Seen a few days ago in Diamond Bar, which is 30 miles east of Los Angeles.

Diamond Bar is home to many South Koreans on US corporate assignments, often for South Korea's large conglomerates. There is one household which works for Hyundai-Kia as a test driver; s/he has driven a number of Hyundai-Kia vehicles before their official US introduction, including the Azera, the Veracruz, two examples of the Genesis Sedan, the Genesis Coupe, the Borrego, and the Soul.

Some of the vehicles that show up here include KDM vehicles; there was a Sonata NF with KDM-only rear parking sensors a few years ago, and now I get to see this Equus VS460. It comes complete with license plate mounting holes for the new European-sized plates that South Korea now gets (look closely). New holes had to be drilled in, I presume, to get that California distributor plate on there.

KDM Hyundai vehicles get alphanumeric trim levels, based on engine displacement. The Genesis is available as the BH330 and the BH380 (there is no BH460, as the V8 is export only). The old Equus topped out at VS450 (the old Mitsubishi Omega V8), and the new Equus, using the 4.6L Tau, carries the VS- coding forward as VS460.

I wasn't driving my Genesis when I took this photo; I was driving an older Honda Accord. This Equus was driving quite hard - it's a steep uphill climb after this right turn, and my Accord simply couldn't keep up with the Equus and its Tau.

Enjoy the pic.

Let me get this straight. Hyundai wants to sell a top of the line, high end luxury automobile in the US for over $50,000 but they can't even come up with a model name? Asking random people to determine or vote for a name via a website survey shows Hyundai has no idea whatsoever on how to market a luxury car. This is just another example of Hyundai's horrible marketing strategies.

I'm sorry, but as a potential buyer looking for a new luxury automobile, Hyundai's lack of marketing cohesion and common sense has left me cold. Therefore, I no longer have any interest in purchasing the Equus (or whatever the name might be) and will wait on the sidelines until Hyundai finally figures out how to showcase, promote and support it's luxury automobile lineup (if they ever do).

LMAO! :D Are these actually the best thought provoking wisecracks that you could come up with? Of course these are the type of remarks I would expect from a immature juvenile trying to pose as an intellectual especially when you don't even understand how to use the word You're correctly in a sentence. It is certainly obvious that you are simply upset because I have lambasted you time and time again while thoroughly picking apart your incorrect statements and asinine arguments to show that you are clearly out of your league when attempting to debate me on issues or subjects matters you clearly know little about. I am sure it's quite obvious to most of the genesisowners members that your snide comments are nothing but personal attacks which have nothing to do with the topics at hand.

Please!

How many times does it have to be restated that what Hyundai is doing actually quite prudent - improving the reputation of its mainstream brand and growing its marketshare in the US before properly launching a premium brand.

Sorry, but the US market was just not ready for a premium brand from Hyundai when the Genesis sedan was launched a year and half ago (it's the same reason why Nissan delayed Infiniti's launch in Europe and why Hyundai decided not to bring the Genesis to Europe).

Furthermore, there was no way a new dealer network could have been supported w/ sales of the Genesis sedan alone (when it was the only model available for over half a year).

A premium brand needs a volume seller and Hyundai does not have that yet (the Genesis coupe has thus been a flop and really isn't a luxury vehicle).

To help mitigate the cost of a new dealer network, the price of the Genesis sedan would have had to have been bumped up by $4-6k.

Any increase in sales that would have been brought by not carrying the Hyundai badge would have been lost by the subsequent price increase (how many people here would have bought a Genesis if they had to pay an extra $4k to $6k, even if it came w/ the winged badges already attached?).

Furthermore, Hyundai Motors has limited resources and at this juncture, it is more impt. for the success of the company to increase the sales of its mainstream lineup, particularly, the "bread and butter" Sonata, Elantra and Tuscon, not only in the US, but worldwide, esp. in the ever increasingly impt. markets of China and India.

Hyundai has grown its worldwide sales this past month by over 50% from that of January of 2009, and is now firmly planted as the no.2 brand in both China and India (the two fastest growing auto markets).

In addition, Hyundai has seen record sales in Europe, particularly in the UK where it had previously been struggling somewhat.

All this and more had already clearly been explained a no. of times previously, but yet time and time again, you seem not to be able to wrap your head around it - instead, just repeating ad nauseum the same stuff that is based on nothing more than a poor understanding of the auto industry/market.

Let me know when you have done consulting work for auto industry heavyweights (such as MBUSA) and have contacts w/ analysts who cover the auto industry.

Genesis Ranks No. 2 in J.D. Power 2026 Initial Quality Study https://share.google/bUTZNIGCEB0fwJN2t

The benchmark study reveals widespread success across the entire Genesis lineup, with both luxury SUVs and sedans dominating their respective segments during the critical first 90 days of ownership.

I'm not surprised at all. I'm really happy with the quality of my GV60 after three years and 36,000 miles. It has only had one minor issue that was free to repair. I've owned numerous Lexus Porsche and Mercedes cars amongst other brands, and this one ranks right near the top with those for initial quality. And given that it's an electric car, I expect many fewer repairs in the future. Just as long as the ICCU doesn't give out.

I saw this posted on Carfax for my car. Mailers have not gone out yet and are scheduled to go out June 8th. This is a bad one - fuel could leak out of the pipe and cause a fire. There is no fix currently. I asked the dealer about this yesterday as I dropped my car of to get the AC condenser replaced under warranty.

Sounds like a lot of over-reaction here. The following is an excerpt from Genesis Canada's letter to owners. Hopefully this will reassure some of the more hysterical posters:

Precautions:
No precautionary measures are to be taken at this moment; however, if you
experience any issues with your vehicle, please contact your distributor
immediately.
WHAT WILL GENESIS DO?
Your Genesis distributor will retighten the crossover fuel pipe and, if
necessary, the pipe assembly will be replaced based on inspection results.
These repairs will be performed at NO CHARGE to you.

Have you actually contacted your (or any) dealer about this? Do you actually know of anyone who has had their unit "retightened"? People are obviously and justifiably concerned, but I have not personally seen any "hysteria".

The above verbiage appears to be aspirational, ie, the Genesis "plan" not a description of current affairs/availability. Across dozens of posts, US and Canada, not a single one who has actually contacted the guys holding the wrenches, has found ANY dealer prepared, ready and willing to do this repair, as Corporate has not given them the tools, the parts or the marching orders to do so.

The "advice" letter people are receiving appears to be a corporate attempt to temporarily address an NHTSA issue, which. while potentially deadly, has a low chance of occurring (or at least so far). What is more concerning to me is that there are reports I have seen (here and on FB) from actual owners (granted, unverified--and how would one?) that truly leaking cars (and there are definitely some) have been impounded due to the severity of the danger with no immediate recourse.

Apparently Kia had this exact same issue with their minivans, issued a fix, and are actively doing/have done the repairs. But Kia's is a far smaller number of models/units affected than their sister company Genesis.
As SirJangle notes above, Genesis probably wants to ensure they have all their ducks in a row to release the actual instructions and parts, as well as prioritization procedures, because they cannot afford to dump 100k new service calls all at once on their already undersupplied, overburdened, understaffed, and less-then-stellar reputation dealer network. There will surely be a mad rush and demand by every aware owner for his car to be fixed as soon as possible. They want to be able to respond as smoothly as possible.
H Corp does not need any more black eyes after their only now resolving ICCU service debacle.

Thanks for the update. Either your dealer has a lot of loaners, few recalls, is unusually generous, or knows/trusts they will have a quickish resolution to the issue--or some combination of those.
I can't imagine they will let you keep a brand new car indefinitely.

The tariff situation in the US threw a major wrench into the product planning works at many manufacturers.

Given the typical multi-year development timeframe for most new cars, it’s a terrible time to be an automaker selling cars not built in the US, like the GV60.

Sure, but that doesn't explain the situation here in Canada. Unless that's strictly due to low sales here. I've had mine 2 years now and have seen only one other GV60 around here.

Not just you, I was visiting the mothership (Korea) a couple of months ago. I saw tons of Genesis vehicles, lots of Ioniq 5s and exactly one GV60 during my 2 week stay in Seoul. I saw more new Ferraris than GV60s,lol.

I saw the car and driver article estimating 220 miles of range, man that is kind of sad given competitive vehicles with similar performance and specs have EPA ratings above 300 miles. I could be wrong but these are still EVs and range is still kind of a thing.

Ultimate range is much more of a “thing” for non-EV owners than it is for most actual EV owners, IMO. If you can charge at home, unless you drive more than 200 miles a day, range rarely actually matters.

The other thing is that the EGMP platform’s DCFC speed is so fast that a longer road trip often won’t take any longer in one than in an EV with longer range but slower charging…

200 miles is great in the summer but as I am sure you already know it's as little as 60% of that range during cold winter day. So it's a thing for some of us.

… So it's a thing for some of us.

(emphasis added)
This is the key phrase.

Because how many people regularly drive more than 120 miles in a typical day? Certainly some do, but that would equate to over 25,000 miles a year, whereas the national average is more like 12,000…

Hello everyone.

I signed a 3 year, 15k mileage lease on a beautiful 2023 G70 3.3t awd Sport Prestige Package in Havana Red yesterday. Beautiful car inside and out. I've been going back and forth with the dealership for about 7 months now. (The top Genesis dealership in MA.) I wanted to buy, then not buy, then I was interested in the GV70, then I wasn't. Then I wanted to buy, then not buy. WHACKADOODLE!!! o_Oo_O:LOL::LOL::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::LOL:
Finally pulled the trigger yesterday after the test drive. I pick it on Saturday as the car is getting ceramic coated as well.

That's a heck of a feeling, huh? No more payments... But yeah - I know what you mean. The GV70 is quite nice. And kind of a naturally progression from the G70. But it all depends on (I think) if you prefer the lower seating position to the higher one. And then there's the versatility of the hatch... What are ya gonna do? :p

I’ve been looking at upgrading my older G80 to a 2026 model, and while I love almost everything about the refresh, I’m really torn on the new interior layout.

Specifically, the huge 27" OLED screen that runs across the entire dashboard.

I know the reviews are raving about it looking futuristic, but to me, it feels like Genesis is falling into the same trap as everyone else by just slapping a giant screen on the dash. I always loved how the older models had the infotainment screen beautifully recessed into the dashboard. It felt classy, minimalist, and very integrated.

This new one feels like it just sits on top of the dash like an afterthought. It doesn't feel right to me. Plus, for those who already have it, how bad is the glare on sunny days? Do you find yourself constantly wiping fingerprints off the passenger side of the glass?

Curious to hear if anyone else actually prefers the older, more traditional luxury look, or if I'm just being old fashioned.

I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with you guys here. I felt exactly the same way until I actually lived with the new 27" setup in person.

The screen doesn't feel like an "iPad slapped on the dash" at all because it’s one seamless piece of curved glass - there’s no ugly black plastic seam dividing the cluster from the map. The OLED resolution is incredibly crisp, and the way the navigation stretches across the panoramic display looks amazing at night.

As far as glare goes, the anti-reflective coating is excellent. Plus, since you still have the physical click wheel on the console and dedicated buttons for the climate control, you rarely ever have to reach out and smudge the glass anyway.

Don't let the photos fool you. It completely modernizes the cabin and, honestly, makes the pre-refresh interiors look ten years old right away.

As with anything else in life, to each their own. The biggest negative and deal breaker for me is what it did to the flow of the interior. For example, instead of the vents being hidden in the metal trim, they're now dropped down to the oval, which drops buttons onto the center console. The problem, for me, isn't function. It's aesthetics.

I prefer the integrated screen in the dash like in my 2015 Genesis and my 2020 G90. Seems like more thought was put into the design. Let's face it, screens are a cost saving measure. Saves on a lot of materials by replacing buttons, gauges, wiring with a screen. At least some manufacturers are getting the message and putting the most commonly used buttons back in their new cars...

While we're at it, bring back analog gauge clusters on higher end cars. Doesn't look like they belong. It's like looking at a digital Rolex... it's not right... lol
M
I went with an older G70 just to stay away from some the digital controls.

My mom wanted a GV70 or GV80 but refused to buy one with the screen.

If this digital cockpit trend continues there probably won't be a used car market at some point....We all know that screen will suck in 5-7 years.
F
@SuperKing is hitting the nail right on the head here. These big 27" panoramic displays are a cost saving measure masquerading as cutting edge luxury.

It's way cheaper for a manufacturer to source one big glass panel from an electronics supplier than it is to design, wire, and fit a beautifully integrated dashboard with physical analog clusters, custom bezels, and hidden vents.

But to @MrMegadeth’s point about the used market... what choice do we actually have moving forward? If you don't like the big screens, where do you go? BMW has the giant curved iDrive display, Mercedes has the massive Hyperscreen, and Audi is doing the triple screen setup.

At least Genesis had the decency to leave us a physical rotary wheel and dedicated knobs for the climate control so we aren't crashing into a ditch trying to adjust the AC. It might look a bit like a digital Rolex, but compared to what Tesla or Rivian are doing by stripping every single button out of the cabin, the Genesis setup feels like a reasonable compromise between 2026 tech and traditional usability.

I remember being an a mall that had a Tesla dealer around 2020, and when I looked inside the car and saw one big squarish screen and very little else, I said to my self, "I don't think I can own a car with a bland dashboard like that". That being said, the newer Genesis dash looks a lot better than the 2020ish Tesla did. I could probably get used to it in a short period of time.
Different strokes for different folks, but I like a dash with a lot of gauges and dials. Some new cars use all dials and some use the screen, but I like the 2021 Genesis because you can control a lot of stuff with dials and with the screen. Your choice.....The best of both worlds.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Congratulations on your brand new Genesis GV70! What did the GV70 replace for you? I'm glad you found us. :)

We replaced a 2019 Lexus UX 200! We bought it new, and was a terrific no problem car!. Hoping we get a similar experience with the Genesis!

The UX is a nice car - but the GV70 - that's a big upgrade. Congratulations! Lexus does have a great reputation for reliability - though I've found they're always quite late to the game when it comes to technology. Probably one of the reasons their vehicles has so few issues. They want until every other brand has worked out the bugs...

As the subject says - getting attached messages after manually updating (May maps/update) the car. I let the Maps/MM OTA expire, b/c I don't mind doing this manually and I see little value in paying for it - but NOW, with this latest update, it seems to indicate that it uses online only and falls back to off-line maps only for connectivity issues... and even though (I checked) the Map OTA subscription doesn't say anything about this feature, I'm wondering - anyone else see these msgs? Or, am I the only one who let the Maps OTA subscription lapse? I _did_ dbl-check with the USB, says it's the same version as to what I have.

I read that the new version sources from Google in real time.

Right - that is why I'm suspecting the map OTA subscription right now be a requirement, but so far customer support says no

Oh, man, it sounds like the Coach Doors might be gone... An executive reshuffle, huh? That sounds scary... What the heck is going on, I wonder...

Yeah... I'm sure they really want to get this right... And competition is pretty insane right now. Heck, even the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade are impressive...

Genesis has a new 2027 model designed to compete with the Tesla Cybertruck. They refined the overall design but maintain the proper overall shape/image.

Price has not been announced but they say some are willing to pay a premium considering the fine finish compared to the plain steel Tesla.

The GV60 body style was getting a bit long in the tooth.

We all knew textured exteriors were coming... Not only do they look great, but they feel great. Ribbed for all our pleasure...
