  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all... it's been a while since i've posted. Since my last post, my 24 month lease on the 2009 Sapphire Blue Premium package was almost up and my dealer worked with me to get a new 2010 (same color) 3.8 with the touchscreen navigation and back up camera. A fine car indeed. I find the ride a little firmer in the 2010 than the 2009 - but that's besides the point...

About a week ago, my XM radio displayed NO CONNECTION. No channels would come up and the radio was more or less dead. Just the XM section, mind you - everything else worked flawlessly.

When I called the dealership (who shall remain nameless unless someone *really* wants to know for good reason) to make an appointment, they told me to come in today at 0815. It was a busy morning when i made the appointment, and i forgot the time, so i called the dealership back about 90 minutes later to ask them to remind me of the time but they had no record of the appointment. The person i spoke with complained up and down about the new computer system that emails reminders and appointments and took all of my information again. Obviously, my call was an annoyance - so much so that he didn't even ask why i was bringing the genesis in. Right before we hung up i asked, "would you like to know why i'm bringing the car in???" I told him about the XM problem - he said, ok fine, see you thursday. I should add that i made it explicit that when i bring the car in, that i will need a car to get to several appointments and errands.

When i arrived this morning to drop off the car, i was delighted (and somewhat surprised) to see my name on the appointment board in the service area. I gave them my genesis (with exactly 1444 miles on it) and he said, why dont you go wait upstairs in our waiting area to see if i can fix this problem right away. I mentioned that i had an appointment to get to - he was obviously annoyed that i needed a loaner/rental car. About 15 minutes later, an enterprise car rental representative arrived - and i signed the papers for a warranty rental. i was given an Elantra with 15,000 miles on it. Hardly even remotely comparable to my Genesis.

After a couple of appointments this morning, i called the service area of the dealership and checked on the status of my car - he said that they were shipping a new radio unit from california and it should arrive tomorrow, friday. He indicated that the unit sustained an internal failure. He said he should have my car done by tomorrow. I'm highly skeptical of that estimate.

Be that as it may - i think Hyundai has some serious work to do with regard to their dealer experience when marketing their new, higher end models. I'm leasing my genesis and am paying a pretty penny - well worth it. but if i had leased an infiniti or lexus i would have received an infiniti or lexus rental - instead, i get a low end hyundai. Is this the price for going with hyundai?

If i had purchased/leased a lexus - the quality of the service - man to man - person to person , i suspect would have been much better.

What are your thoughts on ways to improve the dealer experience?

BTW, i called the enterprise guy after i left and mentioned that the elantra is not anywhere near the size, safety, class and comfort of a genesis. he said that i could come to his office and "maybe" be able to get into something a little nice - he said something like a santa fe. We'll see.

I look forward to having my sapphire blue genesis back in my possession!

My first experience with my dealer's service department was very good.
Although I didn't even bother to ask for a loaner as I was bringing it in for an oil change and alignment, the way they treated me was superb.

I agree that generally speaking, Hyundai service might be not as good as Lexus for example.
But it really depends on which dealer you go to. I'm happy with mine so far.

I had the same experience at my Jaguar dealer; the Enterprise office was right in the dealer's showroom and I got to drive a Dodge mini-van while my XJ8 was being serviced.

Seth, not to change the subject, but when your lease was nearing the end, did Hyundai offer any type of renewal deals/inducements?

Sandy:

I received nothing direct from Hyundai with regard to releasing - but my dealer was somewhat helpful in the negotiation process of getting me the 2010 at the same rate with another year on the term. (36 mos). At this point, i like the Genesis so much - all around - that i'm thinking about buying it at the end of 36 mos. if the dealer will negotiate with me.

My Gnesis has been in the shop more than out in the 8 months I've owned it. Both dealers that have had it have given me a Genesis as a loaner.

A compact is rather normal no matter where you go. The local Nissan dealer will give you a Versa even though you may bring in your high end Nissan. The Mercedes dealership here will give you a B200 even if you bring in your high end Mercedes. ;) Mazda dealerships give out Mazda 3's. Almost forgot, Hyundai dealers give out accents or elantras. Many dealerships today deal with rental companies and they always go for the cheaper end. Point is, the supplied car is to let you do your errands and get around not bask in equivalent luxury of what you brought in.

When my Genesis (tech package) was in the shop, the dealer gave me another Genesis (tech package) free for eight days.

The local BMW dealer used to give me an Enterprise "rolling wreck". More bangs and scrapes than than you'd see on a car up on blocks in someone's yard in West Virginia.

Seth,

I wouldn't blame your post on Hyundai for the Elantra rental vehicle as Hyundai does not cover rentals under the warranty. The Elantra that you were given was a decision made by the dealer you took your Genesis to. They are independently owned and unfortunately is responsible for making that decision. Doesn't have any thing to do with Hyundai but I am glad you like your new 2010 Genesis Sedan.
