  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had my Genesis 4.6 about a year not, and still loving it. For the better part of the year, I was using a BlackBerry Bold with the Bluetooth interface without any issue. I recently switched to the new IPhone 4s (IOS 5) and bluetooth is working pretty well except for one thing. Some contacts in my phone come up the caller ID as UNKNOWN on the display in the Genesis, while it clearly shows the caller ID on the phone. I have disconnected, reconnected, delete phone book, import phone book several times, but it seems to be the same numbers from my phone that come up UNKNOWN. If I delete the contact from my phone, then the caller ID comes up in the Genesis fine. As soon as I assign a user to the number and do all the phone book connecting again, problem returns.

Never had any of these issues with the BlackBerry. I checked the Apple website, but found nothing. I figured it was easy to find a Genesis owner with an IPhone than an IPhone user with a Genesis. :)

Anyone else having this issue?

I have a 2012 4.6 (love it!) and an Iphone 4S. I have no issue with phone book at all.

Sorry, wish I could help.......

I have a 2011 Genesis with Tech and iPhone 4 running IOS 5 and have exactly the same problem. It's been driving me crazy from day one (had the phone before the car so don't have any comparative comments). I've reported the problem to the dealer twice and they just look at me like I have three heads. There was some speculation that the recent IOS upgrade on the iPhone would solve the problem, but there was no change or improvement whatsoever. I spend a lot of time in the car making and receiving calls and this defect is significant and annoying enough for me that it prevents me being satisfied with the car.

Steve,

Have you successfully downloaded the address book from your iPhone 4S into your 2012?

I have over 2000 contacts in my Blackberry and am having issues w/ bluetooth and recognizing the names in the address book. The dealer has been unable to help so far.

I would like to get the 4S iPhone but it does not show as officially supported by Hyundai

Yes sir. I have an IPhone 4S and have successfully downloaded the phone book. I have had no issues wih caller ID. The hands free is very clear and most times the person on the other end does not realize I am in the car talkiing via bluetooth.

Should have mentioned - I have roughly 700 contacts in my phone......

Steve,

Thanks for the fast reply!

Steve,

quick questions - I am told that the bluetooth is different for systems with and without Nav

Do you have the Nav system?

I have premium and tech. My navigation is not touch screen.

Just picked up my 2011 and so far I love it (except for the questionable stereo quality)

How do you transfer your iphone contacts? I get to the "add entry" "by phone" and it says to start the transfer.

How do you start the transfer for an iphone?

I can see where this problem would be annoying, but I don't think you should blame Hyundai.

1. - The 4S came out a year after the car was built, so how could Hyundai program for it.

2. - The Apple 4S is not listed as a supported phone by Hyundai. If you want to be sure all features are supported, buy a phone that has been certified.

3. - Apple does not share their code with anyone. So it is a crap shoot as to what Apple changed in their code and how they implemented bluetooth. Since other phones work flawlessly, I would be complaining to Apple.

Re: 2011 Genesis and Blue tooth (IPhone 4s)

I have a 2011 "G" built in late 2010, this past Christmas I also got a 4S phone and have no problems with Bluetooth system.

I think this is a problem with the phone.. I do not have a Genesis, but I have a Garmin GPS with Blue Tooth hands free. I get the same issue with my iPhone 3Gs...

I have had a iPhone 4 and now a 4s. I bought a Genesis 2011. I like it except for having my contacts come up "unknown" when they call. I had the same experience. When discussed with dealer-- they thought I had 3 heads. I demonstrated this problem on another car on their lot. They had not explanation except for that I was the only one they know that have very complained. i still have the problem and HATE IT. I wish someone smart will help me solve this issue.

Let me know if you find a solution!

There's at least one other thread on this. Basically, at one point I was convinced that caller ID, which had worked properly under an earlier version of iOS 4.X, had been broken by a later release. I was hoping that iOS 5.X would do the trick, but it didn't. Some of my caller IDs work, others don't. The problem has been reported with other, non-Hyundai vehicles, so it's likely an iOS issue.

I am having the same isssue with my 2011 Tech 4.6. I have an iPhone 4s- all updated however it only downloads ~550 of my 4,000+ contacts (work Outlook put them all there) so it'd be interesting to see if the issue with "unknown" popping up is due to the phone book only downloading some of the address book.

For those who are having trouble downloading their phonebook to the Genesis- do you have over 1,000 contacts in your phone?

After several visits to the dealer and getting nothing more than a blank stare regarding my description of this problem, I recently tried again and they were able to duplicate the problem! They say the solution is a software update for the tech system which Hyundai is allegedly working on, but they weren't able to give me a date for release. Just said they'd let me know when it is ready. So, if they're telling me the truth, it's a Genesis problem, not an iPhone problem. Doesn't seem to be much of a priority for them, though.

I somehow doubt if any dealers know about things like this in advance.
