All, I wanted to ask the group if they have any experience with what I am seeing on my new 2013 Genesis with the Lexicon system. My car came with the iPod cable just as my 2012 Azera did so I figured okay I can hook up my iPhone 5s to the 30 pin Apple adapter and use it the same as before. However on the Genesis neither my iPhone connected to the 30 pin Apple adapter nor my actual iPod cldic will be recognized by the Lexicon system as an iPod. I connect them and AUX is there but not iPod.

Here's the kicker...

If I take the lightning cable that came with my iPhone 5s and connect it to the USB port and then to my iPhone 5s, it works (mostly). I can play and control the iPhone from the system. The only anomaly I get is that I can't use third party apps like Pandora. If I stop the music app and kill it completely then run Pandora, Pandora will play for a few seconds, but then the iPod app will take back over and start playing. I don't understand why..

Any rate I was wondering if anybody else is experiencing this same behavior??

Any ideas??

Thanks...

i havnt tried that yet, i just got mine saturday and was hung over + woke up late sunday so didnt really do much with the media player. i've just been using the bluetooth stream lately. i'll try it out later, i have a 4s and a 3rd gen iPod touch, i'll post up later tonight as i have school :(

EDIT: wait, i don't think i have their iPod cable setup. . . i just have the usb port to plug stuff into. . .

So, I tried the cable and received the media read error.

You received a media read error, however did your iPod show as being seen??

My Set-Up:-
iPod connected with Apple/iPod cable to USB socket in the central
storage unit,,iPhone5 connected via a charger plugged into the power socket within the central storage area.. BT & Streaming work perfectly. Hyundai cable relegated to spares box in garage.......
iPod activates and works with all song info when IPOD activated via Menu/radio unit.. Sadly I have to activate Shuffle after every restart,,

I just traded up from a 2011 tech/premium to a 2013 tech/premium and discovered, much as the others have, that my Hyundai iPod cable does not work. The system sees that something is connected when I plug in my 6th gen iPod Nano, but the system doesn't see it as an iPod. I tried an Apple iPod cable and, much to my surprise, it worked perfectly, including charging, navigating, etc.

Confused, I called Hyundai. What they told me was completely unexpected but a nice surprise... Starting with the 2013 Genesis Sedan (not the Coupe), we can use the Apple cable instead of the Hyundai cable. He even went so far as to suggest it is recommended.

The more I tinker with the 2013, the more I am glad I made the upgrade. So much has been improved from the 2011 it's amazing. Being able to use the Apple cable, see album art, etc. is a big bonus.

My iPod read as being connected briefly and then it disconnected. It is an older model, but then I tried my iPhone and it charged for like 2 seconds and then disconnected. This sucks, but I can deal with it. Just not what you would expect . . .

Wow, this all very very interesting.

1: If I plug in the Hyundai cable the system immediately goes to AUX and it doesn't matter if I have my iPod / (and iPhone 4) plugged in to the 30 pin dock connector or not.

2: If I plug my iPod (or iPhone 4) in to the 30 pin to USB cable that came form apple and then plug that in to the USB port in the car, the car sees the iPod but won't play music out the system (I'm guessing because it does not have anything attached to the phono port (headphone type 3.5mm jack port).

3: If I plug my iPhone 5s in to the lightning cable that came with my phone and plug the USB into the USB port not he car, it works and I can play it and control it. However apps like Pandora (or any third party app) will only play for a few seconds and then the system switches back to the music from the iPod app.

Strange. I found online info that backs up what I discovered. So, why yours doesn't work as designed, I have no idea. Mine only works with the Apple cable, but it works perfectly. Music, album art, navigation, shuffle, etc.

From the Hyundai FAQs:

There are two kinds of cables used in Hyundai vehicles: the white Apple cable (available at the Apple store) and the black Hyundai cable (available at Hyundai dealerships). The type of cable your vehicle is compatible with is determined by your vehicle’s model and model year.

• Accent: Hyundai cable needed.
• Elantra Sedan: Hyundai cable needed for audio and navigation system until September 2012. After September 2012, audio system began to use Apple cable, but the navigation system still used the Hyundai cable.
• Elantra Coupe: Hyundai cable needed for the audio and navigation systems until August 2012. After August 2012, the audio system began to use the Apple cable, but the navigation system still used the Hyundai cable.
• Elantra GT: The audio system uses the Apple cable and the navigation system uses the Hyundai cable.
• Elantra Touring: Hyundai cable needed.
• Veloster: Audio cable needed.
• Sonata: Hyundai cable needed for the audio and navigation systems until 2012. After 2012, the audio system began to use the Apple cable, but the navigation system still used the Hyundai cable.
• Azera: Hyundai cable is needed except for the 2009-2011 navigation system where no cable is available.
• Genesis Sedan: The 2013 with the 3.8 Technology Package or greater needs the Apple cable. All others need the Hyundai cable.
• Genesis Coupe: The Hyundai cable is needed.
• Equus: The Hyundai cable is needed for 2011 through 2013. The Apple cable is needed for 2014.
• Tucson: The Hyundai cable is needed.
• Santa Fe Sport: The Apple cable is needed.
• Santa Fe: The Hyundai cable is needed for the 2009 through 2012. The Apple cable is needed for the 2013.

I already have one Hyundai in our family. I bought my daughter a brand-new 2013 Elantra Limited with Nav (in 2013) and fortunately for her, she uses an iPhone 4S with the old iPhone 30-pin connector and it connects perfectly (displaying the song title, album info, and playing the music through the car's stereo). I hear that it's a little tricky when connecting her Elantra to an iPhone 5s. I personally use an iPhone 5s. I wonder if anyone knows if the new Hyundai Genesis for 2015 will connect smoothly with an iPhone 5s lightening connector. If you have a minute, please see the following video on youtube that shows the problem that Elantra owners have with the current Hyundai 30-pin iPod connector when used with the lightening adapter on a late-model Elantra:

This video basically explains what my fears are when connecting an iPhone 5s to the new Hyundai Genesis.

I hope that Hyundai makes a new iPhone adapter that has been thoroughly tested and already uses a direct lightening connection (no lightening to 30-pin adapter needed), since Apple doesn't use the 30-pin connector anymore on any of their products since last year. The new Genesis has the latest infotainment system. It should hopefully "play nice" with an iPhone 5s or future iPhone models that use the Apple lightening connection. Does anyone know?

I just plugged my iPhone 5s into my 2013 Genesis sedan using the Apple lightning cable that came with the phone and everything works just fine. The car recognizes the iPhone's iPod app and plays music just as I expect it to. I can navigate, pause, etc. Artwork, track info, etc. all works, just like it does when I connect my iPod Nano to the car with the 30-pin Apple cable.

I'm confused why it does't work correctly for others, but my system works just fine as long as I use the appropriate Apple cable for the device I am connecting.

I would agree, my system does work with the Apple Lightning cable (for iPhone 5s). And wight he additional detail provided by "ifonline" I can clearly understand that I shouldn't have purchased the $35.00 Hyundai cable. However where I'm seeing issues is with the 30 pin cable and testing out an older iPhone4 or my Gen 4 iPod. These are both having issues.

I'm also having an issue with Pandora not staying the active audio source. However I expect that this is am iOS issue (software on the iPhone) rather then an issue with the Hyundai head deck.

i guess i'll try the hyundai cable and see if it works.

I still get a check cable error if I plug in my iPhone after the car is running. However it works fine if its plugged in prior to starting the car. Some strangeness going on here.....

Yes the lightning cable works, I think what OP was saying is the exact same thing I'm experiencing. I just bought a new iTouch 5G, the iPhone/Touch will not let other music services such as Spotify & Pandora etc. play via the cable. You can start playing a song and all the information shows up on screen, but within 3-5 seconds it basically force closes it and reverts back to the iTunes music application.

Someone made a work around for it called Spotiplay but it was "broken" with the latest iOS update.

Ah, I see now. I will have to try using another app to see what happens.

On a side note, does your iPod Touch work fine with regards to the iPod app? My iPod Classic is flakey in the Genesis, so I might replace it if the iPod Touch works correctly (not withstanding the Pandora, Spotify, etc. issue).

It works perfectly with the iTunes music app, displays everything correctly on the screen etc. and all buttons on the steering wheel work.

I contacted Apple today and they escalated this matter to their lead technician according to the supervisor that spoke with me. I now have a case# and she is giving me a call back by this Saturday. I'll post more information once I have it.

Yep, that's exactly what happens on the iPhone 5s....
I'll be very very very interested to hear what Apple says.

Interestingly enough (or perhaps not), I was able to listen to iTunes Radio for the duration of my drive to and from work (30 minutes each way) without issue when I connected my iPhone 5s to the car via the Apple cable. Something neat: the iTunes Radio stations I have saved show up as playlists in the car.

I also listened to audio from the YouTube app, but only did so for about a minute before I got bored and closed the app. Based on years of experience with Apple, I expect they are going to tell you that they can't help you with your car.

It's not the car causing the issue, it's Apple's OS...they are forcing it to revert to iTunes/Music application via. the cable. I've tried my iTouch 5G in my cousins S8 and my friends BMW and they do they exact same thing, it starts the App (Spotify etc.) and within seconds is forced back to their music app. If you use it streaming on Bluetooth it works just fine but it should work regardless of how it's connected. They simply shouldn't offer other music service app's if they aren't going to let them work correctly. My callback is tomorrow around 10-11 Pacific Time, I'll let everyone know what they have to say....but your right it's most likely not going to be the answer were looking for.
