  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2009 – 2011 Genesis Sedan - 2012+ complete suspension conversion

The rear springs and shocks and anti-sway bar from the '12 3.8 fit the '11 4.6 just fine.
The sway bar seemed identical, so there probably wasn't any need to change it.
The '12 springs had about 7 coils and the '11 springs had about 8 coils.
The '12 shocks were slightly softer.
The ride quality has improved, with less rear end bounce.
The rear ride height probably dropped around 1/8".
I was hoping for an even softer ride... you still feel every bump, but at least it doesn't knock the wind out of you while you're trying to speak anymore. I guess I would have to go with a buick or es350 if I want anything softer.
I'll now change out the front strut assemblies.
If that still isn't soft enough, I'll go down to 17" rims and tires when it comes time to replace the tires (assuming 17" rims will clear the calipers).

The 2012+ sway bar is 1mm thicker and also hollow vs. the old solid sway bar.

After having a 2013 r spec suspension sitting in my garage for a year, I finally got around to having it put on the car. I had the shocks, springs, and sways installed. Only have a couple of miles on them so I can't say if I notice a difference. What I do notice is that the car sits slightly higher now. Not much, maybe a inch or so. Do you think it will settle down after some driving? The previous owner only had about 10K miles on it, so it's practically brand new. BTW, if anyone wants a complete 2011 suspension for cheap, I would like to sell.

Your signature is lacking info on your car: what year is your car? Hyundai changed the suspension in the Genesis 3 or 4 times from 2009 to 2012. If you have a 2011, maybe there isn't a huge difference from 2011 to 2012 suspension? I know that there was a big difference going from the original 2009 to 2012 suspension.

My cars height is the same after the conversion, so I have no idea why your would be any different. Drove the car last night with 3 other people in it, and I'm still very pleased with the ride.

I have a 2011 sedan with the V6. It's bone stock except now with a nicer suspension.

I'm guessing your ride height increased because the R-SPEC suspension is designed for the weight of a V8.

I thought about the weight difference, but thought it would be nominal. The car has settled down some. After a week, it's almost down to normal height. If it would come down another 1/2 inch, I'll be ecstatic. But I have a feeling it's sitting where it's going to stay, which is fine.

Hello Phoren, i'm a new owner of a 2009 3.8 and was curious if you did your upgrade to the 2012 and if so did you use ALL 3.8 components (springs, Struts, Shocks) and did you change the rear Stabilizer Bar as well? If you did change out parts, how did the car ride afterwards? Like everyone else our car is pretty harsh over irregular road surfaces and I sure would like to fix this as much as possible.

Thanks in advance, Dan.

The rear stabilizer is actually the most important change. I would change it first, before deciding what to do next. It is also the easiest part of the suspension to change.

I'm swapping to coilovers in the next couple days, so assuming that I don't hate them, I'll have a full 2014 Rspec suspension for sale if anyone is interested.

Hey Mark_888, did you use the R-spec or standard Rear Stabilizer? I'm not even sure if there are 2 different ones but I'll check later today, just want to know which one you used. Thanks!

Hello Genegoesfast, did you already convert and if so, what do you think...much better are the Coilovers and did you change the Stabilizer Bar. With the rear did you leave the existing springs and just replace the strut with a coilover strut? Thanks.

I used the standard, but I believe they may be the same.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but if I have a '11 3.8 Genesis, would I be able to install all '12 R-Spec parts? Or, do I need to do the softer springs for 3.8 without EPS, and the softer shocks/struts?
