  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Went to change the oil today on my 2013, and there is an extra plastic belly pan under the trans. My 2012 did not have this. I had to loosen the pan (2 10mm bolts) to allow the mid section to slide out giving me access to the oil pan and filter. Not sure if anyone has had this or maybe my 2012 was missing this pan since new.

Why in the world are you doing your own oil change?

I do most oil changes on my cars. I then know its done correctly and synthetic oil is used. I'm sure the op feels the same way. As for me, I have a shop in the basement of my house so it makes since and takes less time than going to dealer or indie shop. I also do my own tire rotations, to save time ( I have a compressor and air wrenches so its quick)

I find it fun to do anything on my car no matter how mundane it may appear to someone else.

Geeze- I love my '09 top filter much more now after seeing those pics!

Yeah. Takes all of 5 mins though to remove the shield.

I use a lift, personally.

Would need to in order to drain the oil anyhow...moot point.
Not necessarily. I use this [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-7300-PneumatiVac-Air-Operated-Evacuator/dp/B000JFN9WW/ref=sr_1_5?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1360042583&sr=1-5&keywords=Mityvac"]Oil Extractor[/ame] to suck the oil from the dipstick hole. I use it with a small electric air compressor.

Does it extract all of the oil out of the pan? The dipstick tube would need to basically touch, or be very near, the surface of the oil pan to do so, right?

The dipstick tube itself does not go all the way down, but it opens up into the oil pan, so the oil extractor tube can reach the bottom. Near the end of the extraction, I wiggle the tube around a little to make sure I have reached bottom, and it gets more oil out of crankcase that way than with a drain. Not all cars work the same, but no problem with 2009 Genesis V6. Most BMW and MB cars are designed to remove oil that way.

This is a controversial subject, and many will claim that I am not removing metal shavings, etc, and that I will burn in hell because of this. But that is the job of the oil filter IMO, and anyway the suction I use is with a air compressor and is capable of pulling small metal shavings out of the crankcase.

Any small metal shavings will collect on the magnet in the drain plug. But you can't tell that because you don't remove it.

It's getting really hot in here. No mas pantalones.

I do not belive the Genesis' oil plug is magnetized.

You are ruining his fantasy. I bet you don't believe in Santa Claus either?

I do most of my minor maintenance myself like Homeofstone and Philth because I like working on my vehicles.:)

I have a lift in my garage that allows me to do my own oil changes, tire rotations, brakes and minor maintenance with ease. I have replaced the drain plug with a Fumoto Valve also called a Quickie valve to drain the oil.

The hydraulic lift also makes detailing the car a snap since the car can be positioned to wherever it is most convenient to work on.

The lift has a maximum lifting range of 54 ½ “ (4’ 4”) and since my garage has 13’ ceilings I can bring the car up to the full height which is 5’ off the floor because the swing arm pads add about 7” to the total height of the lift, which make it easy to work under the car.
