  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All,

I made a posting in the "Price paid for Genesis" thread but did not receive a response. Again, wasn't sure if it was the right place to make an initial post, into.

Regardless, as the title mentions, I'm looking for the 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 L AWD

Montecito Blue
Gray Interior
Ultimate Package
Location: OH/MI

Found deals up in PA & MA and wanted to get an idea on how to approach Out-of-State purchases for a vehicle such as this one. The pricing that I've come across is between 46-47K before TTL or any Manufacturer Rebates.

A) Are these the lowest one can expect without Hyundai Circle Pricing ?
B) Any red-flags I should look out for, should I choose to go, with an out-of state purchase?
C) I have worked with a dealer in OH and he says that they could do trade-in's with other dealers? Is that a feasible route?

Please let me know when you get a chance.
Sincerely appreciate any/all assistance.

Thanks & Regards,

Although mine was not an out of state purchase, it was a dealer trade. I located my car in Miami and worked the deal with my local dealer. Because I didn't want miles put on my car, we agreed upon splitting the cost for the car swap on a flatbed truck. They paid $200 and I paid $200.

It was worth the wait for locating the exact car color combo I wanted.

I was wondering the same. My only concern is that the price of a similar combination in the dealers around me is higher than that of the cars found out of state.

Personally, I would like to not have any miles driven on my car either, and am considering going this route. I may go visit a few dealers today. Will post back with any updates.

Thanks again.

I have had some friends who purchase cars in other states in the past. They were the deal over the internet and get an independent shipping company to ship the car to them. Cost would depend on how far they are away. The reason mine was $400 ($200 for me and $200 for my dealer) was because they had to trade a car from their lot so they paid the cost to ship it down there. Keep us posted.

Thanks for your feedback.

I went to one of the local dealers around here with the idea of having them price match. They broke-down the pricing as follows (for any-body who maybe interested)

Selling Price : 47009
Gov. Fee: 47
Proc/Doc Fee: 210
Total Taxes: 2894.58

Said he would write me a check to match difference between his Selling Price and that of the Car I had found in PA (46,782) --> Difference of $227
He was pushing me to drive-off with the Same Spec'd Vehicle (3.8L AWD w Ultimate) but Casablanca White/Gray Interior

I refused and said I wanted the Montecito Blue/Gray and told him to see if he wanted to Flat-Bed it for me from PA. He said for a cost of $1500, he would pay Half (I'm guessing he just came up with it on the spot to make some additional money..I could be wrong though) but then again it shouldn't cost 1500 total to Flat-bed it from PA to MA.

I then said to Price me on the HPP Platinum Extended Warranty and he gave me the following options:

10 Yr/ 120K Miles ... USD 2000
10 Yr/ 100K Miles ... USD 1750
7 Yr / 100K Miles ... USD 1550

The above numbers match up the Pricing on their website with a Promo Code you can use.. It was off the Hyundai Page itself.

Just wanted to share with everybody out there, who is around the OH/MI area to see if they were interested.

Also, please let me know if this is/was a good deal. He kept insisting it's the last day (I went to the dealer on June 1st) as the Quarter was ending and the Deal was only-in effect for that day. I was genuinely late for a meeting because they kept dragging it to get me to give my go-ahead but I did not and walked out and just received a generic email from the Sales guy with the customary "Thanks".

Couldn't give the go-ahead just then without double checking to make sure it all matched up.

Thoughts? Questions? Let me know eitherways.

Thanks & Regards,
Mak

He kept insisting it's the last day (I went to the dealer on June 1st) as the Quarter was ending and the Deal was only-in effect for that day.

He was correct as the incentives in place did expire June 1. Not sure how they will change - possible also that residual went down for leases.

I paid $1774 for my 10/100k Hyundai Platinum so your pricing is in the ball park. Regarding your shipping cost, you can go online and get prices from shipping company's to see if the $1500 is reasonable or not.

Thanks and my sincerest apologies for being inactive on this posting.

I received a fresh selling price from a dealer in OH and the bottom line pricing he's offering is 47012 + TTL (3.8L AWD Ultimate Montecito Blue/Ivory)

I hope to work through the numbers and strike a deal with him. My only concern is if I were to drive the car back to MI, where I reside due to work, how would a maintenance plan (oil changes/tire rotation) be honored? Would it be as simple as walking in a dealer and just dropping off my car as I would normally? Do Hyundai dealers typically give out loaners (I do know that it's dealer specific usually, but generally speaking..is this a norm?)

Would love to hear all of your feedback.

Thanks,
Mak

Maybe my buying experience will help you.

I bought my car out-of-state. I live in VA and bought in Md.

I located the car with cars.com. They had it in MD.

I priced the car with truecar.com and edmunds.com. Also Kbb.com

After locating the dealer in MD that had the car I wanted, we negotiated a tentative price by email. When I showed up, I looked at similar cars, negotiated my trade-in value., and bought the car.

Problems: Generally minor - I was pressured to buy "service warranties". When I declined, the woman doing the paperwork got very angry - obviously losing her commission. Also, VA DMV mailed the plates to the MD dealer and the dealer was many weeks getting them back to me. I was also pressured to give a credit card number for Hyundai "Link" , Sirius Xm, or some such - I don't give out credit cards - end of story. One other problem - watch out for "Manager cars" - these are used cars/demos, pure and simple.

Two points:

1. I don't buy "service warranties" on any product. See Edmunds.com for more info. Hyundai's come with good warranties. And, I do my own maintenance, although, I must say, the Genesis 5.0 looks a little challenging.

2. I negotiate MSRP discount in a summary fashion - all dealers nowadays play a little game - offering incremental discounts for "customer loyalty", senior discount, military discount, blah blah blah. I don't play that game - no way.

One exception to Rule #2 - they threw in $1000 additional discount because I owned a Sonata - I had to prove it with a car title which I brought with me.

I brought the car home on February 6 - date of purchase - no problems since - but two recalls for tires/tail light fix - no problem there, either.

Best car I ever owned.

Also: Your price looks good - why not go for the V8, though - really nice car to drive.

P.s. one small item: I was doing a credit check on myself (free at annualcreditreport.com) a few weeks ago, and noticed some outfit in CA ran a credit check on me on Feb. 6, the date of purchase of my new car. I paid cash for the car - maybe they didn't trust the check - go figure.

Also, I don't think Hyundai dealers are known for handing out loaners - maybe buy a Mercedes at one of those plush dealerships?

You can take your car to any dealer for warranty work. Regarding Maintenance plans, you need to ask the dealer if this is a plan that can only be used at their facility or is it a plan associated with Hyundai that can be used anywhere (if one exists). I have only heard of maintenance plans that are dealer specific. If you don't get the maintenance plan you can surely buy a car from one state, then take it to your local dealer for all your service work. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for all your responses.

I'm in the process of finalizing everything and hope to wrap this up in less than a week. Thought about this quite extensively and now it's time to just make my decision.

Regarding the 5.0, since it only comes in RWD in the US, that is not very feasible to the harsh MI winter. I know and am sure other places have harsh winters too but I do not want to take a chance. Although, in terms of owning a 5.0, I would love to at some point in the future. Really hoping Hyundai comes through with an AWD version for the US just like they do Canada.

Thanks anyways and look forward to sharing pictures, once I take the plunge!

Mak
