If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis pic

Give us a break. What did the '57 Chevy have in common with the
'58? What did the '57 T-Bird have in common with the '58? We could go on and on.

For those cars --- NOTHING! But in prestige cars like BMW and Mercedes an evolving style is what helps those models retain their desirability. You obviously don't seem to understand that concept at all by referencing "57 to '58 Chevrolets.

If Hyundai is attempting to create a Genesis "brand" they need to have models that are instantly recognized as a Genesis. The total change in direction from the first to the second generation does nothing to create a brand.

And that is why a Chevy has always been a Chevy. Get's you from point A to point B.

It's not a Corvette.

Price and value is Hyundai's desirability. We'll have to see how the 2nd generation is priced.

From the rendering grille does look little strange but I liked how it looked on the spy shots. I didn't care for the interior shown in spy shot but curious if anything has changed.

In other words, you'd prefer to keep the Mercedes style grill that you have on your car on the 2015 model?

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree with it. There is no sacrosanct styling on the first generation Genesis. I'll miss the current grill, but it's time for a change.

They needed to step back and do something with more individual character before they could start doing minor, evolutionary revisions imo. If it looks as good in metal as it does in the official render then I think they've accomplished something that they could do that with going forward.

My only gripe with the render is that it confirms the wraparound tail lights. (That and I want an interior shot)

Well, if the Grill is as Ugly in those in the pictures, I will be getting another Custom Grill ASAP. Here is my 2011 Genesis, and Custom Grill. And the 2011 Standard Grill was not near as offensive as this new looks to be.

I GUARANTEE YOU the price is going up several thousands of dollars. The V8 will top out over $50 grand for sure.

Mark my words.

From generation to generation there is never a question of a BMW or a Mercedes. There is a certain "style" that evolves over generations. Now Hyundai appears to have abandoned the look of the first generation Genesis, the car that was a Conquest sale to each and every one here, and replaces it with a totally new style direction.

This is no way to develop a brand loyalty.

The W212 E Class is quite the departure from the W211 and yet is the best selling E Class ever for MB.

And while the W211 and 210 were similar, the 210 was a departure from the W124.

And Mercedes has increasingly move away from using its signature grill with the center divider, using the grill with a single or dual horizontal slats with a centered MB tri-star.

And Mercedes' current design language is a bit reminiscent of the organic fluidic sculpture design language that Hyundai is leaving behind.

The problem isn't the change, but the lack of any distinguishing element in the design of the new Genesis (for the current Genesis, the most distinguishing characteristics would be the Klingon/waterfall grill treatment and the frosted S-shaped LEDs.

Agreed.

The thing is that even if Hyundai bests the Germans in handling (or even just come close enough), the thing that would get buyers to consider a Hyundai luxury (aside from better pricing) would be superior styling/sheetmetal.

That's the reason why the Optima has become a huge success for Kia and why they are offering a $37k SX-L trim.

Same thing applies to the Sonata (altho not to the extent of the Optima as there is no luxury trim for the Sonata) - the next gen will retain the roofline/greenhouse but tone down some of the more busy elements of the design.

what will make people or perspective customers / buyers buy this car? looks? performance? for me, it's about performance. if Hyundai fails to build a real rspec class that is truly on a sport level- hence the reason for calling a car an rspec- then i could care less about the new looks or new generation, i won't buy it. give me more horsepower, a sports mode transmission option w/ firm and very quick shifting, 0-60 numbers in the mid to low 4's, and a select suspension between soft and firm. then you're talking.

...im glad you like that. The dorky satin silver/chome plastic hood piece ruins that (even more than the chintzy bolt on mesh does to start with)

and then I walk in grinning and get my Hyundai Circle price the day it comes out...:p
And I walk in grinning and buy a 3 month old "used" one with 500 miles for 20k. Gotta love hyundai resale

Well.... I have to say, I did use my Hyundai Circle discount to buy my '12 R Spec... and I believe I still have a "Trade In Value Guarantee" that is valid and binding...
