12.5 Map Update

Interesting, because I never had this setting prior to this latest update. So my guess is my vehicle, which I believe sat around for a while before I came along and purchased it, must have had an older firmware version installed. The 12.5 update was the first update I applied to the maps and the system.

or someone that test drove the car was playing with the settings..

I had version 10.5 in my 2018 when I purchased it, and that is from 2017 and this feature was present. my build date is Mar-2018.

I don't believe Genesis would put anything older than what was available at the time of the build into the car, i.e. a 2015 GPS version in a 2018 car.

After reading several posts about a possible recall of v12.5 on the 8" screen, I went ahead and installed it today. Mapnsoft shipped it to me on Dec. 4. I didn't think they'd ship a recalled SD card. The install went perfectly. It did not follow all the screen displays in the instructions nor did it require me to tap on Update from the Setup>System Info screen. Likewise, I wasn't prompted to do anything when the install completed. Went right back to the Home screen. After I inserted the card, it was 100% automatic from start to finish. I did not lose any AM/FM/SX presets or any NAVI presets, eg, Go Home address. I checked on new road built in the last year and it is now in the system. When I bought the car it has 10.5, 11.5 was installed one year ago and now 12.5. One comped update to go...assumedly in Dec. 2019.

When last year was it built? Just trying to gauge how current the map is.

Mcc...actually, it was probably built in the Fall of 2017. When I installed 11.5 in Dec. 2017, it wasn't there. I managed to find a contact at Mapnsoft that told me he knew of the road and it would be in the Spring 2018 update. I understand it was in v12.0 which came out mid year 2018. And it is in v12.5 that I installed today. So, I think they are at least 6 months behind new road construction.

My 2018 was built January of 2017. I bought it in April of 2018 with 17 miles on the clock. Like I said, it sat around for a while before I came along, so while I can't say with absolute certainty that the feature was or was not present, I can tell you I checked every setting as I was learning the vehicle and I can't recall seeing or adjusting the setting for reducing the volume when the vehicle is placed in reverse. Based on the age of my vehicle, I wouldn't be surprised if it came with a version older than what yours did, at least as far as the firmware is concerned.

But hey, it's new to me, even if it's new simply because I'm getting older and can't remember seeing it before.

yeah with a 1-2017 build I suspect you may have had version 10 or 9.5 , 10.5 from what I can tell came out mid 2017 (around August based on the date stamped on my SD chip) So maybe it wasn't there.

but hey you now have 2018 firmware so at the very least you have all the 2018 options currently available.

<snip> I can tell you I checked every setting as I was learning the vehicle and I can't recall seeing or adjusting the setting for reducing the volume when the vehicle is placed in reverse. <snip>

I did my 12.5 update on Friday with no issues. Glad I read this post earlier as today was the first day I put the car in reverse after being on the road with music playing as normal. The drop in volume startled me for a second before I recalled this shared insight.

Pulled in to the parking spot and navigated to the appropriate command and unticked the box. My 2016 doesn’t appear to ever had a NAV update, so this was a new option for me that apparently defaults to dropping the volume. All good now. Thanks.

So I have discovered a few issues with this update:

1. Carplay will not launch if your phone is locked, even with the option set in the phone to use Carplay while locked, since the 12.5 update my phone pops an alert that says "unlock to use this accessory" when I plug it in. Once I unlock, then Carplay will connect, it will not connect until I unlock the radio just flips to FM. As soon as I unlock it connects and flips back to Carplay, once the screen times out and relocks if carplay is active (i.e. I am playing music or using the apple maps or another app) then it continues to work.

If I continue to listen to the radio and don't actually go into Carplay, it will not work until I unlock the phone.

2. The radio pauses/mutes when I change gears or activate the front camera. I have a habit of hitting the camera button when I pull into my office or home driveway, the camera activates once my speed is below 9mph, when this happens regardless of what source I am using the radio "hiccups" the sound cuts out, then back in, then out then back in, 2-3 times.. I can replicate this every time.

the same "hiccup" occurs if I got from Park to Drive or Drive to Neutral. Obviously Park or Drive to Reverse reduces the volume so the hiccup is not noticeable.

Lastly, prior to this update, when I exited the car (power off and open door) whatever source the radio was on when I did this (Carplay, FM, XM, Bluetooth, whatever), when I restarted the car, after the "confirm" screen, the unit would return to that source. Now it will only go to the map screen, and I have to hit HOME then choose my source.

Also I have noticed if I was using Carplay when I turned off the car, when I restart; it is in Jukebox until Carplay connects, if my phone is unlocked when I connect it, then after 20-30 seconds it will pick up Carplay and switch from Jukebox to Carplay and continue playing from where I left off, if my phone is locked it will continue in Jukebox until I unlock the phone.

before the update the radio was just silent until Carplay was connected, if Carplay was the last source used at shutdown.

none of this is major critical but #1 requires an extra unneeded step IMO, and #2 is just annoying.

Edit: Whoops. Just re-read and see you enabled the CP locked screen permission.
I guess you could always disable lock screen but not likely helpful.

I've tried it both ways, it's an issue with the new update, not the phone.. Tried my wife's and daughters iPhone we all have different phones with different versions of iOS and all behaving the same way..

Could it possibly be related to the new Lighting-based security feature called USB Restricted Mode that Apple introduced starting with iOS 11.4.1? By default, the feature is enabled and has been reported to be creating issues with CP. Easy enough to find out: Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > USB Accessories >Toggle On to disable.

mine has been toggled off since 11.4.1, just double checked and it is still off.

This issue started immediately after the 12.5 update, it was not there prior to the update..

and I mean immediately. The day I updated I got in the car as normal, docked my phone, everything connected, turned on carplay and drove my kid to school. at the school I removed the old SD and inserted the new one and started the update as I drove to work.

When the head unit came back the phone immediately prompted "unlock to use this accessory".

I didn't report anything here until I had tried every possible combination and troubleshooting idea I could come up with. I build cars as a hobby, and I write code and troubleshoot IT problems from basic OS issues to full application QA and troubleshooting as a career.

Toggled off? You need to have USB Accessories toggled on to allow your phone to connect even when it's locked for more than an hour.

only if it has been more than 1 hour since the phone was locked according to the notation under this switch.

This is has never been the case with me.. This morning it wasn't even 1 minute between the time I locked the phone and entered the car.

and it worked prior to 12.5 and now doesn't work..

I will turn it on and try it later, but I doubt it will have any effect.

so I toggled that option to the "on" position on the phone, and no change.

went out to the car, unlocked my phone, opened the car, locked my phone, placed phone into dock (that connects it to the car USB), started car.

less than one minute since it was locked, same error "unlock phone to use this accessory"

overall it is not a big deal, just a minor inconvenience, as the phone is an iPhone 8plus with fingerprint, it takes 1 second to unlock.

Got my update (12.5) this week for my 2018 G80. My last update was 11.5 from Feb 2018. Installed while driving - no issues (I turn off the audio while it is updating). Took about 45 minutes. The new or updated website (https://www.mapnsoft.com/genesis/pages/dashboard/) mapnsoft worked great - the old one never accepted by VIN.

Just checked the website and, at least for my 2018 G80 built in March 2018, it states that update availability will be around mid January!

I have a 5.0 Ultimate with the 9.2" Screen and an iPhone Xs. With the Phone connected by Bluetooth, when starting the car a message appears on the screen that says something like "Unable to Access Messages, Check Phone Settings". I don't recall seeing this before updating to map update 12.5. I'm wondering which phone setting this is referring to.

I have seen some other posts that indicate they can now see messages even when they are not connect via Car Play.

Mine says the same and I’ve already got the 12.5 update installed! It also indicates that it’s installed. Could it be the next update? I doubt it.
