  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2011 Genesis 4.6L V8 Emblems

I used WD40 and the glue came off with the emblem. Also used it on the "4.6 Genesis", easy as pie.

The only safe way to remove the rear emblem is with a hammer:D no floss is needed then.

No, no, no! A hammer could dent the metal. I used a Sawzall. Next to a blowtorch you couldn't find a better tool! .:D

I hear that prolonged stares from BMW and Mercedes owners will also make the flying H come off. :)

The above ebay site shows the correct wings for hood and trunk, including pictures of how they attach (no screws). You got the wrong stuff.

I honestly don't know why anyone would want those ugly things on the front of that anonymous grille. It's better looking without it only having one badge on the rear with a thin Chrome Strip underneath but above the rear license plate like in the 09 Model of the 4.6 ....

Makes the rear end look like the BMWs and MBs that used to be considered good looking before they all got ugly. Now the equus has the exact same rear end almost like the new ugly 7 series after I suggested their 2002-2004 Z4 Coupe Grille to go on the new 8 Series, and the hideous front end of the Lincoln MKS. They tried but haven't gotten it right just yet.

2012 Genesis sedan is trying to use a thicker girth on the horizontal rear end chrome above the plate, it's ugly as hell. The Grille looks great without a badge, it's definitely a head turner and what originally won Hyundai N/A Car of the year for 09.

2011 Genesis 4.6L V8 Emblems 18" - Tire rebage

:welcome:

Hi I'm new here, I just bought a 2011 4.6L.

I have read various threads about replacing the center wheel caps and the issues with the 18" V8 wheels. "homeofstone" suggested that you can remove the center 'H' from the oem cap and replace it. I found this link on ebay for a replacement

My question is this, has anyone tried removing just the center H logo from the oem caps? How did it turn out?

The link you have to ebay is not the oem centers. This ebay item is only a stick on which goes over the H. If you look close the OEM centers are not solid black background and the wing is raised with more detail. KDM is original Hyundai and comes in Hyundai packaging.

I can vouch for how easy and inexpensive this option is. I did it on y 2011 4.6. But as homeofstone says, be very, very careful when heating and peeling up the center. I bent my first one, but fortunately I reshaped it easily. Do not force the centers. You can't beat this for the money.

I removed the oe H on the 18" wheel caps and put the wings from the 17" center cap in the place of the "H". Used a hair dryer to do the swap and went very very slow when removing the metal cover cap off of the 17" center cap here

I can confirm what homeofstone suggested about replacing the caps on the 18" V8 wheels. The only thing I did different was I placed the caps (both old and new) in a 225 degree oven for about 15 min instead of using a blow dryer. This technique worked very well. The caps lifted off with almost no effort. I have attached photos for reference.

The baking worked very well. Just did mine today @225F but needed a good 20 minutes for the glue to get gooey enough to lift the caps off. Easy as pie and a couple burned fingers.

What have folk used to glue the new caps on?
Thanks

I used the 3M backing that was on the 17" caps. I did not damage it and it came off clean with the metal cap cover. If you had to use new then use 3M automotive trim tape, it is double sided gray with a red peel back on a roll. Its waht is OEM used.

When you heat the 17'' caps and remove them from their original home the 3M tape stayed on. No problem reusing it. I was debating about reheating the glue to make it stickier but it worked fine without.

I'm waiting for my 17" caps to arrive, and will try your technique. Sure sounds like a better option than heating each of the 8 caps separately with a blow dryer. Thanks!

After removing the winged center cap emblem off the 17 inch caps are you able to reuse the tape on them when attaching to the 18 inch caps or did you have to use new tape?

I did not need to use new tape.

Thanks AGlenn, I'm gonna try this technique this week. Will let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the tip, AGlenn! Just finished replacing the caps on my 2011 4.6 Platinum w/ Black. Took about 20 minutes in the oven; 30 minutes total to get all 4 wheel caps replaced and back on the car. I'd still be working on it if I was using a blow dryer.
