  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Lexicon Sound System Review 2012 V8 Genesis

I downloaded a free ALAC promo from HDTracks.com and burned it to CD. Didn't get to spend any time in the car, other than to confirm that it loaded and will play. HDTracks is an interesting resource and I'm looking forward to exploring the content more. As websites go, it's a little clunky, but I'm hopeful.

I have only one DVD-audio disc. Awesome.

I was able to try a number of formats on my usb thumb drive today to see what plays:

MP3: Yes
FLAC (Stereo): No
FLAC (Multichannel): No
Apple Lossless .m4a: No
WMA 10: NO
WAV: No
MLP: No
DTS: No
AC3: No
Aiff: No

If anyone has been able to get any format other than mp3 to play off a thumb drive please let me know. The WMA file displayed the title but refused to play, all the others found nothing on the drive.

That sucks big time. I wonder if it will do .m4a off of iPod or iPhone ?

Maybe that's why there is a label that says mp3 at the top of my Nav screen?

Let's see, the 17 spk system can play DVD-A audio, but only the 14 spkr system and 7 spk system can play Bluetooth streaming audio. I'll stick with the Bluetooth. On my high-tech scale, that's much more important.
That is like saying you like watching movies on your 11 inch B&W screen more than scenes shot in IMAX.

Not at all. With my iPhone streaming audio to my car I can listen to almost any Internet radio station in the world. My favorite App is called TuneIn radio. Guess you don't know much about such technology. My favorite is a German station that plays Celtic music. Or, I can listen to Scottish talk radio from Edinburgh. Can a DVD-A disk do that? Audio quality is secondary to program content in most folk's minds.

Yeah I have the same app on my Android, it's a great app for listening to radio stations. To each their own with audio quality vs. quantity. I'll take quality every time. I'd much rather listen to dvd-audio vs mp3 in my Genesis, and HD movies vs. VHS on my big screen tv.

It's more like saying you prefer watching movies on you 47" plasma to going to the IMAX. Sure, the IMAX it's a better experience, but its also far more expensive and way less convenient, and you can't watch your favorite TV shows on IMAX. It's convenience and content vs. premium experience. I say to each their own. I personally would much prefer to have Bluetooth streaming over DVD-A ability.

It's too bad the Lexicon doesn't offer all the above. I wish there was better connectivity options, played more formats off of usb, etc. It's a good system, but could be so much more with just a few minor tweaks and improvements.

I'm trying to follow along here but I know nothing about quality audio. I'd like to buy a DVD-Audio just to see what great quality audio sounds like in my Genesis. I'm looking at the Beatles Love album from Best Buy (or maybe a Live Concert album). Is this the album I need to buy to the get DVD-Audio format?

The Best Buy link says CD and DVD and that's confusing me. I don't see DVD-A or DVD-Audio. Is this what I want to buy?

Thanks for any help

I'm almost positive that's the right one. It's also on Amazon as well. The Beatles Love album is pretty good for dvd-audio, but some of the earlier stuff they had less to work with for the mix. It's really too bad Hyundai didn't give out a Demo disc with mixed artists such as Acura and others have in the past. There's almost nothing left in stock as far as dvd-audio goes, so the only place you can get most of them is ebay or via the internet ;)

Gezactly!

I could have married a gal who looked exactly like Liz Taylor in her prime. Problem was she was uneducated, dirt poor and a clothes horse. Instead, I married a gal who was merely (not dirt) poor, but is attractive, intelligent, educated and is a wonderful, thoughful, life partner. You divorced folks who went just for beauty know the story.

Wives and IMAX aside, I want to thank Elshagon for the review and education. Yes, opinions are valid and welcome. But they don't hold a candle to the facts and experience he/she is imparting to us.

I second that!!

Agree! Wasted on some perhaps, but appreciated nonetheless.

Yes, this is the one. It is actually a two-disc set: one disc is an ordinary CD, and the other is the same music in the superior DVD-Audio format (music only, no video). The DVD-Audio version has a much richer, fuller, more realistic sound. Also, the DVD-Audio version is in 5.1 surround sound. BTW they also sell Beatles "Love" as a single disc CD for about five bucks less. For some reason the DVD-Audio version can only be bought combined with a regular CD in a two-disc "Special Edition."

For many more DVD-A choices go to amazon.com and type "dvd audio" under the music category (and then check the "dvd audio" box under "format" on the left-hand side) and you will find over two thousand DVD-A's to choose from. Other really good ones are "Gaucho" by Steely Dan; "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys; "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Elton John; and if you like classical music, "Water Music" by Handel on the Naxos DVD-Audio label. Needless to say, you can also buy all of these as regular CD's, but the DVD-Audio versions are dramatically better and sound especially good in the Lexicon.

Disappointed in the 2012 stereo. In the 2010 model when you had a DVD -A disk playing you could chose 5.1 stereo sound now the only choice is surround sound and it sounds not quite as good. In my opinion.
