  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2013 Genesis R-Spec...CarPlay add-on

I have a 2012 with a tech package so are you saying it is a touch screen and just turned off in mine (mind blowing lol)?

Would AA work in mine as you noted 2013 so not sure how diff they are.

if its the same as mine, not so much 'turned off' as it is just 'not being used'. the hardware is there - there is a touch controller in the monitor connected directly to CAN bus

Not sure. you need to have the same DIS controller, monitor and head unit as mine. see attached for the back of screen and radio:

Really would rather use that LVDS (or GVIF) you see there at the screen (4 pin) for getting the image in, it would be at a higher resolution and better in direct sunlight - but the downside would be I don't get to see the climate control overlays if we do it that way.

Still about 4-6 months out guys, sorry...its what it is! We have made a single piece of hardware that would work.... if this car had high-speed CAN at the radio, but its low-speed and we need to spin another version with LSFT transceivers for low-speed. So the Genesis project is on the back burner for a single module solution

Heres for you Apple guys:

you can see how it lags a little... this is why we're getting rid of the universal chinese carplay piece and making our own all-in-one unit

Damn that is awesome.

Looks good to me, thank you for blazing a trail. Still following... Evan (949)929-5019 cell/text

That is amazing. Had no idea that the screen had touch screen capability. I have a 2012 3.8 (sedan) with tech package (DIS knob). I have taken many dashboards apart and installed upgraded units. This is a project I would be very interested in attempting and would gladly purchase whatever you develop. Thanks for providing the information and development progress thus far. Will keep following.

I don't believe anyone that has these BH models knows.... I'm likely the only one in existence using it every day now, lol

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!

That's a great solution - Wish it could be done for the 2015-2016 DH w/ 9.2" screen/jog wheel. The head unit will actually run CP/AA with newer software but you get no sound because the amp was changed and it won't turn on the "old" amp....

That's exactly what I have been looking for. Will keep watching this thread and love what you have done so far! Would definitely purchase.

There already exists a completed kit for the newer DH sedans, its out there. Korean or Chinese look at kaptrader.co.kr or alibaba

I'm aware of the KPLAY box... It would be nice to have an North American alternative, as to not be held hostage by the supply chain. Besides, I'd like to put $ in "local pockets", if possible. I'm sure I'm not the only DH owner that feels that way.

I wish everyone felt this way. In my experience, at the end of the day it seems those in the mobile electronics industry just want something that works reliably, has quality and support if ever needed. Regardless of where it comes from.

That said I agree with you. If there was a demand for that (specifically an American-designed module as opposed to Korean/Chinese made one), we'd look into it, but its not on the horizon (as a business, why reinvent the wheel?)

Luckily we deal with 'older' tech, and supply chain for older chipsets isn't an issue like you're seeing with brand new vehicles...

@Silver5.0 , I'd be interested in something like this for my 2010 with the 4.6, but I think mine is without the Tech Package (I don't have that big, extra control knob and buttons, but I have the ~8" screen, and a single CD player, not the multi-CD changer). Any chance you might have something available for that in the future?

Is yours already a touchscreen? the radio that's an all-in-one? if so, I don't know we'll be able to adapt to that one. I'd have to get into it and look at how it works

We are going to adapt this kit for the other version of DIS controller-equipped Genesis sedans however for sure, just need a guinea pig for a day or two once we get there.

Okay, thanks anyway. It was worth a try at least. :)

EDIT: And yeah, mine has a touchscreen already. Am I understanding correctly that the Tech Package screen doesn't have touch capability?

Yes I believe from factory your style radio is the only BH genesis with OE touch control, thus the lack of DIS controller

Its not impossible that we adapt it to work, it depends on whether the screen signal and touch commands are available outside of the screen at all

definitely not out of the box, I know the OE hardware is different on those

I'm pretty sure on the newer systems you can just purchase the OE software update which includes CarPlay/AA.. correct me if I'm wrong
