2015 Genesis Sedan shakes/wobbles

My car is RWD and its not the tires. I spoke to someone at Hyundai and this is happening with other Hyundai vehicles and it has been traced to the sub frame and relates to the shake we are feeling. It just so happens that the Genesis is new this year and it is more severe than other models. And since it is the sub frame it is not an easy or quick fix. I have no way of verifying the truth or accuracy of what I was told but the explanation seem plausable to me. I guess we just wait and see (and shake along the way). When I go in for my ac vent repair this or next week I'm going to mention the shake, even with the new michelin tires. Maybe if enough of us complain Hyundai will dig into this more and make a substancial fix.

I am starting to think that the Michelin Tires that are being used for this 'tire swap' are not the AAA grade that we expect from Monsieur Michelin. These tires were the OEM fitment on my 2012 Genesis (albeit RWD & different size) and I never had any vibration problems. Since changing the original Hankooks to Michelin I have a highway speed vibration that two wheel balances have failed to cure. I also still have the low-speed vibration after the car sits for a few hours, although this goes away after 10 minutes driving. Certainly no better than the Hankooks in this regard. I'm very disappointed with this change.

I like the way you made your car details bold in your sig and I copied it. It really helps find what options are on the various vehicles that are mentioned. Thanx for the idea - I hope others will follow.

I also agree with ckon...like the way comp1 has his signature. I updated mine. I'm more and more convinced that this problem is not the tires as does comp1...even though some of us are not happy with the switch out to Michelin. Only because it's so intermittent. Something is kicking in and out in the drive train, axle, etc. A bad switch, solenoid, sensor, etc. So many electronics to diagnose. Hopefully Hyundai will find the cause. I too experienced the flat spotting on my Hankooks..but it went away in a few miles. Michelins are doing the same but not as severe on mine. I'm getting use to a little vibration after the car sits a while...but gone in a few miles.

If there is a subframe issue, I doubt it is related to the vibration problems we are experiencing, unless for some obscure reason the Michelin tires aggravate the condition. Before the tire swap from the OE Hankooks, the only issue was a slight low/mid-speed vibration after the car had been sitting a while. As everybody else has reported, this went away after about 10 minutes driving. The Michelins are no better in this regard and I now have a highway speed vibration that wasn't there before. It also seems that the AWD cars are more prone to this problem.

I have forwarded this conversation to Hyundai Customer Affairs. I doubt that it's news to them, but it's like chicken soup - it can't hurt.

I experienced something similar (I think) on a recent couple of drives. Both times it was quite windy so I thought it may have been due to that.

It felt almost as if the back end of the car was losing grip. It felt very wobbly, enough so that it was a somewhat alarming sensation.

Is that what those of you with this problem are experiencing too?

I'm waiting for dealer appt to handle 2 recalls and they will check out further. I've narrowed to rear of car ....rear end, traction control, ???. I did experience a rotating noise from under the rear when backing out of my garage with my Genesis a few times. Very subtle. Also like gears not meshing properly. I'll give update after my service.

I'm convinced that, at least on mine, it's not a tire problem.

I took the car to Discount Tire and the tech discovered that all four of my rims are bent in various amounts - two very slightly and two somewhat worse. I think that's evidence of under-specced rims on this weight car. I don't know why nobody discovered it before after all of the tire changes the dealers have done! The rims don't seem to be the cause of the vibration because the "morning vibration" goes away after a couple of miles and the highway ride is still smooth.

I have a far-out theory that on my car it's involved with the front half-shaft splines and CV joints after the car sits and cools. Lube? Stiction? I have a friend who's an engineer with contacts at Magna. I told him my theory and he thinks it's feasible and is going to get in touch with Magna to pass it on. Magna makes the AWD and they may make more of the AWD pieces.

Hyundai is compensating me fairly and still trying to figure it out.

PS: IMO, everyone with this "flat-spotting" problem, especially on HTRACs, should drop a note to David Zuchowski at HMA, dzuchowski@hmausa.com . We need to let them know we're having a problem out here that's affecting more than just one or two cars.

Unfortunately I think we are first year Guinea Pigs. Tires don't do this alone. Its got to be a combination on tires, rims, sub frame or something else related to chassis. I'm sure they are working on a solution but that solution will be implemented on future cars. Can only hope for a retrofit. It's very aggravating to say the least.

They've provided a loaner. They've also stated they will compensate me for time out of service, but I won't know what or when until the repair is completed and I have no reason to believe it won't be fair.

I'm reluctant to blame the sub-frame or other non-dynamic parts because the problem goes away. IMO, sub-frame issues wouldn't make sense under that condition. In addition to that, this is the most solid car I've ever driven so thinking there's something sub-par in the chassis assembly seems unlikely.

Went to dealer yesterday to have 2 recalls done. I printed out our thread for the service manager to get up to speed on what other owners are experiencing. He feels that it's not a tire issue as it would be a consistent problem. My issue with the car shaking is very intermittent. We talked about a possible issue with the traction control (mine is AWD). I described how the last time it happened I was exiting a gas station and the right rear wheel went over a pot hole where the parking lot met the highway. Could be a connection. In any event they will continue to research and try to get to the bottom of problem. Car always performs great during their road tests. I really feel it's coming from the rear end somewhere.

Going back to the local dealer again next week for the shop forman to drive the car. They feel that they can't do much to help unless they can replicate the problem. That will require me to leave the car overnight. At this point I just want to hear them acknowledge that this is a defect rather than a characteristic of the car. Fingers crossed.

The car went home with me after the work but it vibrated exactly the same the next morning after sitting over night. This is NOT a tire problem and Hyundai still hasn't confirmed that I have a defective car. Things are really going down hill and I don't think Hyundai has a clue what is going on. People gave me a lot of grief when I bought the Genesis and I guess they will turn out to be right. What a mistake!

The car went home with me after the work but it vibrated exactly the same the next morning after sitting over night. This is NOT a tire problem and Hyundai still hasn't confirmed that I have a defective car. Things are really going down hill and I don't think Hyundai has a clue what is going on. If you don't have the stomach for it, don't be an early adopter. Take the loss and trade it for a yuppie mobile.

The first Gen had an issue with limited travel of the rear end that would bottom out. That was named "Car of the Year". It was sorted out.

Hyundai is wanting to break into the luxury market. They wanted to blame the tires, but it does seem to be deeper. That is one reason why I bought the extended warranty. Even without the extended warranty, When you look at how Hyundai redesigned the second generation with driving dynamics in mind shows that they are committed to moving forward.

I think that Hyundai is an up and comer. I don't give a cr*p about what other people say because I bought the car for me. It is the first year of a total redesign, am I surprised that there are a few warts, no.

Edit to add: I also walked into the deal realizing I wasn't going to get 5-star dealership service experience. Think of a commodity item.

I suppose I should have said that several people teased me since I had been driving German cars for many years. Believe it or not, the vast majority of folks still believe that a Hyundai is a cheap low quality vehicle. That is why most of the Genesis buyers remove the trunk badge and replace it with the Genesis wings.
