  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 spotted on the lots!

Just purchased one of the 2012 3.8 genesis this past friday as they were rolling off of the truck. I was actually lookings at the 2011's but they made me a deal I could not pass up.

How good a deal did they make you?

Just wondering if they really gave u a good price on brand new 2012s
if u dont mind letting us know

I could have gotten a 2011 for $28,650 but they had no color combination we liked. We got the 2012 for $29,875 plus tax & title. This dealership is located in S.CA. Most other dealership were offering 500 over invoice. When searching I used the ZAG.com and did the entire thing over the Internet and telephone.

well congrats.. i can't even begin to wonder what else you had going on in that deal as even the lowest price you can get, all holdback and advertising out of the car is still over $30.5k

i hope you feel like sharing the details because that's so low it's incomprehensible

the only way to get that price, in my opinion, is to lose like 10k on a trade in...that's below anything reasonable and well past that.

The details on the purchase are as follows:

2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 (White/Saddle, Stock # 2027H)
MSRP: $35,050
Internet Sales Price $31,375
Competitive Rebate $ 1,500 (Acura TL qualifies)

Price AFTER Rebate $29,875 Plus Tax & License

My trade was a 2007 Acura TL with Navi that had 69,565 miles and in good condition. KBB Trade value was $16,275; Car Max offered me $15,200. The dealer gave me $15,900 which I accepted.

In addition I received .9 percent financing for 48 months.

They originally quoted me $31,375 which I got a local dealer to match and they were going to give me $16,000 on my trade. I actually accepted the offer from the local dealer. Approximately 30 minutes later Glendora Hyundai phoned and told me they found out that the $1,500 competitive rebate was offered on the 2012's as well and that with that the price was $29,875.00. I called the local dealer back and they told me that the price was $500. behind their holdback price and they would not match the price or even come close. They cautioned me to be leary of a bait & switch.

As the dealership was 35 miles away I actually left 45 minutes prior to my wife and daughter, thinking that in all probability they may not honor the quoted price. When I arrived we sat down at the computer they put the numbers in exactly how they quoted it. I called my wife and said come and sign.

We bought no extended warranty (they didn't even try to hard sell it) and their was nothing added to the car as dealer options. They were actually pulling the shipping plastic off the vehicle when I arrived.

I have never purchased a vehicle like this as I am one that actually loves the negotiating game. This was way too easy and actually a pleasant experience.

As stated before I used the ZAG auto pricing under AMEX when searching for th 2011. None of the dealers had the 2012 prices loaded into ZAG as of Saturday.

Hope this helps!!

good job
Enjoy your car.
Thanks for the info, it will help a lot of people.

Has anyone heard or seen any information on the availability of the 4.6 or R spec ?

I questioned Hyundai consumer affairs yesterday and they indicated they had no information on when dealers could expect to see them?

Here in the northeast dealers are just starting to get very few 3.8 cars?

I'd like to get a 4.8 or R spec before going on vacation Aug 6.

I spoke to a lot of dealers in the NE and the best answer I could get is November/December.

You will definitely not have an R-Spec in August, sorry to dissappoint.

One of the reviews indicated they should be arriving at the dealerships in July.

Based on everything I've read I may rethink switching my 09 for a 12. I may just wait to see what happens in 13.

^^^^
Probably wise as I don't want to be an unpaid beta tester for the 8 spd. I'd like to see if its solid for tens of thousands of miles in real world use. I'm sure Hyundai tersted the heck out of it but so did Honda when they inroduced the 5 spd and it was a major real world fail.

might as well wait for the new '14 then. supposedly a complete redesign no?

as for the $29k sale price, great job.

Everyone seems to be concerned about the eight speed transmission and rightfully so but I am concerned with the tilt wheel and check antenna issue that Hyundai has not resolved on the present Genesis.

It will be interesting to read some more reviews on the 8-speed. Thus far we have have one negative review and the rest positive or neutral, correct? Sometimes message boards tend to accentuate the negative. Nice to see that the pricing on the 2012 will be just as competitive as the 2011's. I may end up with a 2012 after all. With the 100K warranty I am not at all worried about the transmission.

I also have a TL but I would just be keeping it. Do you have to trade it in to get the $1,500. Also, how does the Genesis compare to the TL?

I think it depends on what you are looking for. The reviewer who paned the 8-speed is looking for a racing setup (even if they don’t actually race), as are also some people on this forum.

Some people are looking for car with a comfortable ride and good handling, and others would like to completely turn off ESC, etc, so they can smoke their tires and lay two tracks of rubber on the road. With this kind of diversity, you just have read between the lines of each reviewer’s opinion.

^ Here's a review of interest.

The V6 isn’t the only reason the mileage improves. Hyundai also equips all three of the 2012 Genesis models with a new 8-speed automatic transmission it developed in-house. It’s a surprisingly solid gearbox and one that we came to appreciate the more we drove. In fact, we discovered that initially slow and cumbersome shifts became quick and crisp the more time we spent behind the wheel – reflecting, we were later told, the learning algorithm built into the gearbox.

I seem to recall people initally complaining about the laggy shifts in the ZF tranny - which was also programmed to "learn."
