E&playnext=1&list=PL3C19F4CBD29EE1EE"]SFR ECU Reflash for Genesis Coupe 3.8 V6 - YouTube[/ame].

Again, I know what I'm showing is for the coupe but they did say available for the 3.8 V6 Lambda sedan. I may follow up with Jay over Seoulful Racing to see if these are actually available.

2012 v6 has direct injection now. So a much higher compression ration and different engine mapping. totally different.

my email to them a couple months ago.... http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showpost.php?p=73153&postcount=6

Okay, so they do have them. Good to know.

As far as voiding the warranty, I know that there is always discussion and concern about this but as far as I know things to be, they can't just void your warranty based on the fact that you have a particular part installed unless they can show that any problems you develop are a direct result of that application. Of course they will try like hell to blame the modification I'm sure.

The difference here may be the fact that you are changing the computer control of the car, raising rev limits and removing the top speed limiter and more so the opportunity to blow your motor may be greater without these limits but again, I don't think they can technically void your warranty unless you bring your car in with a blown motor and they see that you have modified the computer somehow. I certainly don't think they can just see a modification and immediately void your warranty. Anyone with more knowledge on how all this works, please feel free to enlighten us.

From what SFR says, the new ECU is undetectable and the codes returned by it are those that would be expected by a Hyundai tech. Also, SFR apparently keeps a copy of your OEM settings that they can flash back to stock should you need to.

I may look into this further. I want more power without having to spring for a new 2012, especially after the time and money I've already invested.

I came across this EBay listing for a CAI:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-...0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ370498878671#vi-content

Has anyone else seen this? It seems to be the only CAI that I've come across for the sedan and in particular, this is for the 3.8 V6.

I have no idea about this company or their reputation and the price of $90 honestly seems a little cheap to me but who knows. If it's the real deal then perhaps it could be worthwhile, especially for those of us who also have made exhaust changes.

With a trifecta of ECU, exhaust and CAI mods we might be able to experience a peppier, racier 3.8 with better throttle response etc.

Okay, so I actually went ahead and ordered one of these earlier today after contacting the seller. I asked whether it was a direct bolt-on or required any kind of modification to make it fit and also inquired about their thoughts on warranty violations. Here's what they said:

Hi, Thanks for your interest, yes, it is direct bolt on application and no modification needed to install this cold air intake kit,

This intake system comes bundled with:

1) 2 or 3 inch diameter T-306 heat-resisting Premium Quality Chrome Polished Aluminum Intake Pipes

2) Mounting hardware: Brand New Couplers (RED), Vacuum hose (RED) and Clamps

3) A ChromeINTAKES washable and reusable high-flow performance cone air filter (RED)

4) Basic Installation Instructions & All Necessary Hardware will be included

5) Mass Air Flow Sensor Adapter will be included for vehicle which is required

The warranty really depends with your dealership, sometimes they just don't care about the air intake kit but some of them do, so we always recommended our customers to replace the factory air intake kit back before they going to do the engine warranty jobs, which will only take less than 30 minutes to replace it back.

We have sold and installed some of them and we never have any complaint about it. We tested it on our customer car, you can tell some difference with it.

Any question, please let us know. Thanks for asking

I did a little Googling and found other forums for other cars where people have used these and overall the consensus seems to be favorable. I found posts back to at least 2008 where people bought and installed these so they've been around a few years at least and have a high EBay rating.

After all, a CAI is just a pipe with a filter on the end of it essentially so it can't be all bad I would think. People mentioned how the filters seemed to be high quality.

I will update after I receive and install it.

Please let me know how you make out. I have an 09 and was thinking of possibly upgrading to a 2012, but if this works that would be great.

I got my CAI built at a local shop here in Florida. Advanced Race Technology. (941) 927-7223. Ask for Derek. Also, my dealer has no issues with the CAI and told me it does not void your warranty. HOWEVER, I would suggest keeping the OEM intake box just in case you have an issue. If something does arise then you can just swap the OEM pieces back in and take it in for service. Derek will built you a CAI and send you the whole kit with install instructions too. Added a nice touch to my car and a few extra WHP.
