If something is not done, I can see where cell phones will be disabled inside of a car. No text is worth a life yet they are lost every day.

I agree and this is exactly why “My car, my decisions.” Is not only short sighted, it is just plan wrong. Your decisions effect others and they deserve to be protected from reckless drivers that may take or injure lives. On a lesser note it also effects everyone’s insurance rates.

Georgia’s distracted driving laws prohibit text messaging and handheld cellphone use for all drivers. However huge numbers ignore the laws!

Bottom Line ~ I’m very satisfied with all the solutions my Genesis provides; including all those designed to keep me a safe distance from idiot drivers.

yeah, it lifts from the bottom no the top as one would expect, and It doesn't come off, just sort of dangles after you release it.

G80 Ultimate 2018

I have the 2018 Premium!! It is weird, to me at least, that the Ultimate can get the update and not the Premium.

Guess I have no choice but to keep waiting until they decide it is ok to issue the one for the Premium.

And I think bubbag80sport misspoke. CarPlay does not allow reading aka visual texts at all. The only way it works is via Bluetooth and only when in park.

Yep I was incorrect/misspoke. Testing on my 2018 G80 Sport today my results were.

Carplay
Drive OR Park - Car will speak your NEW text messages.
I see no option to view/read text messages regardless of transmission positions (P/D/R/N).

Car system/screen
Drive - Car will speak your text messages. You canNOT view/read text messages
Park - Car can speak your text messages or your CAN view/read text messages.

You canNOT have Airplay and car texting system active at the same time. When you connect your phone via the USB cable, Carplay is activated and the car texting system is deactivated.

The car system/screen text capability only became available after I updated Navigation to v12.5 on my 2018 G80 Sport.
I believe the 2018 G80 Sport has the 9.2" screen system available in the 2018 3.8/5.0 Ultimate package.
Phone is an iphone 8 with ios 12.1.2.

8" or 9" screen? sorry I don't know what trim level gets what. there is a bug in the update for the 8" screen according to Hyundai, it is being worked out, have patience.

I absolutely agree. IMO texting or talking on hands on or free is just as dangerous as drunk driving. Do what you want on your own property, but on a public roadway you are responsible for your actions. Endangering others or yourself is unacceptable/irresponsible. Some people say they are not distracted. They are liars or fools. Some people say it's not any worse than a conversation with someone in the car. I disagree.

I am guilty of making hands free calls or hands free texting on occasion, but I try to avoid doing it. Many times I've finished a call and not recalled driving during that time. It's not the physical aspect of holding/using the phone. It's the mental distractions that is the real danger. 99% of the time you can get away with not being attentive on the road. It's the 1% of time when you need to react quickly and using a phone versus not makes the difference between a near miss and an accident.

The 2018 Genesis sales brochure is a little ambigious.

3.8 Base - 8” touchscreen navigation system with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™
3.8 Premium - No explicit screen shown. I hypothesize it's the same as the Base model 8"
3.8 Ultimate - 9.2” touchscreen navigation with 720p HD display and Driver Information System

3.3 - 9.2” touchscreen navigation system with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™
There is/are no option packages (other than RWD/AWD) for the 3.3 Sport model.

5.0 Ultimate
Does not say explicitly. Car model listed as Ultimate so I assume 9.2" per above.
