If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2009 – 2011 Genesis Sedan - 2012+ complete suspension conversion

I went with BLACK slotted/cross drilled rotors from Break Performance.com , I used them before on other cars with no issues. As for wheels I have 2 places I will visit in NJ, when I return home and see if they have anything that catches my eye, wheels arent important cause in the summer im on my motorcycles and in the winter we deal with snow , so ill see... but cant wait to start working on the car

Hey guys, I just picked up a 2011 3.8 sedan. I was wondering, how would the R-spec suspension work on a car with a V6? Do you think it would be a worthwhile upgrade? Or would the basic 2012 suspension be better? The car has a little more "floaty" feeling that I like. I want it to feel more planted.
Sorry if this is a newbie question, but all of my prior experience have been with Mazdas so I'm in new territory. Thanks

Well did my car today thanks to you lol, did the rear sway bar, shocks and & all, and
also new cross drill rotors. Didnt do new wheels as i can see a new 2015 Harley Davidson Road Glide in my crystal ball next month so to hell with new wheels lol. Just took her out for a quick spin . I knew at this time of night I could open her up on a highway near me that no one would be on, need to ride her a few more times, but she handled well doing about 110 with some nice curves but then again my baby always handled well so im not surprised . I will add that having the right tools made a world of difference

To be cont......

Thanks, scott

Nice upgrade Scott! And noticed your drilled and slotted rotors. I just received my fronts and pads, they are "turning" the rears; will post pics once I receive everything and get it installed. One thing I found out, no stainless steel brake lines yet for 2012+; they have them for 09' - 11', but not for 12' yet...

Who has em for the 09-11..............i always do that mod on all my bikes but never did it with my cars , i might have to look into that...

...just found this for $213

Maddmoe, hope I caught you before you bought. Try these people and let them know you know me (George in L.A. with the 2 Gennies)! The parts may not come up under their search, so just give them a call and let them know what you're looking for!

I'm pretty sure they can beat that price; the ones for my Coupe were $125.00...and these are StopTech!!!

Well went on a 300 mile ride yesterday & i must say she felt good and firm in the corners and changing lanes, as i tend to stay in the 70-80 mph range on a regular

Thanks for the info but i might just go with the ones from Goodrich since ive used them B4 i never had any issues with them, i believe in you get what you pay for, so cheaper isnt always better.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Hard for me to improve on ScottDK's post, but being a geek, I put a small spreadsheet together and thumbnailed a jpg of it with all the part numbers and costs I was able to find.

Hoping to do this on my 2011 4.6 at some point. Hope this might help some other drivers.

I am so glad to find this post. My '11 4.6L is bouncing like crazy. I love everything else about the car, but it feel like it's about to bounce off the road sometimes. I'm looking to only replace the rear springs with the 2012 4.6L (55350-3M900 from what I read on this post). Anything else I need to order? I'm mostly concerned with comfort. The car handles fine for my needs.

No one addressed the 11' 3.8 V6 question. Would the 2012 SUS MOD improve the 3.8 genny ?

Brun - You would also want to order the 2012+ rear shocks since they are made to work with the springs for the correct spring rate and shock dampening.

Phoren - what is SUS (Sport Utility Sedan in the Subaru world)? This suspension mod would improve ALL 2009 - 2011 Sedans regardless of engine.

Scott, I thought they were the same model. The post from baltojeff and yours earlier (6-5-14) state they are the same for the 2011 4.6L and 2012 non R-spec. I'm looking to put the non R-spec 4.6L 2012 springs in the rear only. I have a 2011 4.6L.

Thanks SCott. "SuS" my shorthand for suspension -- Phoren doesn't know a thing about Subaru's

My mistake, are correct, they are the same part - I was distracted when I read your post earlier.

Thanks for you time on the spreadsheet Jeff:cool: I just took an Excel class a few weeks ago, so now I'm finally up to par on spreadsheets.

I have a 2011 4.6 and the car's ride is silky smooth when the pavement is close to perfectly flat (which unfortunately is how the road was during my test drive), but like a lot of others are saying, it rides like a truck over pavement more typical of Chicago.

My plan is to take a similar approach as scottdk, but instead of using the 2012 5.0 as the donor, I want to use the softer 3.8 setup. My local dealer insists that the 3.8 parts are not compatible on the 4.6, but I want to give it a shot anyway, since a lot of the other suspension components are the same. Also a lot of the coilovers I have seen for the Genny will work universally for all models (other than 2015 of course).

I found a 2012 3.8 in a junk yard and plan to take pieces of that, then order the rest from hyundaipartsaccessories.com.
One strange thing I found was, the rear springs for the 2012+ 3.8 are discontinued with no replacement as of yet...

You probably should not use the front springs from the 3.8 on a 4.6. The added weight of the V8 means that the spring rates for the front weight of the car would be wrong and thus might actually be dangerous with no ability to control front end bounce. I would suggest using 4.6 springs up front at the very least.

I'm no suspension engineer, so this simple math might not be perfect...

Approx. specs for the 1st gen:
Curb weight [lbs]: 3,748 (3.8) 4,012 (4.6)
Weight distribution: 52 / 48 (3.8) 53 / 47 (4.6)

So Front weight per wheel for the 3.8 = 3748 * 52% /2 = 974 lbs/wheel
and 4.6 = 4012 * 53 / 2 = 1063 lbs/wheel

Assuming the springs fit, 90 extra lbs will mean ~1/4" drop on a 400 lb/in spring, ~1/2" at 200 lb/in...

Try it and report back with what you find.

Thanks for the info guys.
Looks like the curb weight of the 2014 3.8 is actually heavier than the 2011 4.6 at 4019 pounds, yet the suspension is the same as it was in 2012 when the car weighed 3824 pounds. So hopefully there is some wiggle room there.
I'm planning to do the rear first (along with anti-sway bar), and if that improves it enough, I'll just leave the front alone.
I'll update as soon as it's done, should be another week or two.
